Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

I wonder how they're going to announce this in-game. The splatfest setup in the plaza still has the date as tomorrow

Oh well I'll gladly wait if it means we don't suffer the bugged lobbies and matchmaking problems Japan had.

oops super late

Are you kidding me? Splatfest was the only thing that was gonna help clean out the bitter aftertaste from E3. They had better release some levels or something, otherwise this won't be nearly the Splatoony weekend I thought it'd be.

I know no Splatfest is better than a buggy Splatfest, but its a hard pill to swallow the day before.

What % of content do you guys think we have now compared to the 100% that Nintendo plans on eventually getting to us? Only referring to anything free coming down the road, not any type of paid dlc, etc.

Bluefin Depot is releasing tonight

bout tree fiddy

but seriously that's a hard thing to quantify. we've gotten two new maps so far, with one more releasing tonight. I believe there should be about 5 or 6 more on the way. we've also gotten a handful of new weapons. I have no idea how many more are on the way.

I think Bluefin Depot is supposed to show up tonight? I was kind of looking forward to it too :P I'll still show up to play Splatoon sometime over the weekend.

We're getting a new level in a couple hours.

Splatfest delayed in North America. What a fantastic end to a great E3 week for Nintendo. /s

In all seriousness, if they need time to fix matchmaking, I'm ok with this. Still, I'm a bit bummed.

Has a thread been made for this yet? I'll post one if there isn't one yet.

Man walking around the plaza seeing all the cat vs dog posts is just making me sad. People are gonna be so disappointed tomorrow. I hope they have Callie and Marie give some kind of announcement for it because right now nothing's changed in the game.

Probably at the next news update, so in 3 hours when the new map comes out. Makes the most sense to break it to people who don't follow Twitter or their website with a new map.

I'm playing Splatoon for the first time today, are there any tips for beginners? I've read the OT and I was wondering if there were more information that'd help a newbie.

Oh no :(

I'm getting out of my town and coming back until August, so I was barely able to play this Splatfest and it being postponed means that I might not be able to play on it now :(

Look for Splatoon tips on YouTube, there is a good video there with 50 of them, seeing them in action makes you understand them more to put them in practice ;)

I'm not playing ranked battle anymore until we get matchmaking. It's infuriating not being able to communicate so I can yell at teammates who are playing for K/D or playing like its Turf War.

*Sigh*

Inking walls don't count in turf wars, but they are still useful for hiding/sneaking/alternate routes.

If you're thinking of trying the motion controls, the single player mode is a steady way to get a handle of it.

Beware the super jump. It's a powerful tool (and there are some ways to utilize constant super jumping for effectiveness in turf wars), but unless you have really good map awareness, chances are you'll die by it.

Activating any special will automatically refill your ink, so don't be afraid to get low on ink as you're maxing it out.

Shoot straight when you're inking the ground. It's more important to sloppily cover a large area, than to slowly and cleanly cover a small area.

You can super jump at any time, and that includes super jumping back to spawn. So don't bother sticking a beacon there.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I do tend to yell a lot in splat zones haha

At least when I play with Gaffers or friends we know what we're doing even without voicechat. Playing with randoms who play it like Turf War or for K/D can be frustrating.

"I am going to pick the Krak-On Roller, and I am going to only use the splash attack."
-Everybody, tonight.

Rolling is addicting, man. I'm going to try some new weapons but I've been saying that forever

So after I lose several ranked matches in a row and dropping down from B- to C+, I get disconnected several times in a row and lose even more points.

So... any GAF rooms going?

Play single player if you're having trouble adjusting to everything.

Most levels are fairly simple and get you used to aiming, swimming, etc. Some levels take place on multiplayer maps and give you an idea of what 1 on 1 firefights will be like. The final boss is a huge spike in difficulty which should prepare you for how chaotic the multiplayer can get at times.

yeah true, having competent team members is really crucial. splat zones is so much fun when both teams are on their game. I'd rather lose and have a good match that goes the full 5 minutes than win in an embarrassing knockout.

Let's see...

*There are 3 minutes in a match to paint your base. Rush to the middle near the beginning. You can go back and paint the base more later after you get splatted and respawn.

*Only go into the enemy base on your own if they're walking all over your team's base. The reason you want to go into their base on your own if they're in your base is to cause them to super jump back to spawn, killing their momentum. The lack of voice chat means that good co-ordination is hard so often the majority of a team will jump back to base just to get one guy. However, wandering on your own when the enemy actually has people there will just get you splatted and give the enemy an easy opportunity to build up their super meter.

*Inking a lot of turf is good but if nobody on your team is doing any defense then you could end up just painting the same turf over and over.

*If the game ever makes you rage, go play Mario Kart 8 for perspective.

Pay attention to the map. You can to some degree determine where your opponents are by seeing where their ink is appearing.

Be really careful when super jumping. The game puts an icon that's visible to the other team where you are going to land. If you jump straight to the front lines. You'll likely just get killed immediately.

Mobility is super important. You want to have your ink at and leading to the areas of strategic importance. Try to limit your opponents mobility by cutting off their paths of travel. Always to to make sure you have at least some ink to move around in if you're going to be in a firefight.

Know when to play defense. I see a lot of people staying on the offensive and charging straight into the enemy territory and getting killed/ letting the opponent slip past them to the middle of the map. If you're winning try to find defensible positions from which you can keep them on their side of the match.

Yes it is. Whichever roller, it's a bloody nuisance haha.

Come on, meta game, show us the counter to this cheese.
Use a blaster to 1 shot them or kill them before they can get the splash off. It takes a long time for them to get the splash out, and most guns can kill them if they see them coming. Don't give them room to hide or else they'll have the advantage to sneak up on you.
