Quick question - I've been trying to keep up with this but is the Wii U Pro controller supported for solo online play? I really hate the gamepad and using gyro to aim is most likely going to turn me away from this game, though I'll still try it today.

As far as we know - no it won't. It will be only supported in local MP.

Nope.

Not in the demo. Also, you can turn gyro off on the weapon select screen.

No, but you can turn off the gyro if you don't like it.

I'm amazed no other game has tried gyro stunning yet, it is brilliant. Giving the player 3 different axis to work with is phenomenal, it feels so smooth and responsive.

It's not but gyro can be turned off.

Press the + in the weapon select screen for the control options.

I remember Uncharted for the Vita had a similar aiming mode. You could fine tweak your aim with the gyro sensor. It feels real similar to this.

Does someone know if you can you just get through the tutorial by ignoring all of the balloons outside of the initial ones where they don't let you move?

I guess I have some time to set up my recording device for the next session. I wasn't expecting to get a chance to play in any more of the tests, but due to being ill I am staying home. It hurts my eyes to play, but it's soooo fun!

I just wanted to jump in here to say I just finished watching the Splatoon Nintendo Direct and this game appears to have much more "meat" to it than I initially realized and Nintendo plans to put a lot of effort into supporting it with a nice flow of content modes and options to keep things fresh. I think a lot of people are jumping the gun with this one. This is going to be one hell of a game and I'm pretty excited! Love the "tower" mode they previewed and how clothing can really tweak your performance and abilities in game. Also, judging by the direct video, single player mode seemed like it has a lot of effort put into it as well. It wasn't just an after thought. I don't know why I'm surprised at all this IS Nintendo after all. Control options aside, there isn't a lot I can pick on with this one.

After thinking about it, I think I'm sticking with The Witcher this month (I don't like to get too many games at once).

Too many shortcomings. 5 maps, no party system, no party chat, no pro controller support and "loose" aiming.

Maybe in August when it gets more content.
You kind of can't unless you rework some of the super weapons & respawn mechanic entirely.

Is there an option to turn the gyro off and just use the right stick? Would greatly increase my enjoyment with this game.

Edit: looks like that has been answered already lol. Looking forward to the last test.

My biggest complaint is that playing with the Gyro off is horrible. I don't know what it is (acceleration?), but I couldn't hit anybody when I needed to. No reason why it should be that way. I got used to the gyro so it's not a problem anymore, but I think the option for proper dual analog play should be there.

I'm in for the last session. Couldn't attend the first two but tonight I'm free for some Splatoon fun. Reading all your impressions already made me pretty excited.

Why would you need to rework the super weapon? This is something that CoD4 has a very simple solution to.

The super jump (not respawn) ability can be brought up by a button press like many people have suggested before.

I plan to use the Splatter jr exclusively this final round. I went too crazy with the roller domination last time and I expect a lot of rollers. Easy pickings for me!

I think people need to give Gyro controls more than an hour, seriously. The aim on stick only is terrible because it doesn't have auto aim, which is a crutch you're probably all too familiar with. Gyro control totally removes the need for it.

Why are so many people here against choice :/

It's really weird. It doesn't have to be one or the other.
Except in your case where it does.

Real talk, Nintendo offering the wide variety of control schemes was a mistake. They should have just leaned hard into gamepad only. These conversations happen with every single game that gets released and doesn't support 6 different controllers at once.
