Not the same, but I have a pair of the 1000xm4 that I use for several hours a day while working. They are the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever owned. I don't care too much about the noise canceling functionality as I listen to ambient soundscapes when I want to block out the world. But as a balance between comfort, battery power, sound quality, having a nice case, cost, etc. I think they're fantastic.

From what I've seen of reviews, these look like they keep all the features of the xm4, but make the noise canceling better. Unfortunately the MSRP is now $450. Hopefully they'll be on sale regularly like the previous generations.

I found the XM4 to be uncomfortable to wear after 1hr, the headband was a bit too rough for me. The issue got fixed with the XM5 but I swear that the XM4 sound better. Also, there's lots of reports of broken hinges for XM5s lately, I hope they fixed that for the XM6, cause the look the same.

I loved the 3's, loved the 4's, the 5's were a flop with the design updates/changes...but the price on the 6's stings. Sure you get a nifty new case without a zipper and the headphones can rotate/bend at the cup joints...but daym close to $500 bones for features they are just brining back (the case is nice Ill give them that...but not $150 nice).

Gents, I was interested in these until I read reviews/opinions of both the XM4s and XM5s about broken hinges - seriously, WHAT THE F*UCK, this has been an ongoing issue for YEARS now with everything Sony (headset/headphones) related, the Golds and the Platinums always snapped either at the headband part or the hinges, the newer Pulse and Elite models same thing and apparently, their 400+ (plastic) headphones share the same "feature" ? At this point, I'm willing to say that it's planned obsolescence 'cause I really can't think about anything else.

Frigging shameful that expensive products such as these are "designed" (wink*wink) in such a way for crying out loud...

Meanwhile, my El cheapo 90 Eurodollars Cloud Alphas are still going strong 4 years on due to them being built like a tank (both the headband and hinges are made from aluminum).

I don't get it, personally, after reading about it, I won't go nowhere near them, shame, since the XM4's can be found for 200 nowadays.

I've traveled everywhere with mine for years, caseless, and there's no issue with build quality. They're a super popular product so things are bound to happen to some people. Could always buy an extended warranty w/ accident protection if it worries you, Sony offers them.

Tyler, I'm always careful with my stuff brother, it's just that, when you keep reading and seeing proof of specific products malfunctioning/breaking at the same exact spot for years now, well, it can't always be the user's fault, or just a bad batch can it ?

As an example, and I kid you not, almost everytime that I visit the Sony PS subreddit, there's 1-2 posts about Pulse or Elites breaking at the same exact spot, and this is multiple times per week...

After encountering the same exact thing after only 3 weeks with a pair of MDR's whatever (can't remember the exact model), let's just say that I'm soured on anything Sony related (minus their consoles), they create some beautiful stuff/products but man, the QC just isn't there anymore - a FAR cry from the Sony of yore (80's/90's) where Sony was synonymous with quality.

I'm sure that the XM series is jolly good but...there's about a myriad of companies out there that produce good wireless headphones that probably won't break that easily/are more robustly built, 'cause 400+ Eurodollars it's not exactly a small sum for such a commodity.

Cheers

I still have the XM5, works perfectly great after 2 years so I won't buy them.

I'm more interest in the Xperia 1 VII announced the same day

Great phone. But you can get similar great phones for almost half the price. No wonder Sony is utterly niche in the phone market.

Honestly I tried a lot of them, none is as appealing as the Sony one. Maybe LG or HTC but they stopped making phones unfortunately.

And I'm still using the headphone jack. And I hate phones with holes in the screen or notches. And I like notification LEDs

And I always find funny that the other manufacturers (Samsung, all the chinese ones) copy Apple when they change things but Apple itself gets inspiration from Sony phones

I get the preference, but €1500 is insane when the Oneplus 13 is available for around €849 and Samsung S25 Ultra is €999. If the Sony phone was actually priced competitively I think a lot more people would be interested, but that price premium is excessive.

When One Plus got bought by the company that makes all the other chinese phones (Oppo, Vivo, Realme) it became as bland as the other ones, and as uninspired as they can be, looking all the same, killing the smartphone industry by flooding the market with always the same products since 2017-2018. And they "killed" all the ones making original phones, such as LG, HTC, Motorola, and Sony. Nowadays a new phone doesn't give excitment to anybody.

I probably won't buy it right away, will wait for the price to drop, or even look to the previous model, but my Xperia 1 III lasted long enough, and now it's time for a retirement (biggest complaint being of course the battery, after several years).

The original phone market died because consumers don't actually want them. So a safe, by the numbers phone it is. Even the Xperia is the same, other than the headphone jack, it's the same boring phone that everyone basically releases. I'd be interested in one myself, as I like Sony products, but not at that price premium. I own a Bravia 9 85 and the xm4s (as they are quality products with better performance and features vs the competition that validate the price premium), but I just don't get that same "worth it" feeling from the Xperia to justify it.

I have a red magic 10 pro. It's got a headphone jack, an under-screen camera that you can only see when it's working, 144hz screen, apparently really good for games, and rgb that you can use for notifications on the back. They're less than £600.

Same as any other chinese phone, really not my cup of tea.

I understand your point. I got my Xperia 1 III at EUR 600 so I'm not too keen on paying 1500 for a phone either, regardless of the brand

600 yes, 1500 is an auto no-go for all the reasons both you and zathalus have already mentioned

What I'm trying to say is that you're both tight 😉

I have the XM4 but I'm finding Sony's noise canceling technology very unpleasant. It feels like it puts pressure to the ears, I can't use it for longer periods. It's hard to explain.

Switched to Airpods Max for deskwork and using Airpods Pro for moment-to-moment and for me Apple's noise canceling is vastly superior.

I've been using the WH-XB910 for about 3 years now. The noise cancelling on it is pretty damn impressive so gonna give this one a try. My only complaint is the cheap ass material on the cushions. That stuff floated off into the heavens a while ago.

I'm a glasses wearer and so far the only headset I've ever found comfortable was this style:

Any larger than this and I can't wear with my glasses because it hurts 😞

I had some grado on-ear headphones like that and they pushed my ears against the arms of my glasses, couldn't wear them for more than an hour without extreme discomfort. I now have a pair of audioquest over ear and can wear them for as long as I want without a problem.

Seems like an unbiased review
(he also mentions the hinges)

Personally, for 450, I think that the all-plastic build is generally unacceptable, there should always be some metal at the stress points (hinges usually).

Definition of wasteful spending. This costs 450€, I have Sony ones for 80€, they are perfect.

Says the man who wanks over Steinway.

Anyway, I've had cheaper Sony headphones before. I had a pair that came with an Xpiera phone. They were okay, but not compared to the XM series.

The difference is I don't buy Steinway.

Yes, my headphones are not comparable to these. Are they 5x-6x better. Not even close.
