Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

According to the explanation, "regular match" doesn't take into account the closeness of your ranks, but rather the similarity of one's playstyle. Rank is a measure of the amount of time that you've played; in direct matching its influence is negligible.

In other words, people who focus only on improving their kill count will largely be matched against other people like them. In short, kill count, death counts and paint points are the three criteria by which matchmaking is accurately assessed.

Initially, we wanted to make ranks vaguely map to the match-making criteria (?) but gradually began to feel that it just wasn't working. At last, we solved the mystery.

Of course it's not a perfect system, so once in a while players might notice and think "I've been ranked here?", but hopefully players will come to the realisation that they've been assuredly put into the same category as like-minded players (lol).

this was kinda difficult to translate, not sure if I got all the nuances...

that seems really interesting. pretty smart way to go about matchmaking if it proves to be effective.

I'm not too sure how much faster my special gauge will fill up with tenacity, but even if it did allow me to have it 3 or 4 times in a match, it may not be ready when I need it most. I think the Burst Bombs are more reliable and I can use it whenever I want, and the echolocator is very good as well.

And congrats on the A-.

yeah you get about 2 Kraken on average per match, maybe 3 if things are going well. I can't use those bloody bombs but you and Blue utilize them well
oh, and I don't think Tenacity is worth it on snipers, you need some fast firing weapon to really get the most of those few seconds when it activates

I only seem to need it once or twice a game when things are going really south, although I am able to use it more on maps like saltspray where it's easy for a charger to build super.

The beakon hopping mechanic is enough to justify it, so I've designed my outfit around it. Recon, Tenacity, and a Super Jump speed up. I used to have a quick respawn instead of tenacity but I almost never die anyway.

sometimes the matchmaking goes wonky and you end up in a game against what feels like 6 year olds. I should have felt bad but I didn't.

I know that feeling

Rich! made a thread about the vgmstream plugin then it is a matter of getting the raw files from somewhere like hcs64.

As for making derivative formats out of them. For 2 channel stuff just convert using foobar or winamp. For more than that using the command line version of vgmstream (to output to wav) and convert to stereo using audacity and would have to make a version for each you want to do. I've not tried this yet.

From what I gather Hyrule Warriors is easier than Splatoon and MK in that its channels don't have volume variance (some info on the MK8 volume variance are in a few pages starting here) but here is the 10 channel version of the Hyrule Warriors main theme downmixed to stereo.

Of course taking everything and downmixeding doesn't always make sense (e.g. Fire Emblem awakening where the regular and ablaze versions of tracks are 2 sound channels each...combining them makes a mess) as seems to be the case with the single player hub world.

You're bae! (posted one of my HW links lol).
Splatoon is available. Thanks to crediar as usual (the guy who got many hate for twitching Smash Bros update).
Most of the tracks plays nice in current vgmstream. Only a couple are KO. Only single player mission have a weird drumm track that needs to be left out.
You can find all this good stuff on hcs and ffshrine.

Edit: Also I'm listening to this since a few days and some tracks are really cool with all the channels. I usually play on my TV and don't have a 5.1 setup. Lobby music is great. Final boss themes too. And the splatfest themes.

Doesn't tenacity simply increases your special gauge regardless of what you're doing? I don't think it increases the rate of building special when you're firing.

I might be wrong about this but in a 3v4 match (someone disconnected right at the start in my team) the special bar didn't seem to fill automatically, but I got a full special like twice as fast when I started to cover the spawn area with ink

Guys, you know what's fun? Trapping people with a Killer Wail as they come down that long narrow passage to the centre in Arowana Mall so they can't possibly escape in time.

That's pretty fun. :)

O_o

How is such a thing even possible? Did the other team get confused and thought they were playing turf war?

I don't know that's possible too. Me and my teammate were just racking up kills. I had 19 and the other one had 15, and the other two had 0 kills and 2 deaths. We just protected a 10 second lead until the buzzer. I only noticed that the other two got dced when we're getting outgunned during the 3 minute mark. Really weird but satisfying win.

trapping someone against a wall with a killer wail, and then coming forward and sniping their shivering bodies is more fun. Even more fun if there are two of them.

My best Killer Wail moment yet is pushing back a team of 3 bubblers from advancing and then flanking them because they didn't want to bother retreating or moving sideways.

I probably should have mentioned that I typically do this from the sniper ledge on my side, through the wall, so they never see it coming. So satisfying when I get them in their way to knock me off my perch. :P

God this shit happened to me yesterday fighting the dual snipers on arowana mall. I finally managed to take one of them out and immediately the other fired a killer wail in my direction that I couldn't escape without falling into the water

I just had some games with pretty massive framedrops, which was weird. There really wasn't anything special going on, like a lot of burst bomb specials being used.

How do people create all those fantastic Miiverse drawings for Splatoon? Is there another way than drawing with the standard Miiverse drawing editor?

Cool just bought this today and going to pick it up from Best Buy this afternoon. My daughter (7) is very excited.

Any info/tips for brand newcomers?

Spyke did this for me, I thank him.

They have amazing skills. That's it.
I think there's some way to upload drawings and convert them to miiverse format. Or something.
There isn't. Even if there was, no one would be able to post it cause Miiverse only allows drawings through the Miiverse app on Wii U/3DS.

The only tip I can think of is this, walls don't count for points.

Hope you both enjoy it.

Partially related to this post:

We should have some sort of template in place where newbies tell SplatGAF what their favorite weapon type is/their interest is after messing with the things available over time (basic Splattershot, regular Splattershot, Charger, Roller, Inkbrush). A specialist in that weaponry will then give them a brief run down on what to do with it and some ideas for gear.

Spyke did this for me, I thank him.

Holy shit

Edit: Actually I'm a bit more impressed with that Squidvader Cap. I want one with three ink saver mains or ink recoveries but I know that's not happening without an act of RNGesus.

I always wonder where the fun is in playing a roller. It seems like such a boring class to me.
Shotgunning is really fun, and allows you to be really ninja.
Rollers are tricky to play because you always need to take care of you ink meter, since you depend on fast usage of shotgunning to kill almost anyone. If you get low ink on any situation you are almost dead with few situations to retreat.
I use the krak-on because I love placing beacons and being fast, but I'll try the dynamo as soon as I get a good run speed set.

Eh, it's not for me.

?

Defense Up is just all around useful and Damage Up is useful for certain weapons.

Yeah no. It's a waste for a lot of weapons and that slot can be used for MUCH better abilities. Damage up/Defense up is pretty much a no go.

Damage up is incredibly useful for chargers, it allows you to kill with an incomplete charge which you might need to kill another charger before they kill you or a person rushing towards you and you need to get them quick
