Depends on the games, nobody is paying $599 for the kind of graphics we've seen thus far. Granted we haven't seen much, but I can't shake the feeling that Microsoft and Sony are rushing this one. Yeah I know about how long a generation lasts and I'm not a huge hardware guy (being a Nintendo fan and shit), but this doesn't feel as tight as it did in the days leading up to the PS4/XBone.

Final hardware specs are still unknown outside of Sony, and its not Sony making these estimates. So although these analysts can accurately arrive at a figure based on current pricings for a certain bill of goods, the accuracy of that bill of goods is questionable.
Which leads on to another pertinent observation: The only reason this is "news" is because it relates to investment speculation about Sony's profitability a couple of quarters hence. The reason why similar pieces have not shown up about Xbox is that the performance of Xbox hardware is a drop in the bucket of MS earnings generally, and thus of minimal relevance to market analysts and nothing to do with their same susceptibility to component procurement issues.

Ok... I haven't seen any discussion of this here (apologies if I missed it) but can we talk about this quote from the Bloomberg article ? "Sony’s Chief Executive Officer Kenichiro Yoshida has said the business should be judged by the number of active users, not the number of hardware units sold." This is seemingly pointing to a massive shift in the strategy from Sony (and a dagger to the heart of hardware counting console warriors).

Sony already has good word of mouth. In fact, they'd have to fuck up famously to ruin it. But people are expecting some solid PS5 talk or something concerning their next gen plans. Even with the list of games you named off here, they could still get away with releasing solid PS5 details. People are gonna buy those games regardless.

And it nearly tanked the company for good.... were it not for them selling tons of HDTVs as people swapped out their old CRTs at the same time they might not exist anymore. They also had to radically re-engineer the system to cut costs and drop the price.
2006-2008 were by no means good times for Sony.

Sony has the luxury off being able to talk about PS5 and still sell gang busters on their upcoming slew of games for the current gen. Each one of the games you mentioned are gonna sell gangbusters -- no doubt about it, even if they talk about PS5 now. It won't harm sells on the PS4.
Microsoft, not so much. They want this gen over as its a wrap. Notice Series X is where their investing all their time and conversation because this gen belonged to Sony hands down. Xbox still has a few bangers up their sleeve for this gen but they arent gonna be behemoths in comparison to Sony's upcoming line up. But when speaking on next gen hardware, software and services for next gen, they're very confident. And they should be!
