So it's there a way to play with friends online at launch? It's my understanding you just can't guarantee your on the same team?

Does that mean we can have all GAF matches? Or is it only one friend at a time?

great game but it's the first time ever i wish a game had been delayed.
playing the same map 6 times in a row gets old fast.
why the hell don't they add one new map, have 6 total and then have 3 on rotation each time.
I really feel that the lack of maps will trip them up unless they get a few new ones out soonish.

Calm down. :-) They can't spoil maps with new mechanics until most early adopters have played through single player.

I had my doubts about the rotation method at first, but the way the game glues you to the maps for periods at a time, keeping them fresh in your head, seems to encourage greater focus on formulating strategies than flipping through them indifferently as one might in a regular shooter. For example if I see an opportunity to counter a rival team's strategy at the end of the game, I'll want to put it into practice there and then, rather than play a different map and change strategies again.

Of course, the game is going to benefit from new stages significantly, and it seems that there's a spot for a third map in the rotation box, so we'll see.

For now though, I think it's enough.

I'm glad its good for some people, but as i said 6 times in a row in crazy.
Been playing the game for two days now and i've never seen the oil rig stage.
why can't they just have 3 choices instead of 2?
replaying the same stage once is ok, but 6 times without change kills the experience and i'm sure i am not alone.

I agree with this, thought the 2 maps would bother me but I quite like the chance to repeat a map and get used to it and the strategies involved. Bothers me a little when we play one map 7 times out of 10 though, either I'm having weird luck or it needs to be a bit more balanced between the 2. Updates will have an effect I'm sure anyway.

Single player helping lots with my gun usage, have graduated from awful with anything but the roller to half decent... I think :)

At 12:37, the time he was expected to come, I hear the bell.

Me to Peter: "I've been following you! Why were you down here like 3 hours ago?"

Peter Laughing: "I know! I bet you were thinking "Why won't he come to me?""

Me: "Yup!"

Now to sell the game next week for the Digital Copy. If I can sell a Bundle Version that is.

If you can sell it? Have you not seen the messages from frustrated people (like me) who ordered that bundle from GAME UK only to get a message that they can't deliver them due to a stolen lorry with all the squid bundles for the UK on it, except Amazon's stock?

If I had know sooner you were selling yours and had not already ordered the squid from Play-Asia out of sheer frustration, I would have gladly bought it from you (especially because you might even live near me in the UK). Why not try to help a fellow UK Gaffer out? I'm sure some here would jump for joy to get their hands on a squid after that GAME fiasco.

Edit: I've just sent you a PM about your bundle, in case I myself could still use it afterall.

Ahhh - good times. From Amazon UK, one after another:
- Splatoon special edition shipped
- Splatoon girl shipped
- Splatoon boy shipped

Tomorrow is going to be good!

Lucky you; if only I had ordered with Amazon and not GAME...have fun mate (while I wait...)!

You can. You join via the friends list to a friend's lobby. Problem the player that initiates the first game will be paired with randoms I guess and you'll just have to hope they leave I guess.

Not sure how many people can get on the queue

Welp, looks like I'm going amiibo-hunting tomorrow. Yeah, content-locking is bullshit, but they all look really high-quality - probably the best-looking amiibos so far - so personally I think getting the inking girl is worth it for that alone.

Also I may actually have a physical need to go squidstylin' online as a schoolsquid.

At launch ? I don't know since I didn't read any reaction about this feature but from the direct they showed you will be able to play as a team of 4 or even play among the 8 of you just like a custom room in MK8

Here the part where Nintendo say it : https://youtu.be/9-uo4gNm_YQ?t=26m36s

So wait wait wait wait...

I read earlier in the thread someone write that the Wii remotes aren't compatible with this game. Is that true? How are people suppose to play couch co-op? Nintendo still isn't selling extra tablets. Anyone care to clarify?

They retooled Battle Dojo to eliminate the need for a map on the GamePad. As per being local multiplayer, the framerate was cut in half. Player 2 can only use the Pro Controller & either of the Classic Controllers.

No co-op it's a 1v1 mode where one person uses a the classic controller pro pad thing and the TV and the other uses the gamepad.

So you can join friends games and if the game is full or in session there is a wait and retry feature until you get in.

So with that said with GAF, you join a GAF member, get in, then someone can join you or him and continue that way.

Since there is a wait and retry feature just wait until a slot opens and since you stay in a lobby it is possible to have all GAF in one lobby.

Yes the teams are randomised every game to avoid too strong teams in every game cause that shit sucks fucking hard. So glad they did that.

I think that it's kind of necessary too that the player isn't overwhelmed by possibilities, considering we've never had anything which plays like this before. The methods of attack, defense, and traversal are all entirely new. It feels like being sat down in front of a blackboard and being asked to memorise it, but in a way I'm thankful, because each stage is very different in many ways, and by sticking with a stage and experimenting with it, I'm learning at a very fast rate.

I'm sure that we'll all be anticipating the new stages with experience and excitement, though.

Splatoon is an online multiplayer game, not a "couch co-op" game.

I certainly don't agree with the way it is being handled with Splatoon amiibos.

I have an issue when a Mario figure unlocks Mario content in a Mario game, I have an issue when a Splatoon figure unlocks Splatoon content in a Splatoon game (especially considering the price of amiibo's)...

