Sounds about right. I will say, I do really like the environmental art in the game. I'm not going to play it and I still think the main character is one of the ugliest designs of all time, but they nailed the backgrounds.

How's that grift going?...

...And what if they DO give you what you want?

This shit is DONE.

"South of Midnight is a rocketship" ... pointed straight down, I guess.

What can you say? Everything that Xbox touches gets stagnant or goes to shit 🤷‍♂️

They spend more money, and the outcome is worse. Phil Spencer, Matt Botty, Sarha Bond, and Aarong Grenberg...the teletubbies of the gaming industry,

Nobody has a problem with black people. But this deliberate uglification of characters to placate people with mental disorders needs to stop.
If you actually played the game, it establishes the main character is fairly poor and an athlete runner. She is shown preparing for a storm by herself. I don't think she has time or money to be all glammed up. They aren't going for a style where everyone is CW channel models. The character model looks to have professional makeup and hair done while under carefully ideal lighting conditions. They obviously took some liberties and stylized the character. There are scenes where she is dressed up in the launch trailer. I think some of you guys enjoy being angry.

Game looks woke as fuck. I'm frankly shocked it had concurrent players at all. Who outside of gamepass buys this shit?

If Dustborn went woker.

Also, I gave yall a lot of leeway when you said shadows 81 was a "great" review average, but now we are celebrating 77s? Do you understand the review scale for video games?

Do me a favor and explain exactly how it "looks" woke.

Game had bomb right from day one. The trailers they had, all I remember is really rough choppy animations and frames like it's a stop motion game. Then a later preview was shown and hey, it's smoother looking. What happened?

Turns out the game has an option for smooth or choppy cut scenes or something. Why would you show a game with choppy mode on?

They put the SBI in the credits. Good on them to put ideology first before profit.
I mean, they unfortunately hired them for consultation, that's what happens, lmao.

But to be real, even if SBI wasn't involved at all, I'm sure nothing would change in this thread, or for the game, lol.

It's their art style choice for whatever reason, I don't really get it. I guess since that choppiness look was big with Arcane they decided to do it? I've never seen Arcane, but it definitely looks stop motion-y. I guess it's cool that there's an option to turn it off, lol.

Yep. With or without SBI, this is a Compulsion game. Oodles of style....severe lack of substance. That just cannot seem to deliver in the gameplay department. Just so little about their games that is compelling.

I started playing today, but lost interest after just a little while. There are just too many awesome games that I have lined up to play. I might come back to this one later. But I'm going to finish Shadows at the very least first.

Just a sample size of one (me), but regarding style I took a look at the 3 games they made and have zero interest. Just looking at the covers alone doesn't resonate mass acceptance. Very niche kind of vibe they give right off the bat.

MS tried hard pushing We Happy Few. One look at the game name, cover and gameplay snippet and it looks like junk. Checking MC, it got about 60. Their older game Contrast also got about 60. SoM much better at 77.

Yeah....not my thing either. They do have a distinct style and I can appreciate the artistry, but I'm not sure it is the right style for video games. I could get past it if their games had great gameplay, but they just don't.

Yuuuup! This is just another game that I'm sure people are going to say didn't do well because of "DEI" this or "woke" that, but the reality is it was never projected to be a great game in the first place. Yeah, I've never been interested in any of their titles. Even this with nothing new out there for me to play.

black lead, but he won't admit that
I doubt he dislikes it because of that reason although I don't know the guy, I'm always on the belief that most people who dislike woke shits aren't racist. There's obviously are some actual racist people out there but I believe the % is very very low compared to the majority. If we want to root out whose a actual racist than this game isn't it. It'll be Elder Scrolls VI cause that game is going be in Hammerfell where it's the Redguard's homeland and Redguards looks like Africans in appearance. So the trailers and promotional materials are going to feature redguards mostly as the Hoonding a.k.a the Redguard's version of the Dragonborn for the Nords for Skyrim. That would be a good game to expose whoses actually racist cause the Redguards have always been in the Elder Scrolls lore and they have a very deep and interesting lore just like the other races in the series. There's probably bound to be some clueless racist on youtube and in forums who knows nothing about the lore that might auto say woke just because of some Redguard promotional materials. Plus the game is going to massively popular and among one of the greatest and most popular games just below the level of GTA VI in popularity. I'll probably be seen as woke to the actual racist when Elder Scrolls VI cause I'll be defending that game as ES is one of my favorite series of all times.

