Spectre's opening theme/intro is so terrible. Falsetto, tentacle porn, Cthulhu?

I hate this movie. I hate it a lot. But I should have realized how sucky it would have been when I saw this intro for the first time.

It's so fucking weird, and that's a statement considering some of the Bond openings.

- Shitty Sam Smith falsetto track that just sounds like he's whining

- Creepy ass tentacles surrounding the sexy ladies. Was this dude into freaky hentai shit when he was making the opening sequence?

- And then the super realistic Octopus that turns into a skull with eyes. Like, that's some Lovecraft shit.

- Random shirtless Bond at the end. What?

- Throwing in dead people here and there, shoehorning Le Chiffre and M. I feel like they wanted to make it connect but it felt more fan service.

This is a terrible opening. It's the worst of all the Modern Bond openings, that's for sure.

Casino Royale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1AMUmkj-ck

That's one of the best of all time, yo. Fucking badass song, really cool artistic style.

Quantum of Solace: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqmEHsoUot8

I'm not a fan of this song, no. But this opening is great just cause it has such a feeling of energy, and again, the art style is really cool. Sure, it's blue and orange, but it works!

Skyfall: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4gdhsVKTcs

See, Skyfall's opening is how you do a more emotional and darker opening. An amazing track, a really cool concept (like walking through the afterlife), and it takes a step back towards a more classic Bond intro, but modernized, really operatic and cool.

And then you get the fucking Spectre opening. Spectre has a lot of problems, but man, does that opening suck.

They should have used Lana Del Rey's submission at the very least: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn3FOgHqw1c

Was sitting beside a family when I saw it -- they had two kids around age 8 -10 by the looks of it. Personally not that big of a deal for me, but I glanced at the dad a bit during the intro and he looked pretty nervous haha

The problem with people doing these mashups are that the intros are strictly tailored to what ended up being the official song.

Fucking love Radiohead though.

God the Radiohead is so fucking good. I'm sure Sam Mendes wanted to use it but Paramount or whoever was like "It's weird. Call Sam god damn Smith." I hate things. I'm drunk but I stand by this statement.

I prefer the Radiohead Spectre song, and I'm glad I listened to that version first. The official song is bollocks.

That was my favorite OP out of all of those. Only one I thought was legit cool.
Skyfall and Quantum's were OK.
Casino Royale I thought was terrible. Not a fan of the art at all.

As for the movies though, I feel all of them were highly forgettable.

The Skull/Octopus thing is SPECTRE's logo (the criminal organization, not the movie). Has been true since the early 1960's.

Also won him an Oscar...

Adele won the Oscar for Skyfall too.

I thought the film was disappointing to be sure, but I didn't mind the opening titles much. I like the song fine, the visuals are just whatever. The Quantum of Solace one I do strongly dislike though, terrible song choice. Skyfall's opening titles are great.

Shirley Bassey > * though

I thought it was beautiful, me and my friends loved it when it played in theaters, lol

It was all downhill after that though; terrible film.

I recently marathoned the entire 007 movie franchise. The vast majority of them are not very good movies IMO. By and large they are all too long and are needlessly complicated and formulaic. The flaws really pop out when you watch them all back to back.

As far as I'm concerned everybody else has been trying to play catch-up to Cornell on Casino Royale. He fucking killed it and it's probably the first and only Bond song I've put on a playlist.

There was a James Bond movie with the name Spectre?... lol.... not laughing at the name, I seem to be so far out of the loop that I didn't even hear /see about that one.

count me in with team "utterly underwhelmed by the film, pretty okay with the intro"

"the octopus turning skullfaced man with human eyes" is kinda dorky, though - i give you that.

edit: and of course i'm team "Casino Royale best (modern?) Bond" - the whole package, from theme song, to villain, to testicular torture.

It's general rule of thumb that each Bond gets two good movies (except Dalton for obvious reasons). And the rest range from passable to stupidly fun to just stupid crap.

Personally I dislike all of Moore's.

Best Bond song is A View To A Kill by Duran Duran!

It's certainly no Goldfinger. Goldfinger in my opinion is the most "Bond" song by a million miles.

Shirley Bassey has still yet to be topped as the best bond singer imo.

Also, maybe I'm weird, but I loved Spectre a hell of a lot more than anything since probably Goldeneye.

For Your Eyes Only is probably my favourite Moore film, very underrated imo.

As far as two good movies, I don't know. I think Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball are all good/great. Lazenby of course only got the one good film. Brosnan, well, one was good, one was sorta-good (Tomorrow Never Dies), one was bad, one was atrocious. Craig got two good ones though, I'll give you that.

I just can't believe that dire song won an award. I felt more violated having to listen to that dirge than tentacles could ever make me feel.
