I thought last week's was more filler than this one.

The guy who kept singing in the background made me lose it.

:lol

I just got to the
Freddy Krueger/Star Trek

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Glad someone else got the Generations homage.

I agree with the people who felt it was the weakest episode. It just wasn't very clever and the humor felt completely forced and if may say douche-y.

I miss the older South Park stories where the kids got into situations because they thought like kids but took things too far, rather than all these new stories that are just parodies and shots at things.

I concur. This is pretty much spot on...Back then the parodies always occurred within a smaller context, but now it seems that they are at the forefront of every story.

Not as good as last week's, but I don't know what show you guys have been watching. South Park hasn't been week in and week out excellent for several years.

It wasn't a clunker. Childhood Mackey was great. How old is Mackey supposed to be? Is this a Simpson's situation where Kyle and Stan are 10 year olds born in 2000? Mackey's room of toys looked eerily similar to my shit as a kid, but that doesn't seem right. He was an older guy in 1995.

Lazy writing =/

The last episode that I can remember that wasn't dripping with pop culture tv/movie/political themes was The List - November 14, 2007(I guess it's possible I missed the reference).

The episodes about being a kid were always the best.

Wonder how much of this dislike of the episode is because of the love for Inception.

The writing lacks subtlety. You can't just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

Lazy writing is taking something like Jersey Shore, or any reality show, which is already stupid to begin with, and mocking it because it's easy to do.

I was rolling my eyes when I saw they were parodying another reality show this week (Hoarders) but this week's episode actually had some inspiration to it.

My dislike of this episode was because of the general laziness of the parody. The only thing that really felt inspired was Randy dicking around as a Butterfly; everything else involved characters overtly saying "that isn't clever" and the like. As someone that was playing World of Warcraft at the time, I still found that episode to be pretty great when it came out, mostly because the jabs it took at WoW and its player base went beyond characters flatly saying "this sucks" or "you're wasting your time."

Yet people love it when they do it about religion. The WoW episode was them doing a huge build up to point out how trivial the whole thing was in the end. Magic USBs and the like was clever in the idea that this is sort of that "WoW world." Or at least how other people perceive it.

This episode was them following the idea of Inception and just saying it isn't clever, like most critics do. They followed the rules of Inception and made it dumb. They found the holes in the logic.

Making Insheeption better is as simple as not having characters say "making something complex doesn't make it more clever." Leo and company shooting people in real life as they make their entrance already shows that it's over the top and doesn't make any sense. We don't need bad writing to explicitly state it.

I really liked the Glen Beck episode because the whole thing was a setup to one joke about Avatar.

Haven't seen Inception and still liked the episode a lot. Jersey Shore was much better though.

Also it scares me that I knew the mascot would molest Mackey!

I enjoyed it but it certainly wasn't subtle. Loved the guy making music while somebody explained it. And kid Mackey was fun.

The mascot thing was coming a mile away though. :lol

I thought last night's episode was decent. MUCH better than the terrible Jersey Shore episode. I've never seen an episode of Jersey Shore, but watching the parody of it on South Park annoyed the hell out of me, and it made the episode more of a chore to get through.

One question though. I know there is a show about hoarders on A&E or one of those channels. Were the two psychologists supposed to be the guys from that show?

As someone who thought Inception was creative but ultimately overhyped and overrated, this episode was awesome.
Just because the episode validates your opinion of Inception, doesn't necessarily make it a great episode in on itself.

I'm glad I saw Inception, because at least I knew what was going on (even though the whole point was that nobody knows wtf is going on). But it's just too much of a spoof to my likings. I mean, you can parody a film like Inception by creating a similar story, but SP goes to far with it. Makes it too obvious: like including all the main characters of the movie in the episode. I like more subtlety. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the Jersey Shore episode, which is also a direct parody of about 3 tv shows. So perhaps it just comes down to personal taste, or the way the source material is handled.

Still enjoyed it, but I doubt in 10 years time, when Inception is out of everyones mind, this episode will hold up. I hope a few episodes come up that are just in South Park world with the South Park kids, just to keep the balance between current events/random storyline episodes.

I haven't seen inception and I loved this episode. The thing about South Park is, when they do parodies, you don't typically have to know anything about the source material to enjoy the episode. I haven't watched Hoarders either, although I know of it, and it's only because of this thread that I even realize they WERE referencing these things.

Maybe it comes off as irritating if you get every single reference in every south park episode, but South Park can be good, random fun during the moments that fly over your head, and I like that about the show.

With something like Family Guy, you lower your eyebrows, tilt your head, and go "Huh?"
With the Simpsons (at least nowadays), you go "Urgh...."
With South Park, you go "WAT :lol"

It would be awesome if it poked fun at the style and action scenes, but instead it YELLED AT YOU LIKE A POST IN ALL CAPS. You can tell these episodes are created in two days.
Sucks that you don't like it. I'm a huge long-time SP fan and LOVED the episode. To each his own I guess.

I can't stop thinking of that guy singing the Inception theme song, "doo doo doo doo doo doo doo BRAAAAAAAAAAM. BRAAAAAAAAAAAM. doo doo doo doo doo doo BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM" :lol

Certainly the most inspired part of the episode. Randy is easily the most consistently funny character outside the kids

Hey now, it takes more than that.

It took 5 days.

Episode was terrible. I barely cracked a smile when Randy humped that butterfly but other than that I really wanted the episode to end

Yep. Someone needs to interview Trey and Matt and ask them why they do this. Is it really just lazy writing and the I'm rich and don't give a fuck attitude?

Wasn't at all impressed by this weeks or last weeks episode - the NASCAR episode was pretty funny to me, but that's because it was Cartman & Butters shenanigans rather than a parody of some recent pop culture trend.

You are correct. Pointing out Inception's ridiculousness and inherent self-comedy and little Macky is what made it a good episode in my opinion.

I liked it. Would have been better if instead of just straight up using the Inception crew, they used characters from the show to do the same thing; maybe Jimbo, Ned, and Barbrady. Still, the background music guy made me crack up every time, kid Mackey was great, and the totally random guys thrown into the dream (Hasselbeck, pizza guy) were unexpected.

Also someone asked earlier if it spoils Inception; it doesn't, but I think the episode is more fun if you've see the movie.

First South Park episode I've seen in a long time that was as consistently funny as something around the Season 8 peak.

Wasn't entirely sure the Leo and crew cameo was needed, though. The joke had already been well established by that point.

Definitely my favorite episode of the season so far (not that it means much since I didn't like any of the others). Freddy's bit was kind of lame, but everything else made me laugh.

I haven't seen Inception, though; is it really as goofy as South Park makes it out to be? Guess I'll find out in a couple of months.
