Spectator with sign causes massive Tour De France pile up

Nobody_Important

“Aww, it’s so...average,” she said to him in a cold brick of passion
Yeah, obviously there's dickhead bikers but the far bigger group of overall shitbags are truck owners and motorcycle riders. wAtCh fOr MoToRcYcLeS they have plastered all over their minivan and then when it's time to ride their neon-colored shitty Suzuki they're all over the fucking place, doing 100+ mph down roads with 45mph speed limits, swerving in and out of lanes without using their turn signals, doing the "single lane swerve" where they go from the left side of their lane to the right side back and forth, rolling through stop signs and stop lights, going on the shoulder of the road to cut past everyone. Lookin dumb af with that green mohawk fiber coming out of the top of their helmet.

Did a motorcycle rider kick your grandma or something? Or maybe a neighbor with a really loud bike?

Good lord lol

People don't take responsibility for their actions any more. Worst of all, you have similar minded people who jump to their defence.

- It's not like she didn't know where she was
- Reducing it to "just a girl holding a sign" shows that you have limited brain capacity
- Just because you don't like or understand something doesn't give you the right to destroy or disrupt it and then use that as an excuse.

This person is up there with people who txt and drive, people who sue companies for spilling hot coffee on themselves and people who blame McDonald's because eating it every day made them the size of a small house. You were on the fucking road, during the world's biggest and most famous cycling event, trying to get on TV and you fucked up. Own it and take fucking responsibility.

It's a girl holding a sign, not someone with a billy club smashing up a house. An equivalent analogy would be me riding a bike around the neighborhood, and my neighbor doing something innocuous too close to the street (mowing, playing ball), unintentionally causes me to crash. Yeah, I'd be fine with a lawn cut or $20. A gust of wind, puddle of animal piss, or bird shitting on their face are more likely to take these guys out than a girl with a Grandma sign. Reckless and out of control, come'on man. This was an accident like any of the other numerous wipeouts they'll encounter in the race, are they gonna sue and imprison the rider that caused the later pile up for peddling too much? Pretty sure they don't pay for bikes or any gear, it's presumably all sponsored.
Big difference is that the spectator knows it's a giant crowd of Tour de France bikers speeding down a crowded street in a competition and she purposely butted into the lane for laughs and self promotion. And then bolted when it happened.

Your example is one of pure accident and nothing on the line.

Your example related to the incident is really more like your neighbour sees you riding down the street and then purposely gets close to the curb and sticks his leg out while doing a selfie. And after you crash, he runs into his house and locks the door.

Why should she not be held responsible? She caused injury to others by her actions. What is the defense here?
1. It was an unfortunate accident
2. The event is poorly organized and has had many instances of crowds causing cyclists harm
3. Corporations are trying to sue this person into oblivion effectively ruining their life forever
4. Internet mob is pissed and wants to get their rocks off celebrating this persons life getting destroyed for an accident. I like to see these kinds of people get disappointed

1. many accidents happen all the time. Not all cause injury to others. I don't see why that should matter.
2. What other incidents at this race caused bodily harm?
3. Don't know about the corpo stuff
4. No one here is wanting their life "destroyed" that I've seen. Only that she take some responsibility and whatever punishment the law states.

I don't understand how they think they know the woman is German and that she got on a flight, but she is also somehow untraceable.
This.
This is what I don't get.

Oh, we don't know who this person is, or where they went, but they already fled the country, and they're German.
This means you have a pretty good idea who this person is....jeeeeez

From various articles:
However, French publication Ouest-France reported the woman, who is believed to be German, got on a flight and is untraceable, according to CBS Sports.
Use better words. Clearly you did enough 'tracing' to state they're German and flew out of the country.

What you call single lane swerve endangers nobody and is often the result of avoiding tar snakes or road irregularities which are well known to cause accidents in motorcycles.

I swear, Americans have an irrational hate for anybody using anything but a car for transportation.

I hope they never find her. Bunch of grown men riding children's toys to fellate their ego's in an entertainment competition trying to ruin the life of a silly girl holding a Grandma and Grandpa sign can go fuck themselves.

this is the correct take. Biking isnt even a real sports its like the olympics shit that people get exicted for while they wait for the next episode of days of our lives to come on at 1pm. Fuck them bikers. RUN GIRL!

Tour de France Deputy Director Pierre-Yves Thouault said the tour would take legal action against the woman, saying “We are suing this woman who behaved so badly. We are doing this so that the tiny minority of people who do this do not spoil the show for everyone,” he told AFP news agency.

Cool. Now, what about the rest of it? If you cause an accident in a car your insurance goes up. That's with no one getting hurt.

You forgot he part where he then lit up a cig with a 1000$ bill and went back on his yacht on the coast of france

Wrong. I guess the laws in Dickhole Alabama may be different but in most civilized parts of the world a cyclist is permitted to use most roads. Cycle lane or not.
Lol. Well here in the greater Seattle area, it's actually illegal to drive in the motorized vehicle lane when there's a bike lane, so, while I can't speak for Dickhole Alabama, I can say this again:

Ahem......

Fuck em.

It's not even that, the court will probably laugh in his face and point out that if you don't properly secure the event this is what you get. France is not America, you cannot just throw lawsuits around.

