Splatoon |OT4| You're a detriment to your squad

So, what´s up with this?
They're called squid parties.

A similar phenomenon, taunt parties, occurred in Smash Bros Brawl. However I can give you no rational explanation for why people would waste their time like this. But if you have the right weapon, you can pretend to be one of them and then wreck them all. Personally I come across them pretty rarely.

Lol, after not playing for so long I was amazed at myself turning out #1 in all matches with awesome K/D ratios...until I figured out people weren´t even playing the game.

I swear this post is different from all the previous times I've claimed to have a found a new weapon... because I've rediscovered an old weapon. No but seriously it's fascinating how much better the custom blaster feels now that I can, y'know, play.

I actually have sufficient aim to one-shot, or "pop" as I say. Flanking pops, 180 defensive pops, jumping point blank pops... And I'm now capable of mindgames, such as throwing out my second blaster shot to where I suspect the opponent is going to move.

Other likely factors include the point sensor radius buff and the changes that made defense up viable.

Stay tuned for next week when I disavow it like all the rest.
That's good to hear! :) And yeah, playing the game a lot regardless of loadout will eventually give you game sense that you can apply to other loadouts.

Splatoon bringing in more awards for Nintendo

Hi, I'm looking for high level matches but can't seem to find anything decent on youtube, preferably with some nice commentary. If anyone could point me in the right direction, would be much appreciated.

Why do mines suck so much

Aghhh

EDIT: This is me coming back from Battlefront II where you could practically create a suicide melee class with mines alone.

Check out ThatSRB2Dude on Youtube for high level play and some commentary. Nintendome has some technique videos with full commentary, but no full games to my knowledge.

Unfortunately there's not much in the way of competitive gameplay + full commentary.

Yeah, Dude is the way to go. He's funny as well, and always enjoyable to watch.

This game is so good. Probably the first time I really enjoy playing a multiplayer 'shooter'.
The singleplayer is also fun, the reviews say it's not that good, but I like it.

The style, the music, everything about this game is unique and shows why Nintendo is still a master at game development.

The one thing I don't like are the irritating unskippable messages you get every time you start up the game and for example when buying new weapons when the guy keeps on explaining the new guns. Is someone really reading all those things?

The news isn't even useful to me because it doesn't tell you what the mode is. :/

Okay, ability changes

Ink Saver Main: Maximum ink saved amount changed from 40% to 45% (12.5% overall effect increase)
Ink Saver Sub: Maximum ink saved amount changed from 25% to 35% (40% overall effect increase)
Ink Recovery Up: Maximum ink recovery speed increase changed from 67% to 82% (22% overall effect increase)
Special Duration Up: Maximum special extension for Inkzooka and Bomb Rush changed from 40% to 60% (50% overall effect increase). For Inkstrike and Killer Wail, special duration will now shorten the amount of time where your movement is restricted after using them.
Opening Gambit: The increase to run speed and swim speed will be the equivalent of having 3 mains of each.
Last-Ditch Effort: For ranked battles, the effects activate when the enemy's counter goes below 30. It will also be active during overtime. Quick Respawn is also added to the ability's set of buffs.
Tenacity: Special gauge increases 20% faster than previously.
Comeback: Special Charge Up is added to the ability's set of buffs.
Haunt: Anytime you are tagged by an enemy Echolocator, Point Sensor, or Haunt, you get buffed with Damage Up, Defense Up, and Run Speed Up.
Recon: You will be able to see the enemy on your map for 3.5 seconds after leaving the spawn point. Additionally you can now see what weapon each enemy has equipped on your map.
Bomb Sniffer: Damage dealt by Splat Bombs, Suction Bombs, Seekers, and Ink Mines do 40% less damage to you if you're not in the OHKO range. Burst Bombs also do 20% less. (Not sure if this means splash damage only or if direct hits from BBs also have decreased damage).

Yeah looks like the whole point of these changes were to buff abilities that don't get a lot of use, especially in ranked & squads. No nerfs of any kind

These changes will make some of the cool-looking gear... effective. I like this. I think I might start playing again. Lot to catch up on, I'm sure.

Stage Changes:
Following stages will have their layout for Turf War changed to match their layout during Splatzones:
-Arowana Mall
-Moray Towers

Team Matching Changes:
In Ranked Matches, teams would be decided at random, but now they will take equipped weapons into account (Goodbye team of rollers on Moray).
The following ranks will be less likely to be grouped together :
S+ and S
S and A+
A- and B+
B- and C+

Something about changing how Ranked Match points are distributed or deducted during connection errors. At work right now so I can't do a better translation.

Ability changes listed already.

Splatfest Changes:
During Splatfest, Vibe Meter will be replaced with Fest Power.
-Fest Power at the beginning of a Splatfest will be based on your current rank
-Fest Power will change based on your win / loss rate during Splat Fest
-Among the team, the player with the highest Fest Power will earn more Fest Power than other members.
*Currently, Splat Fest pairing was intended to match similar play styles, but now it will pair people of similar Fest Power.
-The higher the average Fest Power rating is among the team, more Splat Fest points will be awarded for wins.
-At the start of a battle, the number of times the player has chosen to continue playing with the current group will be displayed.

Battle changes
-The warning display of the Killer Wail has been changed (I'm assuming to make it easier to tell that you're inside a Wail before it fires)

Bug fixes
-Bug corrected where the "Comeback" skill would activate late when immediately using Super Jump after respawning.

Precious precious stability updates.

