Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Today's holy shit moment was looking at Mark Healey's game credits and then cross-referencing this Giant Bomb piece.

I knew he worked at Lionhead and Bullfrog in some capacity, but Fun School 4: 5-7 and 7-11 are two of the earliest Amiga games I played!

First Big Break

At the age of nineteen, Healey was broke and met a girl whose boyfriend was working for Codemasters. After showing him some demos he had made, he was contracted to make a game for the Commodore 64, which took six months to make and became his first published title, KGB Super Spy. He was paid £2000, which he gave to his mother for rent. This lead onto the development of the educational Fun School series for Europress Software.

Peter Molyneux

A few years later he met Peter Molyneux and the pair went on to forge a professional relationship which lasted ten years. Healey says he has learnt a lot from Molyneux, and always thought of himself as working with him rather than for him, describing his greatest skill as propagating creativity within the team by letting everyone have their own input.
Bullfrog and Lionhead

Joining Bullfrog Productions early within its inception, Healey worked on titles including Theme Park, Magic Carpet and Dungeon Keeper, for which he was responsible 90% of the graphics, as well as all the character designs. The Horned Reaper (affectionately referred to as 'Horny') is based on one of his ex-girlfriends. Being a fan of slapstick humor in games, he also came up with the minion slapping mechanic, which later led to the gestures in Black & White.

When Bullfrog became overly corporate and Molyneux left to found Lionhead Studios in 1997, Healey followed and was the first artist at the company. He soon became a senior artist and designer on Black & White, which won a BAFTA for interactivity, and did some late-production work on Fable whilst independantly working on Rag Doll Kung-Fu, an extracurricular project in his spare time.

Early prediction for "Best Demo for E3" :
Spider-Man

Take that to the bank folks.

From what we already know about I'm probably most excited to see Spider-Man. I hope they show a substantial gameplay demo (say at least 6 minutes) with lots of traversal, fighting and maybe tease a villain at the end.

I also want to see more of Days Gone and I'm hoping it proves strong enough to satisfy the majority of the naysayers. Something like a 8-10 minute gameplay trailer showing motorbike riding, the use of traps/environmental physics to defeat enemies and showing either Deacon hunting a target or taking on an enemy base using interesting systems aside from just shooting.

I'm already 100% on board for God of War but I'll take whatever they're prepared to give. I'm kind of expecting it to get a trailer instead this time, but it would also be cool if they show a more action-packed sequence showing the combat off a bit more and culminating in a big boss battle.

I'm also hoping for a gameplay demo for Sucker Punch's next and Bloodborne 2, although I would expect the latter to have a close resemblance to its predecessor.

LESS THAN TWO WEEKS LEFT PEOPLE!

*sees avatar* Heh.

Tbh, I'm finding myself increasingly wishing for that Aztec Souls rumor to be true

lol I can't hide it. I love the other souls games as well but the hype for project beast for me was so crazy and the game even exceeded it.

I heard the Aztec Souls game turned out to be false and it's actually just the video game "The Absolver" that is in development by Sloclap.

Dreams better be here and better be good. Aside from that, I'm kinda swamped in games, I don't need a lot of new stuff, just more evidence that announced titles are actually going to be really good games, and of course, after last year's presentation, another stellar pacing performance by the guys at Sony.

Dreams though...needs to show up in a big way.

I don't know Dreams seems perfect for the playstation experience.

Don't get me wrong Dreams seems awesome but it lack that wow factor inherent to the E3

Ain't no BB2 bih. They've stated it outright, and tbh why would they lie. It's a proven moneymaker, you don't say you stopped making them and then later go "Nah we were just fucking with you."

From's doing an Armored Core, and after that something fantasy like that doesn't play like what their last 4 games have played like.

Wild Arms this E3 ?

From last year:

http://blog.hokanko-alt.com/archives/48083324.html

A certain company who has not publicly revealed their name on the recruitment page is recruiting for a 3D character modeler for the development of a PS4 RPG that blends Sci-Fi with the Wild West.

The specified company is located in Tokyo city, Koto district, Kiba, which just so happens to be where Media Vision is located. Brand new Wild Arms game coming?

That's impressive for Heavy Rain. I'd assume 90% of that is PS3.

Hopefully that means good things for Detroit's marketing.
How was the PS4 version?

I can't see God of War and TLOU Part II being at the same conference. They're both heavy-hitter flagship titles that are big enough to headline individual E3 conferences. I'm thinking God of War closes this year with a gameplay demo a la Uncharted 4 in 2015, and then TLOU Part II closes next year with a gameplay demo a la TLOU in 2012.

Rymuth made a thread about how Idol Minds has rebranded itseld as Deck Nine, and I think its somewhat relevant to here too.

Idol Minds was basically a ''2nd'' party for Sony for 15 years before having Warrior's Lair, a RPG that was supposed to be the poster child for cross-buy/save between PS3 and Vita cancelled. After that they changed development focus to mobile stuff.

At least until now, as according to them they are ''fully focused on narrative driven games – with a new project already signed with AAA publisher'' and also saying stuff like ''Our game will be announced at E3 this year where you'll be able to see our efforts for yourself."

you guys think they could be back to working with Sony after all these years? Or the fact that they are pre-announcing like this doesnt seem to be something like a Sony-move at all?

EDIT: nvm, its for a LiS prequel

From a few days ago Ovosonico's next game announced called Last Day of June. It's being published by 505 Games, so it looks like Sony ended another 2nd party Indie partnership

I don't think they ended anything with Ovosonico. The wording in the official announcement made it sound like it was just a one game deal, which would've been Murasaki Baby

Ovosonico, a new, independent studio founded by industry veteran Massimo Guarini today announced a partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Europe (SCE WWSE). SCE WWSE will be working together with Ovosonico on new intellectual property.

Your right nothing ever was confirmed about the partnership being more than 1 game, I'm just assuming because in the past the majority of 2nd party partnerships Sony had involved working with Sony on multiple titles. This news does show Sony is continuing to move away from smaller 2nd party games though.
