With GTAIV, GTAV & RDR2, once they announced a specific date, I believe it stuck. Before that final delay they'd only announced rough time periods (years/quarters/seasons). RDR1 was almost the same with exception to a month bump at the end.
So the only time they've ever delayed after a specific date was given, it was by just a month; and that was three games back.

History tells us it could potentially be delayed. This is no Nostradamus or "inside info," it's patterned behavior for Rockstar. I'd prefer it if they skipped PS5 altogether rather than launching at the tail end of the generation having to make technological compromises they wouldn't need to make with PS6. Just launch day one on PS6 and give us 15 years of live-service SP/MP glory for the entire next generation.

In a new report for Bloomberg, industry expert and analyst Jason Schreier has commented on the recent GTA 6 delay and why developers and publishers are still stressed about its new release date.
Schreier says other companies could delay again to miss the new May 2026 release date, but then GTA 6 could be delayed again.
100% this is being delayed again until holidays 2026(Nov-Dec).

My sources are telling me that the game will come out at some point. I'd even suggest that there will be a PC version and a next gen version later on. You can quote me on that, my track record is really good.

I think other devs just needs to chill the hell out. Like obviously yeah you don't want to release on the exact same day or week or whatever, but a good game is a good game. If your game is awesome and people want to play it, they aren't gonna skip out cause GTA6 is coming out in 6 weeks, or cause they bought GTA6 two months ago. This industry moves so fast it'll already be old news by summer 2026 (assuming it comes out in May) and everyone will have moved on to the next thing anyways.

Even if it is a reach and no source, it's still news and threadworthy, IMO. This is not GAF's opinion and he's an insider with some knowledge beyond an informed gamer. Is it baseless speculation? Sure, but it's different from the GAF poll from a couple weeks ago and just strengthens the majority's opinion that it gets delayed again. Personally, I didn't think much of GAF's cynicism towards May 26 release, but am now more convinced of the delay because of Schrier.

Sadly it can totally happen. I mean for the longest time it seemed end of this year was very possible, with Strauss Zelnick at every opportunity saying it was a lock for late this year, but always a small chance of slippage. And then we find out per Jason Schreier that Rockstar devs apparently never believed in 2025 release.
Also, wasn't it initially planned for last year? Sheesh man. Truly wish more publishers would announce and release their game like BGS did with Fallout 4, or Split Fiction. But it is what it is, nothing we can do about it.

A game as massive as GTA will release when it's ready, if it ain't ready by May it'll be bumped until it's perfect, this game is gonna be the biggest entertainment release of all time, blowing records out of the water, it'll be in the mainstream news cycles and everyone's granny will be talking about it ffs, R* will not have this game release as anything other than a perfect 10/10 out the gate, i hope we get it in May but i expect to be playing it around the end of the year tbh

Any game coming out in 2026 (especially third party and non-Nintendo games) is going to get butt fucked by GTA6.
If RDR2 took 200+ hours to complete 100%, then I can't even begin to imagine how long GTA6 will take. And then there is the whole new online universe to get lost in after that.
PS5 is going to become a GTA box for a lot of people, especially those of us who no longer have the free time to bounce from game to game.

I'm just not sure why people think the whole industry might as well shut down for months around this one coming out. I don't remember people being this hysterical around GTA5 or 4, like yeah there was big time hype but I don't think anyone was expecting the second coming like this is hyped up to be.
We've literally just seen this on a smaller scale two weeks ago when everyone online said "Oh damn, Oblivion remastered shadow dropped, Clair Obscur is SCREWED" yet Clair Obscur has been very successful as well. The game industry is so huge and people are very invested, if a game is good and people want to play it, it doesn't really matter what else is coming out.
