Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Once upon a time I was really worried about it being the best weapon in the game. It was basically the fastest Inkstriker in the game, and Inkstrike is serious business.

Nowadays though Paintbrush probably inks up just as fast or faster than the Aerospray RG does, and the RG gets severely out-zoned by other ranged weapons until it gets Inkstrike. Only being able to push or pressure when you have your special built up is really sucky, especially if you die before you get to use your special.

Aerospray MG on the other hand is a weapon that isn't quite as dependent on it's special. It fires as fast and damages as much as the RG, but Seekers are also really fun to play around with (even if they take like 90% of your ink) and Inkzooka basically equips you with a super E-Liter 3K for awhile.

Timeaisis and I were totally ahead of the meta with regards to the MG over the RG. MG is probably going to see a lot more use in the future too since all three aspects of itself are amazing. RG will always have Inkstrike and has the fire rate to always be a threat, but mines can simultaneously control neutral and open up mobility options anywhere near as well as Seekers can.

That said, brushes are slowly becoming something I feel will be present in a lot of matchups once team play becomes available. This thing has no down sides after a certain level. I'm getting to a point where I can firmly say it's all on me if I do poorly or the team loses.

I have played a couple matches with the Squiffer, guess I'll try the kelp chargertomorrow and then go for the e-liter, the idea of coming back to a faster charging weapon sounds quite fun indeed :D.
I walked that same path and am not missing the extended range of the Eliter, the faster charge time makes up for it. It also forces you to become more resourceful when you face an Eliter.

I hate the kraken with passion. Is the only thing you can't do anything against if it's activated right near you.
I guess you didn't look at the last page.

That said, if you see a roller is sparkling, assume they have kraken. Stay back. You can outswim them easily.

wait you are using the E-Liter? I suppose I just never really had the time to notice while you showered me with those freaking bombs

=P I'm trash at short to mid range Charger combat, so I adapted with bombs. I gotta say, it's stupid satisfying to kill someone with them, especially when you're trying to escape a roller and then pelt him with Burst Bombs when he least expects it. =D

Here I am, trying to relax by splatting my friends who just bought the game, and bam, DaBoss come out of nowhere and splat me... Well, at least he has the E-Litre
He's using the E-Liter? I should hop back online. =D

I'm a run and gun guy so I'm very surprised that on this game I'm a 96 gal guy and love it. It doesn't hurt that I love the sprinkler and echolocator too

MG 4 life. Seekers>mines. Inkzooka>inkstrike.

Ok I started playing ranked matches seriously... and it's totally awesome. I couldn't help thinking about the August update, Splatoon with my closest friends online will be the best thing Nintendo has ever done.

It will take one hell of a game to beat this as my GOTY. Knowing it still has so much to give... 0_o

Edit: question, how do we yeah a post above someone on the plazza? I spent 2 hours playing with someone and saw he made an incredible drawing. I couldn't figure out how to send him a message.

I guess my E-Liter play vs you yesterday was average at best. =P However, E-Liter vs Heng yesterday was stupid fun, especially with the Burst Bombs.

Before you do, play with the Squiffers for a few games, then play with the Splat or Kelp Chargers for a few more games. Then go to the E-Liter for however many games you want. But then go back down to the Splat/Kelp Charger and tell me it doesn't feel like a Squiffer after getting used to the slow charge time of the E-Liter. =P
I have trouble fighting you regardless of the weapon you use. You just know how to throw bombs very well.

Edit: not saying you suck at chargers. I meant whatever you play I'll have trouble against you due to your bomb placements.

sounds only reasonable
I think only the Squiffer needs to be buffed. IMO the other chargers are fine but the Squiffer became obsolete once the Damage Up thing was discovered because it can't take advantage of that for shit. There's no real point in using it unless you hate yourself.

It wasn't a roller with kraken. That I can avoid easily. It was a shotgun (I don't know which one). I tried to sneak by and when I jumped to attack (with the ink brush) it transformed into kraken. No chance to run away being right there.

I still have not figured out why the commands exist. "Need Help" or "Come Here" would make more sense.

I hope we'll get the ability to make custom pings in this game or a sequel. It totally sucks when we get to ~20 seconds left in a turf war and I decide to switch the script up and rush through enemy territory trying to get people to SJ to me wherever they land and lace the place with our ink but my pings come off as a big nothing for my team. :(

This is quite encouraging since they can be (read: ARE) a headache in ranked, need to see how E-liters play out myself.

