Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

Trying to figure out if this would be fun without having any friends on the Wii U. It's cool seeing good thoughts of the game on here though. I may get this after I'm done with the Witcher 3.

I'm trying to think up a cool actual graffiti design.

got 105 yeahs on a Normal Human Father image, 42 on a stylished squid thing, 43 on a cool inkling gal. Trying to work out what will feed me yeahs is another minigame in itself lol

I think it's hilarious.

Weak. At least it's still quoted. :D

Since we are asking people not to post stuff, please refrain from posting:

Aerospray is OP
Do walls count?
Do abilities stack?

I mean, the squids are supposed to be kids. Its kind of creepy.

Got to level 14 playing through friday to sunday, just a few hours per day... Yet, I don't know how some people is level 20 already. @_@

The Nintendo Direct about Splatoon not too long ago specifically said they're 14, or that they can begin playing in turf wars when they turn 14, with the inference that the character designs are supposed to be 14.

(So yes, you're right; I'm just being specific)

How dare you.

Anecdotal: seemingly sold out at two local retailers and all over nico nico douga. It'll be interesting to see week's media create numbers.

welp

Considering I didn't play the game at all when I downloaded it on Friday (spent time with the girlfriend) and I was out all day with my nephew on Saturday I am slightly disgusted and yet proud of myself that I managed this in almost a single day

I kind of want the amiibo three pack but there's some serious gouging going on online. I hope they get the idiots who stole the UK shipment...

Speaking as someone who has never really done online games and can't be bothered to faff with friends lists. Splatoon is maybe my favourite MP online game in like forever. It's cool when someone you do know ends up in your matches. But because it's entirely random who you get (unless you tell the game you explicitly want a match pool one of your friends is in) - there's no real expectation other than to ink away.

Once you get used to the stages, you generally learn to tell how to act according to your team thanks to the map. It can be luck of the draw if you get people who also "get it" or really get their butts handed to them. Thankfully you still get points even if you lose a match towards leveling + only reward in general battles for high win combos is money (which you'll have plenty of from matches anyway)

Ranked might be another story, I suspect this is why Nintendo's held it back for the first weekend. So nobody's turned off when they go to ranked and then just get killed all the time.

Is there a place to signup for GAF games? I literally only have one friend on my Wii U lol. Usually play MK8 and Smash with randoms. So please add me PrinceKee...

Any news on when's it opening up? I left the game at lvl.13 so I have done my part lol. Can't wait to try that mode out.

I think the Japanese Splatoon Twitter account showed an ink container nearly 75% full. So probably by tomorrow it should be available to everyone.

Nice. Dunno how fast it gets filled but hopefully a lot of new players get to lvl.10 real quick so we can all try the new mode out.

There's a Google spreadsheet in the third post of the thread. You have to quote the post to get the link.

Another long Splatoon session.
That feeling when you have a losing streak but are constantly the best of the losing team....

Anyway. Faced my first good Japanese Charger opponent today. Made my life quite miserable in several matches.
And sadly. It ended with a communication error.... My only error today.
Will play some more later.

If I'm not into competitive shooters AT ALL, but I love most things Nintendo, will I still enjoy this? Does it have enough of that Nintendo feeling to help me cross the barrier into a genre I don't usually like? For example, I don't like RTS games, but I love the weird Pikmin version of an RTS.

Just learned something cool many of you have been asking,

After you plat Turf Wars, the opponents you faced will be hanging out around the entrance to the online lobby. So if you like someone's weapons or gear, after you exit the lobby, check for their mii hanging around the entrance. Might be a good way to meet people who you have really good matches with, and follow them on miiverse, etc.

Can't wait for Ranked Battles too. Hopefully comes like.....in the next hour!

You will. You can make it competitive, or you can make it casual depending on what you do. There's no someone who'll nag you if do bad anyway lol. Just join a random group and have some fun spreading ink!

I'm not into most normal shooters but love Splatoon so far. So many hours played already.

it's very different from most online shooters. And the single player is more of a platformer than a shooter.

I'm really liking the roller. It's funny how almost nobody uses it now.

You have to be very sneaky to play it but it's definitely feasible, unless the other team has that Jet Clencher bullshit or too many Aerosprays. God damn those weapons destroy rollers.

It's definitely full of charm like any great Nintendo game. And the single player portion while short is very 3D Mario-like.

Useful tip that you guys might not have realized: You get all your ink filled after using all(?) special moves. Great to empty your tank, use a special, then keep shootin.

Absolutely. I've never been into online shooters and this might be my favorite Wii U game now.

Yeah, you'll probably like it if you like Animal Crossing and Mario Sunshine.

I would say that, if you wish shooters were more action-y and more agility based, I think you'd like Splatoon. I don't really like shooters much myself because a lot of them are so cover-based and the movement feels slow. Splatoon, you feel really free swimming through the ink sneaking up on people. It's like the Super Meat Boy of shooters, with how fluid and free the movement feels.

I think retail stores have demos, so you should check it out. I feel like it's a game where it's easy to tell immediately if you like how it plays.

Really enjoying the game visually and it's so easy to just pickup and play in short bursts. I was having issues with the Charged Shot so I switched to Custom Splatter Shot Jr and my scores improved dramatically. I've barely touched the story mode though and I'll need to do play it through 4 times to unlock all the amiibo content!

All and all very I'm impressed with Nintendo's newest IP and I hope there's a healthy community for the rest of the Wii U's lifespan.

GGs Ferrio. Nice to see you finally decide on the roller.

The magic of Splatoon is that you can be the biggest loser on your team and still be a winner (had a 1 kill to 8 death ratio once and scored the most points on my team to take home the bacon).
