Woo ranked and new map!

Should be hitting level 20 today no problem, provided my connection doesn't screw up a ton today like it did yesterday. But first, finishing the single player!

I'm still very surprised so many reviewers decided to review this game at launch. I'd have treated it like an early access title or something. The content isn't all out yet. Sure, you can give a preliminary review, but your kind of doing a disservice to your readers by reviewing the game at launch.

This would be a good point if you didn't have to pay for the game at launch.

Hoooly shit, I'm still at Lvl. 4 and ranked battles just got unlocked... I feel like I got brutally left behind in the grand scale of things. :(

I'm probably picking up the game today or tomorrow and I'm hyped as hell.

But no disservice is being done if Nintendo released the game and reviewers are reviewing the game as released on launch day. Awesome to have a new map a week after launch but that's but how the game was released for the media and public.

So who's the GAFer really good with mines? I remember playing someone in the giant 8-man GAF room last night who kept fucking shit up with mines. Was it you, Violet?

if people are gonna buy it at launch they should know what they're gonna buy at launch

Good, I'd hope so.

You have to pay for early access games, too. The game is still going to be $60 in August. I don't understand this perspective.

You don't understand why people would want a review of the game they were actually going to be getting when they buy it? It's fine to add a note that additional content will be releasing, but your review should be based on the content being sold. If they want to update scores after more stuff is released, then that would be fine.

I'm pretty sure no one said it was released unfinished, more that it was lacking content which was clearly already finished and ready to go.

You should check this thread then :

Seeing a handful of justifying in this thread, which I expected...some outright praising too, which I don't even understand. The game is clearly not finished, and I think it just speaks to the fact Nintendo needed SOMETHING for Wii U, otherwise it would have gone 6 months without a major release.

Can't wait to play the game, but hearing how light it is on content out of the box is disturbing. Not cool.

The special splattershot Jr with echolocating stuff is super rad. Love finding all the people just sitting on a wall hiding

Of course that's fair. I suppose my point is they should make clear that they are
1) reviewing a game without all it's content out, and
2) will update said review once all the content rolls out

Nintendo made it pretty clear that August would be when we get the modes to make the game "complete". Not saying it's a good strategy or anything. But I know I'd rather have the game now than wait till August, content be damned.

I just feel like in the future, lots of games are going to be released this way (and lots are already being released this way). We can say that the game is half-finished, but if the content is coming out in the future, you're simply paying to be an "early adopter" of the game. The reviews should make this clear, and also make it clear that more is to come and the review will be updated as the game is "finalized".

Just my two cents.

EDIT: Also, for the love of god, at least wait for the Ranked Mode to unlock. It took like 3 days and it's a huge portion of the game.

There's apparently going to be a map with two DK-style towers that you can jump between. Get hype.

Also, really loving that they are already updating. I kinda wish Kelp Dome and Bluefin were released already but they're probably in the next batch along with Triggerfish, since they were the four in the guide.

Nice. Hoping that gets released soon.

I'd like to take the time to point out that I love the shop music in this game, particularly the Shrimp Kicks and Cooler Heads versions. Ammo Knights is also pretty cool since it sounds like it's being played through an old-timey radio.

Oh, and a couple of things I'm not sure everyone knows:

1) You can shift in between the stores without exiting them using ZL/ZR. There's even a neat animation for each store owner for when you shift over to them.

2) Squid Jumping is possible anywhere on the map. I don't think the game made this clear, but I never see anyone do this when out on the field, only on the spawn point.

reviewers had access to splat zones, I'm pretty sure

One thing almost nobody knows (except Chargers) is that a teammate can get in the way of your ink shot. Heh. It stops if you hit them.
