Serves as a reminder that this isn't just a hardware war, but also an information war on multiple layers.

Yeah, russian news sites are completely different to uks/west.

They are just not telling the truth, complete fiction.

Dictators are afraid of Starlink, which is good. The tech has amazing potential to provide "free", uncensored information to anyone, anywhere, making it easier to rise up against oppression.

His intellect, braintrust and resources appear properly directed here. American private and national interests represented.

This whole "conflict" is slowly but surely escalating. Hopefully things don't get out of hands more than they already have...🙁

Elon is showing the ineptness of government.

Buckle up because food and oil will become scarce because the US and the west did everything to make this conflict happen.

I like how Musk says to do something that will negatively impact his other country, for the good of mankind.

Russia is an aggressor in this conflict but the US and West have blood on their hands too. Why else did Putin say "peace keeping mission". It is literally the same excuse the US uses. How can one be ok and the other not?
While I agree with the sentiment, I think this just turns into whataboutism, and the better approach is to dedicate your own thread to raising awareness of the west's transgressions, instead of trying to shoehorn it into this very valid thread. I don't think there's any reason people need to be distracted from the major conflict that is fresh and ongoing. It's what's relevant right now.

An election.
That's an oversimplification:

…the election coincided with the biggest disruption the global supply chain has ever experienced. When oil goes to $0 a barrel like it did, you tend to see companies stop pumping it

You're not telling me anything I don't already know.

But I'm supposed to, what, read everything on that website and watch your video without any idea what it contains?

No, thanks.

I was against the war in Iraq. I've been against much of what the US was involved in militarily over the past 20 years. I've seen footage of the Ukraine shelling and its aftermath and instantly thought about what we did to Baghdad and parts of Syria. I get it.

But to say the US did everything to make this conflict happen? Nonsense. Russia's history is just as sordid, if not arguably worse than ours. They're just as power-hungry, just as militaristic, only nowhere near as capable.

To say this is the work of the US, or the West, whilst absolving Russia of any culpability is, well, too stupid to warrant a response.

I said ineptness of government. Not one or the other. They all are all to blame and I think it is important distinction that instead of looking at this like a vacuum there are events that lead to this current conflict.

The fact Russia said "peace keeping" is a troll on the west.

You said, "the US and the west did everything to make this conflict happen."

Your words.

And that, by inference, suggests that Russia did nothing, since the US and west "did everything".

So, that's what I'm replying to.

And while it is true that both sides have blood on their hands and no conflict exists in a vacuum, that doesn't mean that everyone is equally culpable when one of them is an asshole.

In this case, Russia is in the wrong, and what they are doing is absolutely reprehensible, previous conduct of the US or any other western nation notwithstanding.

B&T get on that key.

I love how people screech "but we are a net exporter" while ignoring that the whole NATO alliance actually depends on foreign entities such as Russia for oil and this was a flaw detected years ago, but everybody went for the optics and chose to ignore a potential conflict with Rusia.

Ukraine will get more Starlink terminals to keep communication open.

In before Putin calls this equivalent to a declaration of war by SpaceX.

Elon might be an asshole, but he's the kind you want on your side. Glad to see he's not budging to external pressures in order to keep an open internet
