Sony could be stopping/changing the PC port strategy?

Spider-Man 2 is set to release on PC in only 3 days, but:

- pre orders not available.
- no marketing besides of the initial trailer (from october);
- nothing about system requirements;
- the Steam page for the game was disable in some regions (Japan).

To be clear, I think Spider-Man 2 will be coming to PC, but it's strange that Sony is not giving a fuck about it.

Spider-Man 2 has been available on PC for like what, half a year now?

Remember the huge leaks? Modders got the game up and running and even patched it to make it
highly playable.

This is most likely the reason why Insomniac/Sony are barely advertising it. They're just gonna drop
the game.
I think the leak may accelerated the port, but anyway there's no reason to launch a game with 0 marketing. There's a lot of people who don't even know about this leak.

Not that strange, I don’t think PC players give a fuck about it either. I got a free digital copy I haven’t even bothered to install on my Pro because I don’t give a fuck about it.

the existence of the leak shows insomniac was developing the pc port alongside ps5 development. this explains the quicker turnout. this is a very healthy development, which all PS teams should be working toward.

As just an armchair game enthusiast, I wish they'd change their strategy for PC ports to porting older games and collections that would do better in the PC marketplace.

Gravity Rush 1+2
Tokyo Jungle
Demon's Souls Remake
Bloodborne
Motorstorm collection
Ico trilogy
etc.

I don't think they'd be millions-sellers, but it would probably do a lot better than most of the stuff they've put on PC lately.

I believe Sony’s strategy of releasing games on PC after they have had a PlayStation console exclusive window is the best of both worlds. I hope they do not change that strategy.

Yeah, I'm not buying this argument that they'll pull back on porting games to PC. This one might be delayed, but I don't think it's an indication of a change in their strategy.

Man I visit the site daily and I didn't know it was coming this soon.

I don't think Sony will stop the PC ports. Clearly all they think of is short term profit even if it damages the PlayStation brand in the long run ( or at least it's what I believe is what killed the Xbox , it's happening again on the PlayStation but at a slower pace due to the fact they are not being released day one on PC. I just think if this continues, many will question the reason to own the console if all games are coming to PC anyway).

I just think Sony is trying to save so much money on marketing. Which is super strange because the first game did very well for them on PC.

The reason to launch it with zero marketing is because Square wasted a ton of money on advertising for FF7R only for it to have less CCUs than a 2D remake of dragon quest

Dead money, pc players don’t buy these SP games

I hope sony stops pc porting its unacceptable
Sony CEO:
In the past, we wanted to popularize console... but there is a synergy to it. So if you have strong first-party content, not only with our console but also other platforms like computers, first-party can be grown with multi platforms

PC ports are building Playstation's first party publishing strength. Playstation would be doing worse without them.

PCMR don't give a flying fuck, the hype for First Party Sony Games keeps winding down and tbh, the game is crap compared to the first, so yeah, they'll care even less for an inferior product no matter the platform of choice

If they were about the survivability of their platform they would buy with Herman and company, I doubt they stop it. Slow it down a bit..... maybe.

PC gamers have higher standards.

Looking at the top list of pc games all being GaaS slop, nope.

Pc gamers enjoy their gaming induced GaaS diabetes

Hermen is not going to stop PC ports....if anything the next thing he will do is release them day one.
At this point, I don't know if Herman have a power to take big decisions inside of Sony. After Concord, I think his decisions can be considering very questionable (by Sony execs).

He was even asked about the porting to PC thing at a shareholders meeting last year and what he said was something like: "Our objective is entice people to buy a PS5". Considering this is not happening, and after all the Concord shitstorm, maybe Sony is being more cautious with Herman's decisions.

I still need to rebuy Horizon Zero Dawn for the PC, Waiting for Uncharted 1-3 then buying all 4. Future tools Ratchet years. And the Astrobots if you would please.
20 bucks each thats over 10 games or $200 bucks to be spent on my PC.

If Sony is smart, they will return to exclusivity again.
With Xbox gone, it'll be much more important.
Well, Xbox isn’t gone, yet.

Next, depending on the costs/profits of the ps5 hardware, it may make more sense to reduce the numbers of exclusives and to maximize returns.

Guess we will see

hi, spider man 2 is the quickest turnaround from ps5 exclusivity to pc yet.

every indication from playstation is toward more aggressive pc support. here's the latest from a november 2024 shareholder meeting:

Question:
You seem to have a lot of PS5 exclusives in your lineup of third-party software
titles for the second half. Is that intended to encourage the transition from PS4 to PS5? I think that
there is a risk of more users opting for PCs
. What do you think about the risk and opportunity?

Answer:
In terms of losing users to PCs, we have neither confirmed that
any such trend is underway, nor do we see it as a major risk
, so far.

Jrpg's are generally not huge on Steam.

Final Fantasy has squandered a lot of good will and interest over the years

I believe someone already informed you of these reasons in the FF7 thread but alas

Indeed, yet.
It's already done though. MS is just dragging out the situation.

Sony's ultimate goal is to get people onto Playstation.
As Layden stated, if people aren't coming to Playstation, they have to go out and get them in different ways.

It's not like PC ports are doing crazy numbers.
They're an easy way to get some extra profits and have people slowly build their PS library outside of the consoles.
Preferably buying Playstations to play sequels.
