Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

I was expecting Sucker Punch's game to come out Spring 2019 anyway, but still thought it would be announced tonight. I mean Horizon was announced at E3 2015 and came out Spring 2017, whereas God of War was announced at E3 2016 and coming out Spring 2018.

It's possible they want to announce it closer to release.

I'm also shocked at no From Software. If the 3 game deal including Bloodborne was real, where are the other two games? We are approaching the end of the generation by E3 2018 here...

Finally, literally surprised at the very negative reception of Spider-Man. I'm chalking it off as people being extremely upset at how the conference didn't announce any new exclusives, but still..

Best wishes.

The way Sid Shuman hyped PSX during the pre-show leaves me to believe something big is going to happen.

Usually Sony announces dates for PSX later in the year. they have already planned this years PSX.

Yeah, last year really established it as a true tent pole for the PlayStation brand and I firmly expect them to treat their conferences there the same as E3 from here on out.

Good conference, just that have hyped myself too much after being spoiled by last year's PC. Absolutely loved GOW, loved how Kratos dint gave the usual response to that serpent :) Was sooo looking forward to Spider-Man but dint liked it that much, i was expecting a demo with a lot of emphasis on free roaming, this scripted sequence with quite a few QTEs was still quite good though.

Not much bothered with lack of new announcements. Would love if Sony can do a Bethesda with SP's game next year.

So,gameplay for TLOU 2, Death Stranding & SP's new game next E3 :p

Updated with E3 announcements that we have so far.
Will further update if more pops up over the next few days.

I really hope PSX and TGS make up for this lackluster showing. I understand they had to show off so many already announced games this year, but the unknown excites me.

Looking forward to From's and Sucker Punch's new titles announcement this year.

Yep definitely an off year. Sucker Punch's game is still in the oven. Sony Japan is also most likely on pre-productions of some games. London is most likely working on a AAA Vr title. Everybody else is either working on announce games that either released this year or will release within this year and in the next few years.

Sony's option now is to rely heavily on 3rd party games and make 2nd party games. But so far they are in a good position in all cylinders. the 2-4 year development cycle is real :(

If Killer Queen's source is true, we won't see From's game until 2018.

The pre-show this year was not a good idea with how Sony executed it. They disrespected Japanese titles again. Mention Persona 5 on stage but never give Ni No Kuni 2 stage time. It's like tradition.

They should go back to the old pre-E3 week announcement schedule like last year. Then just have the main show itself, no 1 hour lead up.

Still thought it was a solid showing but yea, I feel quite redeemed in my lack of hype/being called a "troll" in the E3 thread.

The silly thing was that the conference was really short. Could have easily been another 20 minutes, for a NNK2 trailer, a GT Sport trailer, Everybody's Golf maybe, a brief Dreams trailer, a little indie sizzle reel, and so on. I know SIEA are sometimes ashamed of Japanese games, but it's frustrating how they tend to ignore anything from Japan that's not AAA. Same deal last year with Gravity Rush 2.

I did enjoy the conference but it was lacking in big announcements. Mind you, I was saying months ago I'd be happy with them just showing gameplay of stuff they'd already announced, so I suppose I have no right to complain. It's my own fault for getting hyped up expecting Sucker Punch, From and Devil May Cry.

EDIT - I will say, God of War had another incredible showing. Days Gone had a great gameplay demo which showed exactly what I was hoping to see - bike riding and using the environment to pit the notzombies against the bandits. Was the bear at the end infected too, or just messed up? Spider-Man also had an amazing demo which was exactly what it needed. I think there's going to be more footage of it, and I'm interested to see general city gameplay that's not part of a mission. The animations were incredible and I really like the look of the combat (Spidey is like a gymnast), although it did have too many QTEs. Hopefully that's just mission-specific because of this set piece and the game won't be anything like that in general. I thought, for example, when he's smashing the engine on the helicopter that didn't need to be a QTE at all - just make it a couple of button presses.

He said Jak and Dexter,Sly Cooper,Loco Roco would be there.

Also the Last Of Us 2, none of that was there.

Edit:Loco Roco 2 was just annoued so he is right about that one.
Oh going back I missed those follow ups well if history repeats itself and those are legit they will probably turn up at other events or later during the week.
What was the leak?
Shadow of colossus remake among other things see loudninja's post for more.