^They're actually changing Arowana Mall and Moray Towers so that their turf war form matches their splat zones layout. Meaning the mid won't be as much of a massive choke point easily controlled by a couple of competent chargers

that is awesome news

Moray is massively improved with the extra route up the centre on the opposite side, so good call there. Arowana's a good change too, though I'm kind of fond of its silly chokepoint.

Updated the Haunt thing again because there's some discussion on discord about it and honestly I'm not 100% sure what the new effects are. It's definitely one of those two though.

YES YES YES YES YES. They're fixing Moray and Arowana's Turf War maps. The Splat Zones layouts are soooooooo much better.

Actually, all of the updates look great. Love the Ranked Mode matchmaking changes (especially the weapon balances). All of the ability buffs make a lot of sense, considering how much Run Speed and Swim Speed Up has been used lately. Looking forward to seeing how the new Recon works in practice.

The only one that makes me wonder is the Ink Recovery Up buff? Wasn't that one already reasonably popular? Might be seeing a ton more of that in the future.

I have a week left of using my main, vanilla Luna, before bomb sniffer makes it redundant. :(

Edit: That squiffer... great, more Kraken is exactly what we need! Urgh. And whilst I like the ink saver sub buff for some Carbon Deco loadouts I use, it's going to make gals even more of a pain.

If haunt works when the opponent is tagged then an entire team of haunt users would theoretically have synergy. Additionally, you could give yourself a stat increase simply by tagging people with the point sensor.

EDIT: holy shit that bomb sniffer buff

So according to JP Twitter there are going to be two 'volumes' of new weapons, so maybe a total of 10? Thinking about it I would like a DS with bubble and a Heavy Splatling with bombs of some sort (if this happens probably would be burst bombs since mini has the suction and hydra has the splat bombs).

These changes will make some of the cool-looking gear... effective. I like this. I think I might start playing again. Lot to catch up on, I'm sure.

YEEESSSS.

-The higher the average Fest Power rating is among the team, more Splat Fest points will be awarded for wins.
-Prior to the start of the next battle (lobby screen), the amount of times a player has chosen to "Continue" will be displayed. (I think this is so you can tell when you join a good group. If the other three players have chosen to continue 10-15 times, that can suggest that this group works better together than a group with wildly fluctuating numbers suggesting people are dropping immediately due to poor performance or low skill).

Battle changes
-The warning display of the Killer Wail has been changed (I'm assuming to make it easier to tell that you're inside a Wail before it fires)

These are some GOOD changes. I especially like the changes to splatfest and maaan I've been complaining about Killer Wail a lot recently as I've been jumping into them when I was actually safe XD

Just like to quickly chip in with regards to the Haunt changes. I'm thankful Geg has updated his post to reflect our current confusion, considering it changes the power of the buff depending on which way it ends up being. The English notes currently don't provide any info on Gear ability changes, and they've proven to be unreliable in the past (lol Bomb Rush base duration up guise), so we will have to wait until we get more clarification.

Also, thanks for pointing out that possibility Regiruler; I was too fixated on the Haunt marking itself, but it sadly doesn't clear up our confusion. If it works based on number of marks on opponents (Echo/point sensors/other haunts) that could indeed make it a very powerful ability if the ability buffs stack per mark. Heck, even if you get the same buff so long as one opponent is marked, that alone would be a huge help.

It still sucks that even in this scenario, Cold Blooded shuts Haunt down, especially if you encounter a pure CD team. However, given that the Splatoon team appears to be trying to make options OTHER than CB appealing, it may balance itself out longer term. We shall have to wait and see.

Wow, meta in the blender.

- Don't sleep on last-ditch effort. Not only is it buffed in ranked and you get quick respawn, but it will also benefit from the buffs to the three ink skills.
- Ink recovery will be OP. I may go back to my L3D burst bomb build. Or even create a splattershot jr splat bomb build.
- I'm a bit skeptical haunt buffs you when you activate a locator sub/special; that sounds crazy OP and not consistent with the concept. And if tagging an enemy with point sensor buffs them, that's a big blow to the custom blaster.
- Also skeptical bomb sniffer will be that amazing, though I always loved the banana basics.

What about new gear?

Updated the Haunt thing again because there's some discussion on discord about it and honestly I'm not 100% sure what the new effects are. It's definitely one of those two though.

It's when tagged by the enemy, "相手". So an enemy using Ecolocator will buff you at the cost of exposing your position while you tagging your opponent will not activate Haunt.

This is what we thought as well, until I went back and re-read the Japanese changelog and saw the に in the description:

「相手にマーキングされている間、」
Source: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/wiiu/agmj/update/index_260.html

At that point, we all got confused since I thought the に there was referring more to the location of where the marking occurred (at/on the opponent), rather than the other way around (from the opponent). Of course, I'm just a low elementary-level scrub, so I'm both likely and happy to be wrong; I'll actually learn from this too.

My mind just keeps going back and fourth between being excited and not-so-excited about the Haunt changes. :p

I like these changes, and I like that Nintendo actually posts them up, with specific numerical details. I like that they're mostly buffing things rather than nerfing, and even when they nerf things, it's not a big deal.

It baffles me they've made so many changes over the last months but never tweaked the "CAN'T USE!" Ink Mine.

Kraken, Inkzooka and Splash Wall got pretty brutal nerfs though

He probably just means with this update in particular. Yeah those got nerfs and a lot of weapons did too in the most recent balance patch, but all of these ability changes are buffs
