OMG IF TRUE.

*Edit: Wouldn't that be a little too soon after E3? We may not even see games until then, and they would'nt build much hype launching that soon IMO.

S P O N G is as reliable as Johnny Nightrain. Take that how you want.

Launch in 8 months when we haven't seen a single screenshot of a Revolution game yet? Doubtful.

I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE THIS NEWS.

-After the DS launch, a nearly simultaneously Revolution launch definitely seems plausible.
-We have no idea whatsoever regarding the progress of the Hollywood and Broadway chips, other than that they're design-complete and probably nearly completely fabbable now.
-We know Nintendo's second priority (behind having a clean launch) is having one that takes place before the PS3 craziness.
-They launched the GBA in June 2000, and that seemed to go pretty well.

If this is true, I'd be excited just because there'd be some spacing between the three consoles. Xbox this November, Rev in June, and PS3 next October/November. I don't believe for a second that the PS3 will leave the island of Japan anytime sooner than next October.

Still, this news came from Sp-0-ng, so if it's right, it's only because it's a guess. Because Sp-0-ng sucks.

?

Didn't MS do the same thing with Xbox 360? The time from the MTV unveiling to launch is around 6.5 months.

So we haven't seen anything related to Revolution and you still think it can launch before PS3? While I'm not doubting the ability of Nintendo to launch in June (mostly first party stuff could be kept very secret), why the doubting on Sony?

And if this is true (big if), then Sony has no choice but to at least attempt a global launch. In theory they should be best placed logistically to handle one, but with two other hot platforms taking up capacity, it may be more difficult.

S pong have extrapolated this information from the recent Jim Merrick interview which was posted on this very forum yesterday. There seems to be a grain of truth, but I seriously doubt they know anything more than we do.

Yea, this isn't happening unless there is some kind of show or conference before the end of the year.

I mean, why launch a system without any games?

To be fair, we haven't seen real, tangible, playable software yet on either of the two systems. If you were going to make an argument for which one is more likely to be able to launch first, the two things you should look at are (1) the ease of manufacture and (2) the time required for software development.

Revolution is obviously going to have both advantages over the cutting-edge (but also asymmetrical SPE'd) PS3. Also, I can't help but shake the belief that Sony's pulling the exact same card they did during the Dreamcast's launch that they'd be just 6 months behind (and they were a year behind in each territory).

I wouldn't say Sony has no chance but to attempt a global launch. The fact that Europe waited like patient virgins before hopping on the PSP bandwagon (after the rest of the world was already out of new software) proves that Sony has a certain amount of capital in NA and EU to spend with fans. Also, the Japanese early adopters are much more willing to be gouged, at least traditionally in the case of Sony's consoles. Who knows, after the game industry has continued to recess here.

But..but...you can swing it like a baseball bat!!!

rev lunch in JUne seams plausable, one nintendo said countless times rev full unveiling will be by years end,

2 nintendo will be at CES next Jan, so more rev info.

# nintendo will be at GDC and of Course E3 next year, to me there is nothing better than lucnhing a console after two of the years major gaming conferences. wny? the games are fresh in peopples minds and by that ime Nintnedo will hav lot to offer.

June might happen for Japan, but I doubt a worldwide release then. Unlike Sony though, Nintendo should be able to launch in all territories within a few months.

june is possible for wordwide, heck the us got ds first , so why can the do it the same way, rev lunches in 2 week of june in Us, next week in Japan and 3 weeks after us lunch in Euro

Guys just because no games have been shown doesn't mean there are no games. I'm willing to bet there are some that are pretty deep into development. Nintendo themselves said they are holding back on showing the games for a reason (there are more surprises to be had). Who know's, maybe we'll get some decent info before the years end. My bet is around the 360 launch to take some of the limelight away from microsoft. :)

Although SP**G has been unable to clarify the Revolution launch price point with anything near the same accuracy as we have its launch date, a tag of $200 for the US, €300 in mainland Europe, and £200 in the UK is a near certainty.

What are they smoking? Yes, consoles are more expensive in Europe, but not like $200 vs. $356 or $362. If it is $200 in the US it is is going to be 200 Euro in EU and something like 139 GBP in the UK.

Very hard to believe, I agree. Still, S*pong's rep isn't entirely deserved. They were the first to report the Zelda delay, for one.

Can anyone name the big fuck-ups that gave S*pong the rep it enjoys today?

It will release right after the next-generation Gameboy but before MS buys Capcom. Then the loch ness monster will eat them all.

Could someone explain to me why releasing the Rev at the same time as PS3 would be a bad thing? What would be the best launch date for the rev to maximize early adopter sales? How does June benefit Nintendo in the context of not "competing?"

well when you think of it makes sense.

-Gamecube has no big game coming in 2006 except for Zelda. That game alone won be enough keep the GC alive for 12 more months.
- Well since the GC is about dead, why would Nintendo want it to sell poorly for another 12 months? Roll out next-gen faster.
- If they roll out Zelda in early may, then it could sell for both GC and Revolution.

That said, I choose NOT to believe s pong but a june launch would be fantastic!

Worked for the GBC/GBA shift. Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, Pokemon Crystal and Dragon Warrior III all got a nice bump from new GBA owners looking for something "deeper" to play.

Same thing with Dragon Quest VII on PS2 in Japan. In fact, the more I think about it, the more likely it seems for Nintendo to push TWW as a "transition" game.

Yeah but what will be the games for the Rev? There's almost no game announced and it's not even a year away.
Even the PS3 looks dry and we know about some games already.

yeah exactly. They even had that bonus function on OoA and OoS if you bought a GBA. Maybe they will do the same for TP?

-New Super Smash Bros

...announced publishers...

-Activision
-Electronic Arts