I actually played the spy the most in TF2, so I get what you mean. It really is an awesome weapon.

Is it me or do u ppl think this weapon is too OP?

MfObqBq.jpg
In bad rooms yes, it's OP because people don't defend for shit in those rooms so you can just go on a rampage.

In strong rooms it's a pretty balanced weapon because in strong rooms the middle tends to be a fucking war zone and the Aerospray is one of the weaker weapons in that sort of situation.

"To Me!" is technically the same as "Come Here". I've had people shout it at the start of a match to get someone to tag along with them, and it's the de-facto way to get your team to super jump to you once you've broken through into enemy territory.

"Nice!" is just a helpful morale boost, and a signal that all is well. I always make sure to "Nice!" when someone helps me, or I clear an area of enemies.

We do need something like "Go!", to get people to split off from a group. And we really need a "Watch out!", to get the team to watch their six more dilligently.

Hmmm, how do you use Ink Mines? I normally leave them around a corner or at the bottom of a hill, or just drop one asap for revenge kills. My experience is that Ink Mines are a more reactionary/static weapon, whereas Seekers can slightly charge at enemies and lay down long lines of ink, so I'm curious as to how the Mines open up mobility options as well as Seekers do :O

Edit: Maybe that's supposed to be "mines can't simultaneously"?

Yeah, I meant simultaneously. I use(d) mines similarly to how you described them but Seekers' lines of ink are so valuable for starting solo offense or just cordoning off people for team advances/flanks.

You know that "To Me!" comes across as something entirely different on the American and Japanese versions of the game, right?
I already knew about "C'mon!" and "Booya!".
But I didn't realise that Japan's pings have different meanings too. Can anyone fill me in on this?

I mained the Squiffer for 40+ hours so imagine how pissed I was when I found out that the basic charger can kill just as quickly. It's a really stupid balance oversight. The only thing I really miss is the Inkzooka

Damage Up thing?

The worst is when you see a single person on the opposing team sneak by and ink up your side while you're dead and have no way to say "hey, someone kill that fuck" as you see everyone just squidjump right to the middle again.

I understood what you meant. My bomb usage is also the reason I'm so reluctant to even try other sub weapons. So it ends up being a double-edged sword. Either way, you can blame Red for my Bomb usage. His Blackbelly Tower shenanigans forced me to adapt that kind of playstyle. That's when it hit me that bombs are really useful.

I think you just press A to view their equipment and then press Y to Yeah their post.

I was using Damage Up on Chargers before it was cool. >=(

I would like a "move out of my god damn way" or "stop following me"

The life of a Charger/Blaster. =(

Damage Up thing?

the Damage Up ability for your gear, it adds like 6.something% to your damage and is basically only useful for chargers (and the .52 gal I think)

do we know yet if Damage Up has no diminishing returns? I remember a reddit post that mentioned this

those suction bombs killed me way too many times. I always seem to run straight into them at the worst possible moments

E-liter is like the Splattershot Pro in terms of ink usage where it runs out super fast, except worse. I think that's a fair trade off for the range it has.
I guess the best tactic against a E-Litre when you only have a brush is just to run away really fast
My favorite part was getting you and someone else with burst bombs over the wall for a double kill.

Why no one has told that you can kill people ala dark souls with the inkbrush?
Did terrible in the games today( got to learn somewhere :p ), but the moment things will click, it'll be glorious!

E-liter and Squiffer are both ass compared to normal splattershots (and especially splatterscopes). At least e-liter has some kind of upside, lmao

Started playing this game yesterday, and while I still suck, I am slowly learning the ropes. Really really good game. Probably wouldn't have bought it without being forced to get the squid amiibo, so another good thing. :)

Questions:
- recommended abilities?
- good beginner weapons that are not roller?

I am level 11.

Welp, the R2 button on my gamepad is definitely broken :(

Replacement buttons aren't going to be here for a week, so Grakl and I are stuck playing roller for a while. Looks like an easy repair, though. Has anyone in this thread opened up their gamepad before? Nintendo quoted me at $99 for replacing the single button, and there's absolutely no way I'm paying that.
