SAN DIEGO: Sony is about to launch a new device aimed at people who use a lot of instant messaging service. The new device named Mylo is a combination of wireless broadband and entertainment applications that would find ready buyers among university students and people who use Wi-Fi at home.

Users who want to expand the storage cap can use Sony's 4GB Memory Stick costing $170, now in the market.

Although Mylo looks similar to Sony's PSP the target market is completely different. People who do their networking and socializing with instant messaging are expected to find the device very useful. The handheld device has a slide-out keyboard for thumbnail typing.

Students are certain to find the gadget easily fitting in with their lifestyle. Wi-Fi wireless networks, which the gadget operates on, are fast becoming a common feature on college campuses, high streets and busy public places.

The name Mylo has been borrowed from an earlier effort by Sony – the Clei range of devices in which Mylo was the last product. The range was pulled off the market.

The product will bear a price tag of $350 and can be purchased from Sony's retail stores, authorized dealers or online.

Sony, why are you pursuing the high-end electronics market?? You were successful because of your penetration into normal households! (Walkman, Playstation brands)
Avoid the euro-style electronics strategy, please.
