Spectator with sign causes massive Tour De France pile up

She didn't do it deliberately but this is the definition of reckless endangerment.
She put herself and a bunch of innocent cyclist at risk even if it wasn't her goal.

It was not "an accident" but a Willful violation of the rules that were layed out by the Event organisers.

There's no arguing that she willfully violated the rules. Calls for jail time seem overly harsh, however suing her seems a prudent thing to do. As punishment, she should be required to ride a motor bike ahead of future Tour de France racers. She can wield a sign for her grandparents while yelling for everyone to clear the road. :messenger_smirking:

I think the wind accidently blew her over to the roadside and dangerously close to the cyclist with an outstretched arm almost a meter into the road and in the path of the oncoming cyclist.

It was all just an accident. This woman had no control over where her body ended up being😂😂😂

Right, and when people take their eyes off the road for a couple of seconds, they don't have accidents. They willfully veer from their lanes and crash, don't they?

So are you saying that you all believe she deliberately caused a huge pile up and that this was her goal? The definition of an accident is getting an unintended or unforeseen event. Some in this thread make it seem as though she willfully caused this with the desired outcome being a huge crash.

The witch hunt for this is so pathetic, typical dumbass internet mob mentality.

People who couldn't care less about this event are losing their minds and calling for her to get jailed and keep paying fines for the rest of her life.

Murderers and rapists don't get this level of hate lol.

Tour de France covers more than 3 500km, how do you expect to secure all of that?
I think it's possible to do a better job selecting potentially dangerous parts of the stages, like where the cyclists are driving slower (making the spectators bolder in stepping in their way), where large groups of people have gathered in previous years or where the road is narrow and the peleton has to travel very tight with very little room for maneuver.

Le tour dropped it's lawsuit against her.

We all hate these fans, but it's not like they go there with a plan to do something like that

"We are withdrawing our complaint," Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme said, according to Reuters. "This story has been blown out of proportion, but we wish to remind everyone of the safety rules on the race.

So much for the totally overblown "witch hunt" and "mob mentality" rhetoric...

She couldn't see the cyclists, but they could see her sign. Really not sure who they can blame other than the organisers letting people stand to close to the road.

If being stupid was a crime prisons would cover 50% of the world.

Okay so do those bike not turn? Her sign was in the way but the guy could see it and just ran into it like a fucking retard. Oh and before someone says he couldn't then maybe don't race on a road thats the width of my TV.
The peloton is a large mass of riders shoulder-to-shoulder, and wheel-to-wheel. The rider who went down was probably looking down, until the last moment. Even if he tried to jink or slow, he would just cause a pileup, as the group moves together. It works because the riders behind have faith in the guys in front to negotiate the course intelligently, and that the race organizers have secured safe travel for them.

There's a reason there is this much outrage at the woman. This isn't supposed to happen. Fans have an obligation to keep the course clear for the riders. This lady didn't. We shouldn't be putting the onus on riders to avoid a numpty who was not supposed to be in their path.

LAVAL, France, June 30 (Reuters) - The spectator who caused a massive pile-up during the first stage of the Tour de France has been arrested after presenting herself at a police station, a source close to the investigation told Reuters on Saturday.

The spectator, a 30-year-old French woman, is in custodyat a police station in Landerneau, Brittany, the northwest French region where the Tour de France, the world's biggest cycling event, held its first four stages.

The spectator is accused of involuntarily causing injury and putting the life of others at risk.
So she was french all along, not a sneaky German?

I hope the French make a formal apology to Germany, they ain't never done anything wrong and the French are always bullying them.

Not only is making a super out of place "Go Grandpa Grandma" placard one of the most inane sentences ever created

That's all I have for now. This has to be one of THE douchiest, most clueless people of the last 500 years

pretty sure the sign said something different originally lol
Can't make a movie like that nowadays. Now that I think about it, that scene was funny af. Imagine being the guy who had to wear the original sign during the BLM protest or else some terrorist was gonna blow up a school.
