I know, right? It would've confused the shit out of me if i were a kid. There were literally like 6 plots going on at the same time. The first 20 minutes is scene after scene of plot introduction.:lol

the first time i saw it i didnt understand wtf happened at all. all that business talk between Royalton and the Japanese dude was confusing lol.

Im just wanting the W Bros to get on Superman. Direct it, too, rather than just produce.

That initial news had me excited at the possibilities, but my hopes now lie with the fact that the live-action AKIRA is now in turnaround. I can only pray that somehow, seeing how Warners own the rights, that they and/or Joel Silver connect the dots between that project and the Wachowskis. That project would be something truly special coming from them - given their filmography and that it was their induction to anime like many, it seems like the perfect fit.

movie of the forever

okay not really but it's fucking awesome and it's nice to see people turning around on it.

BTW the Wachowskis directing/writing Akira would be PERFECT for them. Couldn't find a better match. Sorry Gary. :P I also hope they don't waste their time with Superman.

cuz of GAF, I watched this movie.

I'm actually impressed. There r some silly kid stuff for the kids, but the fx during the races were awesome.

also how they stitched the fiji scene and final scene with the dialogue was good

OK I just finished watching it for the first time and it was awesome. The ending was fucking amazing. Totally did Speed Racer justice.

This was such an awesome movie. I don't remember if the first time I saw it, I had lowered expectations because of the ridiculously unanimous bad reviews, which probably would have added to my enjoyment, being completely caught off guard. But I watched it again recently and it definitely held up.

I'm sticking this in the Observe & Report folder where GAF loves this movie for absolutely no reason that I can see, whatsoever. Unless watching it in Blu Ray changes the horrible acting, I can't understand why you all love this movie.

don't include me please

Oh and the soundtrack is also one of the best in recent memory. Always bet on Giacchino.

Nothing wrong with the acting in Speed Racer.

Really, I don't understand what people's deal is with the acting. Realistically, what do people want from a movie of SPEED RACER? Certainly not anything that this movie was lacking.

Did the people criticizing the acting SEE John Goodman's monologue toward the end? Seriously, the acting in this movie is not only solid; it's actually pretty damn good from everybody but the kid.

Oh my god yes. I played that shit all day, every day, for about 6 months, lol. I absolutely loved the movie. Never got to see it on the big screen, and only watched it on my poor SDTV in my bedroom, but even then, holy crap. Not only were the visuals amazing and completely different compared to anything else out there, but I really liked how they fit the conflict with the family members into it as well. I just had an excellent time watching the film, and hopefully I can pick up the Blu-ray when I get some extra cash.

I saw Speed Racer opening weekend, avoiding the reviews, and the negative reviews honestly shocked me.

I can see why people don't like un-ironic, un-meta straight enthisiastic kid-friendly movies, but that doesn't make them *bad*.

I even liked the Spridle and Chim-Chim parts, except the candy/drug trip.

Bump.

I just watched it for the second time, and it managed to get even better. What really jumped out at me was just how well-choreographed the races were; I knew that they were awesome the first time, but the second watch let me see just how elaborate and well-conceived everything was.

In addition, I actually teared up a few times (with Pops's speech to Speed toward the end getting the biggest reaction from me).

It really is a great movie. I was lucky enough to watch it on blu-ray the first time and it was eye-meltingly good looking.

The races are all really awesome. Especially the last one with the voice over at the end of it. And when he crosses the finish line and the checkered pattern fills the screen? So cool. I had a kind of slack-jawed grin while watching it.

Aside from the "reboot" scene, the opening 20 minutes has got to be my favorite part of the movie. Its so amazingly complex and well put together.

Seriously. It distilled about 20 separate plot lines in a couple minutes flat.:lol It was like watching a TV seeason review clip show, but incredibly well done.

Suffered from retro Matrix Revolutions hate. This movie was still far too early for most film fans to forgive the Wachowiskis for the Matrix sequels. :lol Great fun flick though and quite moving at times. Matthew Fox was great, hopefully we'll see more of him on the big screen when Lost finishes.

ooh see the wording confused me. Thought you meant you loved the first 20 minutes despite some reboot scene. Yes that final half of the race was amazing.

Sorry. I meant that my favorite scene is the reboot scene, followed closely by the opening scenes.

I just rewatched this movie for the first time since I saw it in theaters. Back in 2008 it was my second favorite film that year behind TDK. I think it's number 1 now. I watch movies all the damn time, so for a film to really just grab me like this is a rare treat. It's like I'm mainlining pure, distilled joy into my veins when I watch it.

I hate that it did so poorly upon release, we need more films like this.

I watched this with some friends about 3 weeks ago. None of them wanted to watch it but I forced them too under the guise of "it looks real cool".

They were all jumping up and down at the end of the movie like little kids shouting.

Movie is awesome.

Fuck the haters.

This is going to sound like a really strange comparison but I almost get the same kind of adrenaline rush watching the races in Speed Racer (especially the end) as I do the football games on Friday Night Lights. And no, it's not just because Scott Porter is in both.

I ordered this on Cyber Monday. I have never seen it before. I always avoided it due to bad rep. On Thursday night though I will give it a spin. Hopefully the Visuals will keep me interested. GAF has a wide range of opinions. I am going to try and enjoy it for what it is.

I will report back.

Cool, a speed racer bump! I watched this again the other week with my GF who was watching it for the first time. It didn't go down that well. She just found it so ridiculous and I can definitely see her POV.

Movies still awesome though.

Good, you answered my next question. Sounds Like I should watch this without her. I find that she doesn't respond to fantasy too much. It has to be a movie with dark deep seeded reality for her to enjoy.

I still have goosebumps

It hurts because this movie is absolutely gorgeous and perfectly crafted technically, it's just that the acting is so horrendously stiff that it's a rollercoaster between boner and flaccid.

Oh and the Wachowski need to learn how to vary how they shoot portrait/faces once in a while... (hey guys, let's crop the top of the picture right below the hair line like they said in movie school). Once you know their directing tricks, it all becomes a little too cliche because they really never deviate from them except in CG shots :-\

Don't give two shits about the plot, most of it could be cut right out.

But my god, the racing. The insanity. The fight scenes.

Hilarious, amazing and beautiful.

Also, "more like a nonja".
