South Dakota Republicans’ “state of emergency” to avoid implementing corruption law

We've been doing this in Michigan for a while an nobody cares. Remember the Emergency Financial Managers made famous by Flint and Detroit Public School? We voted those down only for them to come back stronger.

Michigan voters rejected that law by referendum in 2012, only to see a new bill passed, PA 436, a month later. The new version made some changes to the original version, including requiring the state to pay the salary of the EM, rather than the cash-strapped local government they were appointed to rescue, and giving the local government the power to vote out the EM after 18 months. The most controversial change made to PA 436 was that it stipulated that the public could not repeal it.

And there was a ballot measure about wolf hunting a few years ago, if I remember correctly, that didn't matter because the legislature took preemptive measures.

Wow astronomical levels of arrogance and disdain on display. These people have no fear of losing their seats. They took a gamble that SD residents would still reliably vote Republican even after this measure. That gamble will likely pay off.

I'm curious what these Republicans are like with each other behind closed doors. They are literally super villains for all intents and purposes - corrupt, power hungry, criminals - do they act like it when the cameras are off, scheming away how they can get away with more insane shit?

This is something I've thought about quite a bit. If I had a time machine, I'd devote my life to climbing the ranks of the Republican party just to listen in on private conversations. Unfortunately, I'm guessing you need to sacrifice a minority child or something to reach the inner sanctum.
