I casually refer to them as cheevos BECAUSE they are so dumb. I guess I don't blame people for not getting the self-deprecation, this is a message board after all (figured maybe my silly avatar would help?). btw, you're like my fucking hero, I've listened to every GFW Radio 2 or 3 times, got friends to listen to it, would be on the OOTG threads asking for more, retweet tons of your tweets and one of my favorite things ever is your Heroes of the Web stuff. I get annoying, pathetic internet/video game people (I'm on GAF a lot and work at Gamestop, I encounter them all the time!). I guess it's kind of an honor to be labelled one by you?
*I was working at EB the holiday that buying guide and image came out, my friends and I had a good laugh about it (I actually tweeted it to them like a month ago for old-times sake).
Guide has shipped and should be here Monday. Pretty excited to get it, but surprised it is already back ordered on Amazon.
Anyone have any nice pictures of the guide and its contents?
QisTopTier is a liar.
Viola cheese does work, but only while the game doesn't go Asshole Mode Activate on you. The loop inexplicably fails for some reason, and then the AI is all "haha, that was fun, but I just won this round".
The pages are just bunches of arrows, acryonms and numbers.
delicious delicious numbers
No, I was delaying it so it'd hit on wakeup, but as somebody who's doing it just to get the retarded unlock and has no interest in actually learning Viola, I really hate how it's not nearly as braindead or reliable as Zangiefing SF4 vanilla's challenge modes. You gotta make sure you delay the B+K for RIGHT when they are getting off the ground, don't do it right away. There are times you might need to toss out a BBB as well. It's easy! I could prob do it under 10 mins now that I know how it works. Cervantes is the hardest though.
My favorite cuisine. Toss is some high quality art of Ivy's boobs and we'll have a winner.
I died on cervantes 3 times... I almost triple perfected Algol XDNo, I was delaying it so it'd hit on wakeup, but as somebody who's doing it just to get the retarded unlock and has no interest in actually learning Viola, it's not nearly as braindead as Zangiefing SF4 vanilla's challenge modes.
Cervantes was one of the easier ones for me. Siegfried, Edge Master, and Algol can go to hell though.
Psh Viola and Hilde are the best females, Ivy is trash
"Reeeeealy hating the lack of guard impact. It makes spammers a LOT more annoying."
Guard impact is there. And auto GI is there. Also, most moves leave people at disadvantage on block, so if they're just pressing buttons, counter hit them or sidestep them.
I totally get not being able to make someone with his style or editing him (like giving him an afro or bikini) but I don't get why we can't change his colours. I mean, it's like a big thing in the AC games he's in. You get to change your clothes colours etc. Such a shame we can't do that to him.
Yes, and trash is dirty.
My problem was having it loop ok for a while, then I'd hit terrain and the orb tracking or spacing would fail, or the AI would decide that THIS TIME it'd roll or throw out something to counter. Then I get sent into input-reading hell.Honestly the way it works is like this, you do the uppercut, if it knocks down you B+K, if it doesnt knock down you BBB. That's the main trick to it. It doesnt always work and there are times were you will get bitch slapped hard. But as long as you stay consistent you should have it in no time

Like I said, sometimes they would block the first two hits as expected, but then interrupt the down strike with something instead of taking it clean like usual. Siegfried did this to me a LOT.Yeah if they are able to roll you are doing it early, you gotta wait for when they are starting to get up onto their knees, just don't press anything and they just get right up most of the time. The orb will always be where they are so it doesnt matter how far they are from it when you do the B+K so if they roll it will still be right on them. This is why you gotta wait for them to get up first
I've been sidestepping. It's so much worse getting hit by that full charge.About GIs, Felt really stupid fighting my first nightmare last night. He does his CE, and he becomes all green and shiny and I'm like "I'm going to hit that!". Bad move, okay learned my lesson. Next round he does it again, I just sit there waiting for it to end..... little did i know the move still comes out if you don't trigger the GI.
But now I know throws and other CEs will break it, good to know.
Guard Impact is there but the meter makes it useless now. I had a few matches today where they were basically just mashing B over and over again and I used to be able to just guard impact them and that'd be that. Now I have to sidestep and try not to get hit. Mashing one attack is still a horrible "strategy" but it was more horrible when I could guard impact every obvious move.
Notice how his poses in the official artwork for this game are exactly the same as the ones in the official artwork for the Assassin's Creed games? I get the impression Ubisoft is very restrictive about what can be done with the character.
Oh shit, this is awkward. I wasn't trying to come across as hateful as that other poster seems to think, though. My thinking was simply: This is that buyer's guide guy, isn't it? (and in so far as some thinks achievements amount to anything, they're absolutely the "nyuck nyuck" guy from the guide. Sorry.

Speaking of AI exploits though, in story mode if you score a knockdown then run at them the AI will do something defensive 90% of the time. Scored a ton of damage just doing throw, run, check for crouch block, throw, run, and so on.
8A+B is two hits. I wasn't aware you could adjust the timing on the second.Yeah with sig you kinda gotta do the whole thing a bit slower, so he tries to go on the offensive but gets countered. Has a small bit of timing to it. Still near braindead though xD

You can take screenshots with the PS3 version in character creation; that's the only difference I've heard.Any major differences between the PS3/360 versions?
You delay doing the first hit Don't do it just mashing it like gief in sf4. There is a set rhythm to it.
Yeah the run at the downed AI and throw them as they get up has worked in seemingly every Calibur game. Hardest AI will usually duck it most of the time though.
It actually works against many people online too as they usually go for a slow wake up attack which the throw will beat despite them seeing it coming. The throw range seems extended from past installments too.

If I hated SCIV will I like this game? Seems like a good jumping in point for the series. Don't care about single player content, naturally.
This just sounds like you don't want to adapt. Sidestepping bb is the better option anyway, since it's guaranteed damage when you punish. In previous SC games, if you gi'ed, I could do it right back. If you're having problems with such a basic move, you should reevaluate your strategy.

I still win every time against spammers, obviously, but the guard impact system was one of the things that set SoulCalibur apart from other fighting games. It's worse for being without it. (And yes, it's hard to adapt after using guard impacts in every single match since 1999. I've been playing SoulCalibur for ages.)
Did you hate the other SC games as well? Because it's still SC. I don't really see how someone can hate SCIV and like SCV or any other SC.

I fucking despised scIV. Why? cause the game was slow as fuck. Like everything I did felt like I was playing underwater. SCV is fast and fluid as fuck. 3 was about the same speed as 2 but the game was a mess overall. SC1 and Soul Edge didnt feel too special in all honesty. But SC2 felt so perfect, and SC5 feels like the first legit sequel to it.

Is there a Hilde stand-in in SCV? I hated that character.
In any case I think I'll get this game. I should get back into 3D fighters this year.
The lack of easily having GI is hard to adjust to, but I feel like it's making me a better player. I'm recognizing strings to sidestep and punish, and making much better use of auto-GI moves to keep my attacking momentum up.
What the fuck man.
Hilde is in, Viola is juggle happy as well.Is there a Hilde stand-in in SCV? I hated that character.

<---- cervantes main. Dont hate! He felt... funky as fuck in 4 lol

I wanna face your Cervantes Need more XP!
I have, too, and I think it's better without it. Now you have to know how to block, just guard, punish, you have to use auto-gi attacks, and know when to sidestep. It's nice that I don't have to worry about a get out of jail free card when my opponent only has a general guess of what I'm going to do.
Hmm not sure how to react to this news. When yall say GI are yall talking about parry? I think it is to be forward+A or back+A. Are you telling me that this is gone?