Except it's not clear the girl is aware the race has even started (that appears to be a starting line or checkpoint in the background), she certainly has no idea they've made it to her, or that she's blocking part of their direct path (she's on the side of the road, not in the middle). It would be like your neighbor seeing you ride off (knowing you'll be coming back by), but obviously knows it's incredibly unlikely his mowing or ballin would cause you to crash your bicycle, which then explodes, takes out 3 neighboring houses, and burns down 10 acres of surrounding woodland. When that scene is met with the rest of the neighborhood sprinting to the incident gasping and screaming as News vans pull up and these guys have got their Twitters pulled up taking pictures, of course anyone with a functional brain is going to GTFO.

These bike riders hitting a small rock in the middle of the road is an unfortunate accident.

Stepping almost a meter into the road oblivious to an oncoming horde of cyclists just to get your face on TV is NOT an accident.

So the lead camera guy pointing back at the race randomly films empty road while driving? Don't be a moron. As soon as you see the camera leading the pack you know what's coming.

Anyway the longer she leaves it, the more severe the punishment will likely be. She's not going to go to jail or get fined €15000. She will get a wrist slap, and probably a €1000 - €3000 fine which is fine.

The fact there was a quick, clean exit and absolutely no recognition by anyone still makes me think this is a stunt by some 'zany' click bait fail/prank site.

Arrested.

LOL! Good. Not saying she needs to go to jail for life, but there needs to be some sort of justice for someone being so stupid.

Get your facts right. She's not even standing in the road. Her sign extends into the road, but she is oblivious that her sign is even in the way of the oncoming riders. She was completely taken by surprise, and anyone with half a brain would have bolted and skipped town before the mob could get its hands on her. The fact that the mob wants to ruin her is just further proof that she is totally in the right to go into hiding. She needs to strike a deal with her government to handle this incident and protect her, because y'all are batshit crazy and it's obvious.

It's evident from the video she has no idea there are riders heading straight for her. She's right on the side of the road, and it would be reasonable to think that riders would not be right up against the very edge of the road. I certainly wouldn't place myself so close to the edge. The quick clean exit is just a no brainer. If it had been you who somehow caused this accident on a worldwide televised event, you would want to disappear from existence too. It's almost surprising that she didn't immediately go kill herself. She will live with this incident the rest of her life. Endless ridicule and shame. All over a moment of honest ignorance. People have thoughtlessly interfered with baseballs still in play during the World Series -- that's what happens when fans can get into the field of play though, and I wouldn't want it prevented on account of that either. Sometimes spectators get involved in the worst way -- that just makes it more fun.

No one wants to ruin her life, Quit being dramatic little bitches.

Take responsibility for your actions and clear negligence. Guess what ! SHE HAS taken responsibility by turning her self in.

If no other record i suspect Probation and Community Service are in her future.

You are surprised she did not kill her self? That's insane, Sounds like Projection.

She was Negligent, its very clear.

She needs to be responsible , but its not that big of a deal in the grand scene of things.

Depends on the person.

If someone causes a huge car crash, some people bolt. Hit and run. Most people stick around.

She's a hit and runner and only turned herself in due to pressure and the heat was on with a big search as the crash happened 3 days ago.

Watch any slow moving road event like the marathon. You see a car with a camera that passes you focused backwards, then you know what's coming - also known as 'get the camera ready' . Unless you are an unaware narcissistic moron trying to get on TV. It also doesn't matter if she is on the side/edge of the road if she is holding a placard that obstructs a third of the carriageway.....she did something stupid and walked off. Who knows? If she had stayed and made sure the cyclists were OK the reaction would not be as bad. She made poor decision after poor decision and will be held accountable for it. It's not a reflection on her as a person, just an open/shut case on being stupid. Take the life lesson and move on.

Watch the wrc and see how many spectators think it's cool to walk out in the middle of the road oblivious to everything.

Well, you both are right about one thing. If I caused a bunch of crashes and injuries, my ass would be out there checking on every one of them as best I can while apologizing for my stupid error. It would be my sweat and tears trying to make it right ahead of anyone else's. But that just seems to be the kind of people we ( you, you, and me) are.

I don't like people who hit and run, but I don't hate them for it. They're just of a weaker character. Call it a problem with their brain I guess.

It's very unlikely. There is a motorcade before and after the cyclists.
There is a car to tell everyone to stay clear of the road in multiple language and policemen on motorbikes that make sure no one is on the road.
So she deliberately stayed on the side , avoid the policemen and then went with her sign to be seen by the camera.

They can't install barrier on a 160 Miles course that's just defeat the whole purpose of the event which is to travel through France

So are you saying that you all believe she deliberately caused a huge pile up and that this was her goal? The definition of an accident is getting an unintended or unforeseen event. Some in this thread make it seem as though she willfully caused this with the desired outcome being a huge crash.

She didn't do it deliberately but this is the definition of reckless endangerment.
She put herself and a bunch of innocent cyclist at risk even if it wasn't her goal.

It was not "an accident" but a Willful violation of the rules that were layed out by the Event organisers.

  • Reckless endangerment: A person commits the crime of reckless endangerment if the person recklessly engages in conduct which creates substantial jeopardy of severe corporeal trauma to another person. “Reckless” conduct is conduct that exhibits a culpable disregard of foreseeable consequences to others from the act or omission involved. The accused need not intentionally cause resulting harm. The ultimate question is whether, under all of the circumstances, the accused's demeanor was of that heedless nature that made it actually or imminently dangerous to the rights or safety of others.

I think the wind accidently blew her over to the roadside and dangerously close to the cyclist with an outstretched arm almost a meter into the road and in the path of the oncoming cyclist.

It was all just an accident. This woman had no control over where her body ended up being😂😂😂
