Sony's E3 2014 - What are we all expecting?

I really don't know what to expect. According to some members of the media, they expect to be underwhelmed. I hope that enough is shown to at least put to rest the stupid list wars stuff. I want both companies to show at least enough to compel late-adopters to make the jump to current gen.

On that note, I listened to a podcast today that touched on Sony's games. Does anyone want to guess who said the following?

“Sony has…fucking no games. [It has] a bunch of junk announced every day… There is garbage announced every single day. Whereas Microsoft is lining up a shitload of software. [Microsoft has] Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break… and that Fable game… And other rumored stuff. Whereas Sony just has the Order.”

At least E3 will move us into the next phase of the 'games vs no games' argument I was tired of months ago.
You would think a journalist wouldn't be such an ignorant fool, but here we are... Just listened.. So MS has games that they haven't announced even though we know what all of their 1st party studios are making while we know 1/3rd of Sony's. What a moron.

If they just show Crash and The Order gameplay demo, I would be satisfied. Actually scratch the Order demo, just give me CRASH!

Without wanting to linger on the topic, that podcast is pretty wild. I do get where he's coming from with regards to the indie titles, but my counter would be that Sony's doing a great job of spotlighting the good stuff. So, yes, Sparkle 2 -- a competent but otherwise uninspiring match three puzzler -- may be coming to the PS4 next week, but it's Transistor that's (arguably rightfully) getting all the attention. More choice isn't a bad thing, as long as Sony continues to spotlight the really top-notch stuff, while also keeping the PlayStation Store well organised.

He also makes it sound like that content's coming to PS4 just because, but the reality is that it'd be coming to Xbox One as well if Microsoft had got its act together earlier.

The way that he spins off rumoured titles on one side and ignores the other side is extremely obnoxious, however. I still maintain that Sony's keeping a lot of stuff close to its chest, though I do generally agree that it probably won't be ready this year. I also share the concerns over The Order -- it just doesn't look anywhere near to being finished based on the bits that we've seen. I think there are valid points in what they're all saying, but the way the information was presented -- from Gies especially -- was very poor.

You guys think people would quit saying PS4 has no games if Sony announced/showed Uncharted 4, Project Beast, TLG, GG's New IP, and Media Molecule's new IP at their conference?

No, the people saying that probably aren't even interested in a PS4. Even if all that is shown they will find ways of nitpicking because what they mean by "PS4 has no games" (a factually incorrect and ignorant statement) is actually "PS4 has no games that I like".

Hmm, Isn't that the second time someone from Sony posted that picture? That sign was in their PS4 video. The message is wayyy too clear for it to not mean anything.

Great post. Thanks, as I can't listen right now.

Anyone think they're gonna start an Instant Game Collection for PS4?

I can see them going with Killzone, Knack, and a third-party game along with a couple of new indie games (N++, Rogue Legacy, etc)

And if shinobi is right about GoW: Ascension coming to PS4, I can see it as a possible IGC title as well.

Well, technically they already have an IGC for PS4 but it's indie games.

I definitely do think they'll announce at least one AAA game that will join the collection. Probably Killzone from first party and AC4 from third party.

Obviously fake. They aren't going to release two COD titles that would compete with each other in the same time frame.

this one is supposedly only on current gen consoles though.
ps4 on front could be a coincidence

idk maybe i just want this to be true. i guess we wont have to wait long to see if its fake

My input on the whole "PS4 has no games topic":

I just think that Sony is holding all their games close to their chest because they don't want another TLG or Agent or FF Versus XIII scenario again. They want to show that they are confident to bring to consumers that won't take forever to develop. Another reason is that they don't like leaks. Sony is infamous for those leaks right before E3 like the PSPgo. They want to surprise gamers and viewers with what they have in store. I'm sure Sony will definitely restore everyone's faith this E3. Everyone is acting like the exclusives are what sell consoles, but that isn't the only factor. Considering the AAA multiplat has already shown that the PS4 is way stronger than the xbone, it will drive people towards PS4. Not only that, they also have a great value in PS+.

and The Legend of Dragoon 2. Or the remake. It doesn't matter anyway, both of them have the same chance to come back as Crash developed by Sony.. which means zero.

This

Yoshida has said several times last year they want to reduce the time between reveal and release

Killzone shadowfall. Knack. Resogun all released less than a year after reveal

Infamous second son and the order(barring a delay) will have released a year and a few months after release

Driveclub looks to be the exception to this rule

Sony has announced and showed more than two times more PS4 exclusive games than MS has for XBO up till this time.
Even if we count AAA one console exclusives only PS4 has the same number of games released and announced for it as XBO.
There is no need for "faith" as there is no problems with PS4 software lineup. Any problems with PS4 games exist only in Xbox fanboys heads.

Also at the moment on Metacritic the PS4 as 67 rated games with an overall average of 72% while the Xbox has 46 games and an overall average 67%

lol No.

People who say that don't know what they are talking about anyway, or just say it to get a rise out of people.

It is a long running meme from back in the early PS3 days. Until 2009 really when the Sony WWS kicked into high gear and E3 was just loaded with a ton of software. But people still used it. Then used it again for Vita and now PS4.

It is not true of course, but it will keep being said as people think it is an easy laugh

Does it feel like to anyone else that Activision kidnapped Crash Bandicoot and are now holding him hostage? I mean they did jack shit with the franchise once they took it over. So odd.