I wonder what went on with Supermassive? They definitely said they were going mulitplatform, but right now they kinda seem like a second party to Sony. They're working on three exclusives for the PS4.

Going multiplatform doesn't mean they would not work on exclusives anymore. Insomniac Games also went multiplatform years ago but are still making exclusives.

A rational part of me is really glad Sony focused on already announced games and games that shouldn't take long to come out. That said, it's really a weird Sony E3 without some crazy announcements. I'm satisfied by the outcome thought. Before E3 I wanted them to show some cool PSVR stuff and they delivered in my opinion. Really excited for Supermassive games. I loved Until Dawn. Can't wait to try out Superhot too.

Superhot VR is an indie game.

They are (the VR shooter they announced isn't Sony published) but people seemed to think that meant ALL their projects were going multiplatform when obviously that just meant they were making multiplatform games in addition to exclusives.

So here's all the new Sony first party announcements:
Hidden Agenda (Supermassive Games)
Horizon: Zero Dawn - The Frozen Wilds (Guerrilla Games)
The Inpatient (Supermassive Games)
Shadow of the Colossus (Bluepoint Games)
That's You (Wish Studios)

Loved almost all of them but man, that's a disappointment when we were expecting FromSoft and Sucker Punch's next projects.

I wasn't expecting FromSoft. People thought they could will that into existence.

Sucker Punch, though, I was expecting.

Maybe no publisher picked up their other efforts so they had to take contracts from Sony? Or they're working with Sony while their other stuff is on the back-burner?

Going multiplatform doesn't mean they would not work on exclusives anymore. Insomniac Games also went multiplatform years ago but are still making exclusives.

You're right, but I doubt Supermassive is big enough to be working on 4 games at the same time, so it seems unlikely they're actively making anything else that Sony is not funding.

I guess I just had the impression that the next time we heard from them it'd be a multiplatform announcement. I'm not complaining or anything since I love that they continue to get games the Inpatient and Hidden Agenda funded, but I was a bit surprised to see three exclusives announced.

I think last years PSX was a big change for them. TLoU:PII is basically your quintessential E3 reveal game, so the fact that they were willing to reveal it there meant that they no longer viewed PSX as being second fiddle to E3. It's every bit as meaningful to them, so anything goes at that event. And they just announced PSX 2017 at E3 (Dec. 9-10). With that said, we still got SotC and Monster Hunter World, which I think are both big announcement in their own way.

Kinda afraid to check the other threads, last night was unbearable on here. Did people mostly calm down?

I feel like people are giving this E3 too much shit. Sure no MEGATON, but the conferences were reaaally game heavy. It's not as awful as some make it seem

Supermassive is the unsung hero for Sony this gen

6 games with them, including software for their new platforms right of the bat (PSVR and PlayLink)

That multiplatform announcement seemed more just to get the word out there, rather than them already having a deal done and a game in development. We've seen with Insomniac and Ready and Dawn that there aren't big publishers running to them with money. Insomniac got burned hard by EA with Overstrike/Fuse, and since have made either small budget games or platform exclusives for Playstation/Xbox/Oculus. RAD has so far announced a small "indie" game and an Oculus exclusive VR game.

No it didn't calm down yet. I actually had to take a break from this place.
Days gone is the last of us
Spider-Man is a telltale game
Anthem will be shit because lol mass effect andromeda
Ubisoft.well we all know how talking about them on here goes. List goes on

E3 has been absolutely unbearable on here

They have so many unreleased exclusives. I might actually agreed with fake Kaz, they should release the already announced exclusive before going nuts with announcing new ones.

So true. Easily by far my least favorite time as a Gaffer yet.

Some didn't like 'em showing games we wont see for years. Now they show next years line up and thats bad too. Everything sucks apparently.

it's forums man...people want to be hyped. I was already expecting this year to be more of a rehash...There's simply no need to create such hype anymore, show the games already announced will actually be good.

I like one more unknown title like Devil May Cry would have satisfied enthusiast crowd, but it's hard to top last year. So many new releases and TLG.

