By the time the next generation peaks, Williams predicts, Microsoft will have 25% market share, Sony 65%, and Nintendo 0%. That's despite the fact that PlayStation 3 is expected to boast hotter technology. In addition to high-definition graphics and massive processing power in its Cell multimedia chip, it also will offer a new DVD technology called Blu-ray Disc. So Xbox 360 isn't all that big an improvement or what? Why else Sony made that statement?

Bill Gates said Nintendo is the niche, and Sony said Xbox 360 is just a minor upgrade, so no one has badmouthed Sony and PS3 yet? They must know something, like Sony will reveal something that is so EARTH-SHATTERING that no one dares to speak ill of Sony......... I'm scared of Sony too. :D
 
Really? Because from the looks of it, I thought Sony was going for a more powerful system with entertainment capabalities beyond videogaming.

well, I think Sony probably is on the ball with XBOX 2. I mean, they're cutting the generation short and I don't think Xenon will be anything more than an upgraded Xbox. Thing is, I didn't (really, no one could have) see this SONY PR slag coming... funny because its true. I can't wait for CELL + PS3, If PS3 gets all the major titles, and is a lot more powerful than Xenon, then REV + PS3 is all I need.

Now... about those Q studios games coming to 360....

i think it's safe to say that in that 6 month gap between Xbox 2 and PS3 that we are going to get a generation of difference in performance and the best designed console ever.

I think the first editions come packaged with fresh vaginas as well.

Xbox 1.5 isn't all that far-fetched when you think about it. The leap between Xbox and Xbox 360 is certainly going to be much smaller than PS2 to PS3. Xbox 360 doesn't really offer much more gaming-wise other than prettier graphics. Sure, it's gonna have all that media center mumbo-jumbo. But so will PS3. And PS3 will have a brand new media format. Watch as PS3 gets games with tons and tons of beautiful cutscenes, only to see them get badly compressed as they move that game to a poor DVD-9 for Xbox 360.

But still, the Rare whore in me commands me to buy a Xbox 360, and so I will. :lol
 
I doubt the PS3's ability to play Blu-ray or whatever the HD-DVD/Blu-ray compromise format is called will be nearly as strong a selling point as the PS2's DVD Video player. The success of DVD Video was a given by the time the PS2 was released and the PS2 was released just as DVD Video went mainstream. Will consumers be willing to switch to yet another home video format after only seven years? VHS gave us twenty, after all.

Yeah I agree, I got a Xbox not too long ago and 360 is already coming out wtf. Kinda mad about this. MS cutting the gen short indeed.

Honestly I was kinda excited about 360 at first too, but now the more I think about it a minor upgrade like Sony said kinda turn me off.

I want a real next gen system like the PS3!
 
The reason why 10% was left out is because that's the percentage of people that will own BOTH Xbox 360 and Playstation 3... dummies.

It's all a matter of value. It's like comparing actual GCN discs to PS2/Xbox discs right now. Lots of GameCube owners have been bitching about how stuff got ripped out/compressed of GCN ports because of the lack of disc space. You're going to see lots of it on Xbox 360, I'm pretty sure.
 
Xbox 360 is going to offer superior games compared to PS3, because Xbox 360 has better tools, better support, better graphics/GPU maker (ATI pwned Nvidia) confirmed eDRAM with all the advantages of eDRAM with none of the downsides since its on a another graphics module ( and PS3 eDRAM isnt even confirmed), better smarter CPU (not as powerful but better because Cell is unproven and relies on simple stupid cores than can only do certain things well)... blah blah blah. ........ See ive made Xbox 360 sound totally superior to PS3.

This was obviously going to be part of Sony's strategy when marketing the PS3. MS wants to go first, so they better take every advantage it gives them.
 
Sony hype just doesnt work on me, every time they roll out this "quantum leap in technology" bollocks my eyes roll back so far into my head that i get an eye full of what i had for dinner last night.


That being said i do kinda agree with the Xbox 1.5 comment. It is just more of the same.

To play devil's advocate, hardware difference isn't just a function of time ;)

I don't think it's untrue, however, to say that MS is a little less product-orientated this time round than last? You can be sure Sony will capitalise on that, PR-wise.

I have great confidence that they will deliver, no reason not to. I remember playing the Dreamcast and thought "OMG this is as far as graphics can go!!!!!! PS2/GCN/Xbox won't have much differences!!!!!!". Years later in 2003 I turned back on the DC then it was like "DAMN! What happened to all my pretty DC games??!???". :(

I think Xbox 1.5 is a preview of next gen like the DC, while PS3 is the real deal to come just like the PS2.

Umm I just want to bring attention to what Sony said that's all. Gaming media and journalists all bent out of shape each time Sony speaks, you know. So it's only right that a separate topic of that to be made.

Plus have you even read the thread you refer to yourself? It's just pages of idle speculation how megadud 2.0 is gonna happen and some are already bringing out the champagne. So pretty much whatever I post there will be lost, yes.
