Spider-Man 2 will have Ray tracing in 30fps, 40fps, and 60fps

Insomniac truly are the GOATs 😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥

Persecution complex is so weird to me, you can't have honest conversation about games and how devs utilize new algos for raytracing.

Alright for those who might be interested in some details, this is new hot shit in the industry and that's why we are going to see more RT titles even from lesser teams.

Acoustics | Free Full-Text | An Iterative Ray Tracing Algorithm to Increase Simulation Speed While Maintaining Overall Precision (mdpi.com)

This is the shit currently basically all core devs in team where I am talking about this shit.

We are in for a treat, happy to see Insomniac always on that edge of technology.

Also I didn't like Spiderman 2 showing one bit, but I can appreciate what goes into it.

Do people really choose 40fps over 60?

Probably the same people who only use toilet paper to clean themselves.

When it comes to Insomniac games, yes. They reduce other vfx outside of resolution when scaling between visual modes. Also their motion blur effect, which is the best in the business, looks better at lower framerate.

As always, it depends on the game/developer. Good news is Insomniac has a choice for all persuasions.

Yeah, Insomniac's upscaller is excellent

I still noticed the difference on a 1080p 21' monitor going from upscaled 4K to 4K, but I'm a graphic whore
Insomniac have the best reconstruction tech on consoles. They also reconstruct RT reflections using CBR. They are leading the whole industry with console level RT right now.

And Alex kept the FUD going even after the Cerny video. Wasn't until they launched, when they STFU.
I remember when Insomniac posted the first in game picture of Miles Morales with ray-traced reflections, and Alex Bugaga implied that the reflections weren't ray-traced.

He basically said to keep expectations in check, which on consoles... you need too cause console raytracing is fairly limited.

Didn't sound like they were going to have the 40fps mode at launch from a few weeks back. 40fps it is then! Playing it on the Qled though.

Insomniac is at another level, loads on the fly, 60 frames and RT (in an open world full of windows where you move at all costs...), great graphics and top playable sequences, and people doubting them...

Is this the first PS5 generation only title to have RT all around? I know that metro has RT too but that's on PS4.

Immortals of Aveum only has one mode with RT. I think Remnant 2 is the same. There might be a few more I can't recall right now.

This is awesome, it'll be interesting to see who far they're able to push RT in the various modes. Cause simply saying "it has ray tracing" could mean many things.

"[...] What we feel like [...]" = translating might not be what you expect.
Other companies "felt" some features, but the gamers didnt "felt" the same.

Oh dear, I'm starting to get caught up in the hype.

Didn't expect Insomniac to carry PS5 this gen. 😯
They really aren't, though. They've simply been the one with the most in-house releases. Can't dismiss Horizon, God of War, etc... because Insomniac is on their A game. Simply put, games are carrying the PS5, like all other PlayStations before it.

Good to have options.

In console gaming you'll always have the high fidelity 30 fps crew and the lower visuals 60 fps gang. Let gamers pick what they want.

Thats great

I expect a huge drop in resolution for 60 tho

And this is probably one of the reasons why the game doesnt look so much better than Miles Morales

Edit: Man, the fanboys are at full defense force with these "lol" reactions. Calm your tits.

The game looks great, it just doesnt look best of the gen material like Forbidden West does, for example (a cross gen game). This is hardly a controversial opinion.
Well, if it runs above 900p at locked 60fps it alreay a win in my book

Sure, that's true.

But Insomniac so far has been the pack-leader. They are the only ones, or rather first, of Sony's major studios to release proper current-gen titles, pushing the PS5 hardware.

Seeing what they're bringing to the table, I'm excited to see what GG, SSM and ND will do with their first proper current-gen releases.

Sure impressive Tech; I hope this Game will be a good evolution over the previous one, and according to the lucky guys who managed to play it 4 hours, it is.

Insomniac are doing great work considering the amount of games they are producing. PS5 crossgen launch game, a next gen only Ratchet and now next gen only SM2. All released within 3 years. :messenger_clapping:

As much as I love the top tier visuals Guerilla and Naughty Dog produce, I'd take quicker development times even if it meant slightly worse graphics.

If I play it it'll be 40hz for me. 40 is a nice balance between visuals and performance.

For Wolverine I really want them to push the graphics to the max on ps5. Make it so it can only run at 30fps and then leave the 60fps mode to the ps5 Pro

Insomniac are making almost everyone else look incompetent at optimization.
Tbh, they did ship 4 games so far on PS5 HW: Miles Morales, Spider-Man Remastered, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart and now Spider-Man 2.
It's kinda "unfair" when they have such institutional knowledge across all of their teams. That said, they're 100% the most agile dev in the biz today and Sony are very lucky that Ted Price decided to sell to them after years and years of being courted by not only Sony, but by other 3rd parties as well.

Does Spiderman 2 have VRR?

"Spider-Man 2 will apparently receive the following three modes: 4K + 30 fps + ray tracing, dynamic 4K + 40 fps/120Hz with VRR + ray tracing and dynamic 4K + 60 fps + ray tracing."

Could be a hard choice with dynamic 4k 40fps/120hz with VRR Vs 4k 60fps.

Insomniac are so much better at this than everyone else for some reason.

Wish I had a TV capable of 120hz/40fps...
It's worth the upgrade if you can. I finally did it earlier this year when I bought an oled tv, and can say hands down that 40 fps feels so much better than 30 fps. Having basically the same image quality as the 30fps mode but at 40fps is a huge W.

Pack leader? Perhaps.

But PS5 hasn't really been carried by anything other than a conglomerate of high-quality stuff (which is typical) :p