Still this is GAF, the negativity will always win. MS had a pedestrian conference, which was even more boring because they hyped X1X above and beyond, but it wasn't horrible. Just by the books. Sony's by the books is a step above because their studios are larger, but already gamers are just picking stuff apart on here lol

Regarding the conference I agree with the sentiment of merging pre-show and show...Loved Hidden Agenda and Undertale reveals and what they showed about Gt Sport and Ni no Kuni 2

Other than that my biggest surprised/disapointment was no Sucker Punch

I haven't played SotC so really pumped for that

Regarding the release dates we kinda knew here all was gonna be 2018 releases? So no surprise there. Glad to get the Horizon's expansion this year though

The will focus heavily on multiplatforms this fall

It's pretty bad this year I've used to the negativity taking over but this year it's seems real bad I pretty much been in every game thread so far and they've all been filled with hot takes regardless of the game or company

This is the world we living now, not only in here, or in the game ecosystem...negativity all around

I kind of expected a lesser first party showing simply because the majority of studios have already announced the games they are working on. I think Sucker Punch and maybe another SCEJ game are the only questions.

Its just a consequence of Sony deciding to announce a lot of their projects at E3 2016 which is fine and made for a good show.

Rest of 2017 looks decent and 2018 seems pretty big:

Spiderman
Detroit
God of War
Days Gone
Shadow of the Colossus

and as a consequence I reckon 2019 might be a bit bare. Perhaps TLOU2 and Sucker Punch's game makes it. Praying for another SCEJ game.

I'm glad i killed my hopes and dreams a while ago. Prevented me from being disappointed.

Like theres not enough of it yet lol

I guess the world is a pretty shitty place for many people and now that they can the feel the urge to let the rest of us know :/

Don't get it, for me this E3 has been amazing and I can't believe I'm getting

Ni-No Kuni 2 - Nov 2017
Evil Within 2 (Loved the first one) - Oct 2017
Cuphead - Sept 2017
Super Mario Odyssey most likely 2017
A remake of one of the best games ever made SotC

If Xeonblade Chronicles 2 is announced for 2017 I will die

Everybody's golf
Yakuza kiwami

Knack 2

I'm set

I'd be fine with only Injustice for the rest of the year but add stuff like Yakuza, Absolver, Windjammers and Matterfall to the mix and i'll have many great looking games to play. Forgetting some other stuff right now. 2017 is a great year for games.

Would have to play Days Gone this year tho. Looks right up my alley. Theres something about the way it looks graphically that i really like, especially the main character.

I don't actually think this conference was a result of announcing games early like many think. Note: I thought it was a solid 8.5/10, but way too short and light on content. My favorite so far this year but not saying much in an underwhelming E3.

What really brought it down wasn't the format or games announced, it's the baffling decisions to put some of their best stuff in the pre-show. Ni No Kuni 2 SHOULD have gotten stage time. Supermassives new IP should've taken the stage over one of the VR titles. GT Sport needed a trailer on stage.

But to go beyond that, I really wanted a new God of War demo and I think that was the expectation of many. The trailer was great but a demo could've really fleshed the conference out. They just needed more stuff of what they already had shown off else where. Don't hold stuff for pre-show and pre-E3 week if it results in a short show.

You should be putting the Dissidia console announcement in the show if you can. If they had shown of Sucker Punchs game, it would really helped. Matterfall deserved a stage showing. Just build up and show off the diverse profolio of titles that they actually have.

Lastly, a VR only segment is a terrible idea. Space the games out more and let them flow from one another. It was a good idea to cap the VR segment with GoW to wake everyone up but you wouldn't need to if they were interspered through out.

Sony did Japanese games and Supermassive dirty.

Vr only segment is terrible yet if they didn't do it they would be called out for not supporting it. So at that point I don't even wanna hear it from ppl they were gonna get hate for psvr immediately no matter what

I don't have issue with VR games. I just think you can put them throughout a bit better. One before GoW. One after which leads into another big game. Stuff like that allows the conference to ebb and flow a bit more, allowing for some build up and cool down.

The current conference opened with a barrage of games, then a barrage of VR games. And it makes the VR games look worse to those that don't care because it's just this huge segment. If they intersperse the 5-6 games they show throughout a 90 minute conference rather than a 60 minute one? I don't think many would have a problem.

When almost all new games announced are for VR it kinda sucks.
I was glad when they dropped the vita and handhelds in general so they could focus on one platform.

Sony still gets shit for not supporting the Vita enough. Now they support their new device which some called dead n all that and thats also not good.

They're in a tough spot it seems.