...on the flipside I don't have an issue if a Splatoon figure unlocks Splatoon content in a Mario game or a Mario figure unlocks Mario content in a Splatoon game. As I don't think that non-franchise content would have existed if not for the Amiibo.
.

Oh your last point is good. And I'm really surprised Nintendo didn't add Amiibo support besides the Splatoon line. I mean come on gear designs based on the amiibo you scan would be awesome. Or at least shirts with logos lol (triforce etc).

Btw. My copy arrived. I'm playing the single player mode. It's very good so far (beat lvl 6)
I'm very tempted to hope into turf battles. But I wanna level up with a friend. I hope his copy also arrived today lol

People pay for the game, as far as I know Splatoon isn't a free-to-play, is it ?
Content on the disc you're buying should be unlockable without having to open your wallet once more.
And people pay for the amiibo, the amiibo isn't free to play, is it? Content is tied to the amiibo, if you want it, you buy it.

I don't understand why we're still arguing about what's on the disc or not. When you buy Splatoon, you have access to stuff that's on the disc, and you also have access to stuff that's NOT on the disc, since we know the game will be updated. Price and storage don't overlap one way or another. If the amiibo stuff would be downloaded, would that make you feel better?

The bottom line is, Nintendo offers stuff in exchange for money. That content and the prices are pretty upfront, you decide if you want what they offer for the price they ask, and end of story. Whether it's on the disc or not is irrelevant, especially for a game that has to be played with an online connection anyway.

Like Razmos, I find Nintendo has found a nice balance between offering extra stuff for the amiibo, but not too important stuff so that games aren't hurt by this locked content. But some people are never happy.

Well, that's good at least. I just wish they had a lobby system like MK8 where you could make a GAF-specific room and invite people in with a code or something. That online solution works remarkably well and I don't think they even intended for it to be that way haha. I wish other online games worked under the same principle. It's a great idea.

Had extended play last night; think I've had a couple of hours or so. Level 6. Haven't touched SP yet; I'm saving that for the weekend. The night session was interesting, in that I lost continually for ages. And I don't think I was playing that badly; I was generally top or second in my team.

It did make me wonder if there's a bit of a problem at the moment with new players coming in in a slow trickle, so the players who got the game earliest have picked up the most experience, and are playing longest, so they're the ones you're more likely to encounter late at night. That ought to ease up on Friday when the floodgates really open.

One question that's cropped up: Do multiple identical clothing buffs stack? My top is +strength and then when it levelled it rolled a further +strength, and I'm not sure if that second buff is wasted.

So how are people reacting to the 4 hour map rotation setup. Had a blast playing the two maps in the test fire but I'm not sure if it's really the best way to go around it in the final product. Especially it being 4 freaking hours instead of a more understandable 2 hours.

Here you can play 1 hour session, take a break for 2 hours and still come back for 1 more hour of the same maps again.

I'm curious how it'll go when they start adding new maps in. It's going to be a bit awkward if people come for the new maps but can't play them until they happen to rotate in.

Well I find it strange that a EAD developped game has a less than ideal framerate. Why just in the plazza? Not a big deal but weird. Or is it just jarring because the rest is 60fps and so it's more noticeable when it's not?

I think it's negligible since it's restricted to the Plaza, a non-gameplay zone. Maybe it's all the stuff they're loading in (Miiverse characters, drawings, customized gear, all the shopkeepers and the assets for gear quickly accessible). Just a wild guess. No clue. Since it's a non-issue in regular gameplay outside of Battle Dojo, I see no reason to sweat it. Plus, the stuff I mentioned about this having no relation to the Zelda team previously.

Still nothing for me (Amazon.fr) and the delivery date is still tomorrow.
I bet it'll be via Chronopost (= awfully bad express service in France)

Zmart.cl states my preorder of the game and the amiibo 3-pack should be up for store pick-up tomorrow. Also my Pac-Man amiibo, but that's a bonus for Splatoon night.

Can't wait!

One thing I really like and it's something I didn't notice playing the game during the testfire but I now see in videos, maybe they weren't in those maps we had access to, is that you have those blue squids I think around the areas in various spots watching the match take place. Nintendo does this with Mario Kart as well where you have tons of npcs around the track watching the race and you have Toads I think from the MK TV Network in key spots actually filming the races and those spots are the angles you see the replays from. I'm hoping they add something like that to the Splatoon in time since Smash and MK have systems like that.

Did you preorder early? It's 39.999 now :/
I think I'll wait 'till school is over

Hoping the Inkling amiibo I ordered off wal-mart ships today. Getting paranoid because it's still processing when some of my friends orders have shipped already.

Eager to play with chargers and rollers more, though I'm also curious to try those longer range splattershots.

Man not even my amiibo have shown up today & Hermes haven't updated the status of my SE at all yet.

Trying to think of a workaround, but I guess really the only thing for it is hoping tomorrow is the day.

Squidding Hell. Dusted off my Wii-U and I cannot for the life of me find my power supply. Anyone know if places in the UK sell them separately?

I preordered at 39.990 before it went to 44.990, but then it went back down to 39.990 anyway so all preorders adjusted.

Unless you mean the 3-pack, which AFAIK has always been 39.990.
