you expressly talk about the patience of the PC player, their willing to wait.

well... they have been wating for those AAA Sony games...and the steam numbers don't show that:

a) they are playing them on PS
b) they don't even give shit about them.

Do you have updated numbers on every game?

if A or B is true than sony is wasting money porting them. But they don't stop, they released more PC ports every years than original games.

I'm not sure how much it cost the dev,but this timed exclusive stuff is somewhat anti- competitive and makes the PlayStation or any similar competing device see better than the competition.

First of all, I don’t have any specific PC sales numbers to discuss, but if you have any insights, I’d be happy to hear them.

There could be many reasons behind this. If you've already waited a year, what difference does it make to wait a few more months for the game to drop in price and be better optimized for PC compared to consoles?

As for why they’re still releasing on PC if it's not selling well, there are a few possibilities:
A) Poor management decisions? This seems quite likely, especially considering who was promoted to CEO.
B) Perhaps they prefer the higher profit margins and the extended sales lifecycle on PC, compared to the more front-loaded sales typical of the console ecosystem.

Just as a frame of reference, god of war Ragnarok made ~800M in revenue in the first 10 weeks.

also we can correlate all time peak steam users as a sign of the amount of sales. And here is your insight:

PC users are actually consoles users as well. so there is a sizable chunk of "PC users" that are not willing to wait and just play on console. of course there are only PC users (by choice or other factors)... but they are not "wating"; they will maybe play the game when is released on PC. or/and they are not interested enough. which also implies different Idiosyncrasies for the remaining people.

As a PC player who bought a console in 2020, I believed that some Sony and third-party games will remain exclusive. Back in 2020, it wasn’t as clear that Sony would eventually port many of its games to PC, so it makes sense to buy games earlier when you already own the hardware anyway. However, this likely won’t be the case with the PS6, as people like me will be more aware of the of future ports and may not feel the need to buy a console at all.

Will be interesting to find out for Sony but when they understand it than it will be too late :).

I'm guessing this was an offer like Stellar Blade because I can't see them not accepting the offer to simply keep it off of Xbox. That would have sucked. I need this on PC. I bet Sony wasn't willing to pay as much as the dev wanted. PC sales for this will be huge.

Yeh my thoughts aswell, they must have wanted to do another project eve and pc is going to be an important platform for this one.

Okay let me rephrase it. Hows the player benefitting?
Exclusives don't benefit players, the opposite: they avoid some players to get access to some games temporally or permanently.

In case of a PS timed console exclusive, you could also say PS players have access to a game earlier than Xbox players. In some cases, the Xbox players never end getting that game, like the Switch ones. Because after seeing the PS (and sometimes PC) sales they consider that the Xbox version won't be worth it.

In case of GaaS/MMO/F2P, for them is key to start with the strongest possible userbase because of some GaaS dynamics depend on it. So for the game/dev team is better to start in many platforms as possible.

Timed exklusivity is a double whammy of not getting sales, lets take a look at ff16.

This is only my personal opinion but i would have bought ff16 on PC day one instantly but now ?, when the game released i was interested in the story so i followed a playthrough on twitch and thats that, the gameplay itself is not enough to burn 70 on a year old release after i experienced the story.

Looks visually sure, but game play wise? What’s to get excited about unless they ramp up the action in the sequel.

That's been the intention from the start, at least according to Kojima. The first game was very much focussed on the "rope" aspect, whereas this one has been billed as being much more of a "stick" and "rope" type of deal.

Look, I get that some people don't rate Kojima as high as some of us do; but the man has one hell of a track record, and he's never been one to step back in terms of scale and ambition across subsequent iterations of franchises.

I loved DS, and for me at least the promise of an expanded, improved sequel is as big of a deal -potentially- as it gets.
