People think it's OP because it's a one hit kill if you run someone over with it. If you can get up close to someone with it, they're done.

I wouldn't say it's balanced perfectly, but I also wouldn't say it's nearly as OP as some people seem to think.

I can see it being the core of many teams, but Roller will probably end up needing a pocket for support. Being limited vertically and easily dispatched by ranged weapons (if they player can actually aim) balances it pretty nicely. These comments are with thoughts of high level play. With random lobbies, Roller will probably dominate that clusterfuck.

Damn man. The hype is real. I wanna play again. :/
And I can't attend 2nd or 3rd round.
Nintendo. You did it again! This games is genius. And the best thing is this game was made by younger devs at Nintendo. Future's lookin promising :D

So according to some users on Squidboards, if you log into the tutorial just before the servers go down you can continue playing and getting comfortable with the mechanics (within the limitations of the tutorial, of course).

It's a pity the tutorial isn't independently accessible without connecting first; it would have made sense to leave it up as a solo playground for patiently working out the controls. On the other hand, that would have spoiled the chaos of everyone diving into the game at once with zero experience.

God damn it I purchased the game after this haha. I'll try to hop in to the last hour of the Testfire. Hope to meet you there gaffers!

ZL into the mass of paint you left behind you solves that problem. Like I noted, I dominated with the paint roller because the moment I saw long range shots I disappeared into my ink trail to paint elsewhere. The only problem was other rollers but I quickly figured out how to easily circle around them to avoid mutual destruction.

Probably the best way to enjoy the game.

Why is the thought on roller being OP so contrasting? Seems either food think it's balanced perfectly, or over powered to the moon. I didn't get a chance to play so I have no opinion.

I don't know if I'd call if perfectly balanced yet since the playtime was so limited, but it's a really easy weapon to pick up and play and it's really easy to kill others with. Their range is bad though, so once people get used to painting their area and being aware of enemies around them they won't be that much of a pain. Towards the end of the demo I was seeking them out since they were basically super easy to kill and walking paint bombs for you to pick off. It seemed like if they got the drop on you, you were going to die, but if you saw them coming and you had a gun, they were going to go down. A paint roller with really good squid skills will probably be deadly.

I successfully used a sticky bomb and baited someone into it. :) Very happy with what I git to play even though I didn't do too well. Went on a 4 or 5 streak at some point and really enjoyed that success.

holy crap that was fun, looks like I'm waiting up at 5AM (MST) for round 2.

I enjoyed the roller, but I think I did best with the splattershot. went 13-0 one round with it.

the charger is not for me. I've never been a big sniper so the splattershot's run and gun playstyle is perfect for me.

only 1 "communication error" the entire time I played, and it was at the very end of a match as the scoreboard would've been popping up. game/netcode performed flawlessly for me otherwise (I'm on a wired 50 MB/S connection)

So I can't find where I can send feedback to Nintendo. Is there a website? I need to be able to change weapons and settings without dropping out of the match making.

Glad to hear positive impressions! Planning on jumping on for tomorrow's hour.

How was the performance lag wise?

I had no noticable mid-match hickups, however there were several times where i got an error message that a matchup could not be found. Which wouldn't have been as irritating if it didn't pause the damn minigame every time the error pops up.

flawless, not a hint of lag at all, you won't even be able to tell that you're playing online

Netcode gets a thumbs up from me. No lag whatsoever for me.

Personally didn't notice an ounce of lag. Buttery smooth.
Awesome. Despite Nintendo's failures in some online features, they've been nailing the netcode. Can't wait to play tomorrow!

I didn't get to play that long so I never understood how people were "killer whaling". ( I assume those were the big sonic rings that would kill you

Reading through some of the earlier comments...is it safe to say most people didn't use gyro controls? I assumed they'd be the better option, but seems like a lot of you hated them.

It will take some getting used to so with an hour demo it was best just to use what I was familiar with. That was just me though. I think I'll give them more of a shot once the game is out and I'm not on a timer.

I used them. They felt really good for aiming, but I wasn't used to them, so my field of vision got fucked up every time I turned a corner or forgot I was using them and let my pad drift way down.

Oh! I recall my head glowing or something... How do you trigger it?

Click the right stick.

I mean, aiming explicitly isn't that bad, and using the splat charger with gyro aim seems like a good combo. But the CAMERA, man. The camera goes wonky as hell, and it gets uncomfortable to play tilting in ways you expect the camera to move and whatnot.

I used gyro for two matches and had enough, went to analog controls.
