Could the staggered release of multiplayer features also have to do with that you won't get spoilered for the singleplayer? In other words, if these mechanics aren't already in the multiplayer, do you expect them to make it into the multiplayer game at a later stage?

Those sponges from the Hero Mode campaign for example, they could easily be part of the traversal in a multiplayer map at some point.

A question regarding the story mode for those who are already playing it:

Do the bosses come in separate levels battle-based? Or are they at the end of regular levels?

I'm trying to figure out if bosses are included in those 27 levels Gamexplain said the story mode has...

Videos look pretty great!

I hope down the line there'll be multiplayer maps with greater emphasis on platforming and painting walls and ceilings too. Having players in different orientations relative to one another could offer some unique gameplay opportunities.

Separate stages. They're the final stage of each zone.

Enemy fills a sponge, jumps to it, you fill the sponge with your color while enemy stands on it, enemy jump away from the sponge fails. :-)

Single player looks legit, not an afterthought at all. Truly this is the Portal of Mario.

That pleases me greatly. Now I just need to know how long it is

EDIT: Oh, 27 stages. Sounds alright

These bosses look like something straight out of Mario Galaxy

Will still stay pessimistic until I hear some definite details on how long it is.

Remember how Super Mario Bros. only has 32 levels? Sounds kinda ridiculous, right? Even if this only has 27-28 levels, that's more or less the same realm and then you have the amiibo challenges on-top for a large part of them (if you happen to own those, of course). Plus the part where the SP isn't the game's sole big focus. I wouldn't worry. Unless you for some reason decided you don't want to play online at all.

You can't really aim or even shoot straight up. Ceilings is not gonna happen.

The single player will probably have some post-game content as well, since collecting all those Sunken Scrolls is supposed to unlock something. But it seems like reviewers can't talk about the Sunken Scrolls,
which is good
.

Oh, does anyone know how many different bosses the game will have? I know that recently Mario games have just sometimes been repeating the same bosses over and over with slight chances to the environment

this is what I'm hoping for

I've seen 3 so far. The giant spinning shell thing, the giant cube thing, and this thing:

EDIT: Apologies, I figured it was ok to post due to it being a spoiler thread.

Spoiler thread just means potential spoilers can be discussed. It's not an "unmarked" spoiler thread where you can spoil everything like there's no tomorrow. Since the wonderful Modbot closed the Testfire thread for no valid reason, this is where we currently have to go to discuss the game and stuff.

Well, I was only half serious with that post >.>

Thank you very much! And do they count for that total number of 27 stages? And do bosses have the secret collectible that is found in each level?

They probably count towards the stages.

Oh, does anyone know how many different bosses the game will have?

Probably 5 or so. I imagine 5 words, each with 44 levels and a boss, except for the final world which is only two levels and a boss.

there's a thread on 4chan where a dude with review copy has been talking mainly about the single player. He says it lasts around 5-6 hours, there's some spoilers for levels and bosses, read at your own risk

That was an awesome read.
I read just enough to hype myself without spoiling any of the good stuff.

This (Slight spoilers) looks awesome
Please tell me there is a spooky carnival multiplayer stage being added in the free updates

well, the demo thread was about the demo, and the demo ended. This is all review code stuff now

Really glad Nintendo is organizing online events for reviewers. Getting a match going can take some time and the Doodle Jump mini game isn't engaging enough for my taste.

Shows as well how well the gyro controls are once one gets used to them. They're awkward at first (any controls scheme is) but once you use it them for a bit, don't fight it, you start playing similarly to this. How I felt about the controls at the start of the first testfire and by my last match that first night was like night and day. That was less then an hour.

The Mario Galaxy vibe is still strong in the single player (could be seen from the first time they showed it off I feel) it seems and that alone should make people happy to play this. Especially the boss battles.

5-6 hour single player campaign? I'm fine with that, that's your average playthrough of InFamous SS! lol.

Trying not to spoil myself on single-player stuff. Only looking for multiplayer matches so I'll continue keeping an eye out for that.

5-6 sounds fine. I was expecting 2 or some shit. I just want a solid single player experience, really.

5-6 is perfect, enough time to get used to the control, enjoy the single player and just enough time to jump in multiplayer.

I hate when multiplayer focused games have longggggg single player cause I get anxious after a while and jump into multiplayer and never play single again.

Perfect length.

this for sure. and by the third testfire they were like second nature and I was dominating across the board pretty much. also getting a good handle on all the squid-form mechanics is crucial. I always got to where I wanted to go first because I ink hopped all the way there. such a satisfying gameplay mechanic.

Inkhopping will be very important for splatzone so you can start covering before the other team.

Snipers will also be important for laying paint straight to the zone for the team to swim there.

I really hope they game hits a cord with games like how halo was cause it has so much potential.

5~6 hours is not short at all. A lot of games without multi content last less than that. Plus, it is an online multiplayer-focused shooter, those usually don't even have a single player mode.

I agree. It just might review well. The only sticking point is the map and modes in multi.

Game looks great! Won't look at any of the bosses, though I remember seeing one or two in the Single-Player trailer that looked quite interesting and unique, so I have high hopes!

Now here's an important question: WHO IS THE COMPOSER? I want to know who to bow to.

Curious about the replayabliity of levels. There are the scrolls we know nothing about but I wonder if they can be done time attack style for high score, no damage, etc? The amiibo already unlock challenges for specific weapons. Or if there are other collectables ala Mario Galaxy.

The length (perhaps longer if you don't get everything the first time around or die a lot) of the single player is a positive and that should help with the reviews and the game not getting knocked because some of the content is coming over time and not all there day one. Clearly it's not an afterthought when one looks at the level design of the levels we've seen so far.

Oh shit
Totaka's Song
shows up in this?

And some of those abilities really show just how much teamwork is needed for this game, and how much the lack of good communication options might hurt it in the long run.
