Spain to crack down on videogame 'loot boxes' blamed for pathological behaviour

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Spain is set to become the first European country to have a law regulating the use of so-called loot boxes in videogames, aiming to avoid "thoughtless, compulsive or even pathological" consumer behaviour, the government said on Wednesday.

Looks like the biggest talking points / resolutions they're looking for are:
  • Having to prove you are an adult with an ID in order to access these games or parts of these games with loot.
  • Showing from the start the actual chance of receiving an item
  • Having the chance of blocking, either temporarily or indefinitely, every single loot box or "chance" payment just like you can "ban yourself" from casinos or betting sites.

Great. Agreed on all points. Lootboxes are the most disgusting thing in the industry now, but if "adults" want them go right ahead. They should not be freely available to children/minors. Just like kids can't gamble in a casino, the option should not even exist in E and T rated games. Heck, children aren't even allowed in most casinos in the USA. The game floors are gated off, typically with bouncers blocking entry to minors.

Lootboxes, just like gambling are literally designed to be as enticing and addicting as possible by exploiting our worst human behaviors.

Lootbox should be regulated and limited worldwide, I think that countries should limit the maximum money a user can expend in a game (something like 200 bucks or so)

Now that's a type of regulations I can agree with, they're not prohibiting, just putting some walls to stupid parents