Ok now a Sony page posting that Crash teaser sign again after months of it seemingly being debunked (and obviously E3 upcoming) is interesting. It's entirely possible that they're partnering with Activision for an exclusive game (especially with the Destiny partnership)

The only confirmation we got was that Activision still owns the IP and "continues to look for new ways to bring him back" or whatever

Honestly back in the day the only Crash game I played was CTR, but I would love to see him come back for the sake of nostalgia (and to bring back the cartoon mascot fun)

Believe

we are talking about some of the ppl that will complain "Not enough teeth" when offered a free blow job
sony can announce its lineup for the next 2 years and it'll still have no games
it worked on ps3 because, in the beginning, it was pretty true
but it's not gonna stick now
as the great regina once said

Reboot first. Don't you dare say sequel. I need my reboot with
Rose
there from the beginning. DevilFox, thou must have faith.

Let me just say fuck partnering with them. Buy it, and keep it. I can see another situation where Sony partners with them, make some dollars then Activision decides to make multiplatform and turn it into a shitty franchise by burying it to the ground for the second time.

I'm expecting a LOT of first party content as well as some surprising indie exclusives.

Third party wise a few collaborations where Sony is funding part of the development for exclusivity. And third party showcase for games that are more "associated" with the PlayStation brand.

Yeah, I agree with you. It's just that people around forums seem to always talk about having no games to play. Faith needs to be restored for some people because they always have the doom and gloom thoughts from all the changing of staff for Sony's WWS. Even if they are trolling, some people still think about it in the back of their minds. Also, not many people seem too impressed with The Order 1886. I was just referring to the whole quality of the games and not the quantity. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that.

What are the odds of a Heavenly Sword re-release with the movie coming out this year?

Ninja Theory is the only one who hasn't released anything PS4 exclusive, but had a role in the 13 February reveal video, where devs spoke about the PS4. Even Tim Schafer had a Playroom DLC.

Or am I completely stupid?

I can't believe people actually want another game with this hideous 'edgy' 90s mascot. At least skin the game with Uncharted characters or something. Crash and Jak are abominations and should stay dead.

nostalgia + a new crash game with knack graphics would be amazing

Harmonix were in that video too. I wouldn't read too much into that.

Edit nm, misread

No wait

unless sony are now funding xbone games, ninja theory's game is nothing to do with them

Yeah you. Ninja Theory worked with Sony already with Heavenly Sword.

Well they aren't doing a good job. Drive Club got a huge delay. inFamous was originally a launch game and got delayed and still is quite barbones in terms of content. They revealed The Order and originally said it was a Question title but now it seems it's a fall title and it doesn't even have a multi player mode. Finally they also revealed Uncharted 4 and many people are already saying it will be a 2015 title due to people leaving Naughty Dog. Then we also have Indie games like Shadow of the Beast, Rime, and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture that got revealed too early.

Ninja Theory's next title is already confirmed to be multiplat.

EDIT: Should probably add "unofficially confirmed".

I feel the opposite way. While I am a fan of Indiana Jones, Uncharted has never really appealed to me (same with Tomb Raider). When it comes to 3rd person adventure games I prefer more cartoony characters/worlds, rather than the blockbuster action movie approach

Your post is full of opinions from this website that were presented as facts.

inFamous was never a launch game. The Order was always a 2014 title. Uncharted wasn't announced with a release date. However, they went out of their way to clear up the misconception of the game being a 2015 release date. Also, the last Uncharted came out 3 years ago. None of those conspiracy theories about Uncharted makes no sense because no one has anything idea what the status of the game is right now. We'll find out at E3.

Does Ninja Theory own the IP?

Since in the movie they removed Andy Serkis and replaced him with a different actor I was wondering it they planned to release an updated game with the new actor.

Even then, Drive Club is the only exception, but if you've seen the latest footages here the game looks fantastic. I'm pretty sure inFamous was always known to be a launch window game and it was in fact what it was. The Order is one of the games Sony needs to use to restore faith into people and it doesn't need to have a MP mode to be good. Uncharted 4 isn't that far off. 2015 for indies and Uncharted isn't a long time and you want a game like Uncharted to be given some time to be worked on. The Last of Us was delayed a few months and look at how that turned out. So if you compare these games to FF versus, TLG, and Agent, then there's really no reason to be even mentioned. None of these games will share the same fate as those. It's more of looking into the past and learning from those mistakes. Also, Sony never said that the Order was gonna release earlier than fall and Uncharted was never said to be released this year. I'm not too sure about those indie titles though.

what cracks me up about is peeps still maintain that Sony NEEDS GAMES to keep up their, according to this narrative, game-less momentum! While MS, supposedly, HAS ALL TEH GAMES, and yet... x-D

when no one buys the Kinect-less, $399 xbone... then what?

anyway, why is no one talking about Playroom? I honestly think that is a HUGE selling point for PS4, and MS is still behind/has yet to answer...

I just don't understands that movie. If there is no new game, why bother? Ofc, if there is a sequel, than the movie is a nice catch-up, and I guess another studio could made the game, but making a good character action game is hard, who would be available?

Platinum Games?... ah just kidding.

I don't believe Sony is in a position to sink any money into third-party development at the moment.