Some of the environment and style reminds me of the unique world and style of Zeno Clash if you ever heard of it. It had some pretty unique and strange design and I wish South of Midnight was more like Zeno Clash, but yeah they could definitely have made the character better while keeping her as the same race.

Considering how quirky the worlds are, I dont think video games are the right medium too. But I could see their kinds of mystical worlds being good for sci-fi books or TV shows or animated flicks.

OK, that is just pure hyperbole, Dustborn was literally Woke The Game, this isn't anything like that, unless I'm not up to date on my outrage culture and now American South Folk Tales are now Woke?
I haven't looked too deep into this game just know it has some Zeno Clash vibes so don't know if it has any disgusting agenda shits, but so far I haven't seen any yet at least not like dustborn or shitguard where it's easily in your face with that shit. But I do see some people mentioning SBI being involved. But again I don't know how much they were involved in it cause FFVII Rebirth if I remember correctly had SBI involved right? But game was amazing and beautiful and got great character designs without any of that mentally insane crap shoved in the game.

Exactly this.

Certain folks get up in arms if folks don't like a game from their favorite console company, but Compulsion just makes boring games that aren't fun, especially in the gameplay departments. They have never made an awesome game.

I tried it but dropped during Chapter 3. The game just wasn't fun and, most importantly (as you also said), there are too many awesome games lined up that I should be playing instead. I have limited gaming time, and I can't choose to spend it on relatively mediocre products.

I guess, this level of cut-throat competition is bad for publishers but good for gamers as they fight it out amongst themselves and we get the best of the best.

I think some people have been eating up outrage culture so much that they want to go to that first over anything else. But the reality is if a game isn't fun or good, you can't fake it to be memorable and/or great. If you take whatever people think is "woke" completely out of the game, the game won't suddenly be a better game, lol.

I think what's happened the past 5 years, which includes tons of BLM (when Floyd happened), jammed in diversity, racial swaps for characters, politics and seemingly hardly any Asians and Latinos in media, that some people will see a piece of media (games, TV, movies etc...) with a black lead and right away think.... Here we go again. A big dog and pony show about black people and probably white people being bad. And as usual, who gives a shit about Latinos and Asians.

For those of you who dont watch NHL Hockey, when the Floyd stuff happened, suddenly for a full year every telecast was all about BLM, a group of Black NHL players (ya, all 10 of them out of 700 players) made a special diversity group in the league, and every pre-game and intermission instead of analysis and injury reports was all about Black people. Never has the NHL focused on any Asian players (not many), or handful of hispanic players either. It's a very white guy league, but race has never been brought up. Nobody promotes whities dominating either. People might argue Canada vs US vs Russian players in a battle of countries, but not race. Evan Rodrigues is Portuguese. I've never seen anything promoting guys like him with family roots from Portugal.

Then, just like most leagues it all disappeared. The NBA guy Silver even said they started getting rid of it due to pushback and declining ratings. So money first, BLM now second.

I think a lot of people just see all this self promotion and pandering as annoying and political. So what happens is any media that isnt trying to push and simply wants to have a game or movie with Black people get unfairly lumped in with the forced-out-the-door political stuff. People dont have the time or money to give it a shot. They'll just move onto something else they know there isnt a chance at political plots.

I never called him racist.

do you think someone assuming a game is woke because there is a black lead makes them a racist? because you're the one bringing up racism, not me.
