They need to work on the rain...

I'm tired of that "straight line" style rain effect. It just looks ugly...

MGS2 was released in 2001, I wish someone would attempt to duplicate that style of rain, it still looks better than most anything else that has come after it.

Speaking of that, are there any rain effects in MGS3? I remember there was rain in the TGS 2003 trailer.

word. ASTOUNDING rain effects and sounds, and the wind is even better. there is a forest where the rain stops and the ground then emenates this mist or fog. You can FEEL the dampness coming out fo the screen.
the added bonues I love is the way the water (and blood sometimes) splashes on the cameras and drips down so realistically.

What really impressed me was "the bike through the waterfall" effect they used during a certain scene. Normally, you'd just get a "splash" sprite effect or something that "looks" like water splashing. Even in 3DMark05, the effect used as that giant creature emerges looks lame. In MGS3, there is this massive, detailed particle shower that just looks incredible. It really looks as if something massive has come crashing through the falls. I've never seen anything like that before in a game...

Thinking of MGS3, though, I did just manage to get ahold of the full soundtrack. Yummy. :)

I expected something like this. March....
Sorry for OT, I'm semi-interested in Chaos Theory. The visuals look awesome and the physics will make it even better, but I'm not Splinter Cell's gameplay fan nr 1.

Yup. The shadows look nice. I'll wait until I see some videos, but the effects (I.E. rain) in Chaos Theory look weak compared to what is seen in MGS3. The bar has been raised. :D

Chaos Theory looks to be a step up gameplay wise, but from the previous games single player mode we know it needs a ton of work. Hopefully the co-op mode pans out and the single player is actually as non linear as the development team is making it sound.

im not sure if I should get the PC version or xbox.... ?

i agree with most the rain needs work, will MGS2 ever be beaten at that ?(not played MGS3 yet)

Yeah, MGS3 really has some of the most incredible special effects I've seen in any game. From early stuff like the nuke explosion (shown in trailers) to the fight with a certain boss (fire!!!), the game never stopped impressing. It's like they just decided that the weaknesses of the hardware would simply not stand in the way. If a certain scene was to feature a specific effect then, by golly, they were going to make it work and look incredible.

IF PT is any indication probably the Xbox version.

The online mode in PT was EXTREMELY spotty. PC Gamers had trouble running it online for weeks.

Chaos Theory should be a good indicator on how strong the SC series is. If a brand new game (Ninja Gaiden) can help take a huge chunk of sales out of the sequel to the 2nd best selling Xbox game, how will a highly acclaimed/highly anticipated RPG (Jade Empire) going to affect Chaos Theory? We'll see how strong the SC is come March.

Woah look at the reflection from the floor! Shit! I can't wait! :D

Yeah! No gameplay variety. I hope they add a chess mode and tetris like game to it too.

Hmm, I don't think there is a lack of gameplay variety...the problem with SC single player is that you are pigeon-holed into performing tasks in a somewhat specific manner. There is minor deviation in certain scenarios (which tool should I use?), but by and large, everything has a singular, optimal solution that must be followed in order to achieve success. It's just incredibly linear.

The generally poor AI routines and confined maps only serve to impact this effect.

SCCT should be a very big improvement over SC and SCPT. This is the true sequel to the original Splinter Cell, with a lot of new stuff that should boost both gameplay and replay value. Each level should have multiple paths for each objectives (I know the lighthouse one has at least), and much less trial and error. You can make a mistake and still be able to complete the primary objective.
Also the multiplayer mode has been improved a lot since PT, especially how the spies work together and get most of the moves from the coop mode.
I hate stealth games with a passion and certainly won't play this one for more than 2 minutes before turning off my Xbox, but it definitely looks like a VERY good game to me.

then i guess i wont like it enough unless it has multiplayer. i like using whatever tool i want for whatever situation and MGS3 comes the closest to allowing complete freedom in that regard. that and jungle and giant indoor environments are better than whatever splinter cell has.

They should gauge Sam Fisher's eyes out and hang them above him, so that he can't see more than 5 feet in front of him while moving. REVOLUTIONARY CAMERA SYSTEM!

I'm starting to think normal mapped faces look incredibly creepy...

Still looking forward to this game somewhat though, despite forcing myself to finish Pandora Tomorrow. Hope Sam can shoot out a lightbulb without having to empty a fucking clip of ammo at it. I'm expecting coop mode to be fun for about a week, then get stale real fast...

Odds are though this game will have a map editor of somesort like Pandora Tomorrow(PC version - found one last night but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.), so that could extend the fun by a week or two.

Being myself a Blood fanboy it's hard to hate on one of my few fellow brothers, but, can you, please, post about something that it is not a graphical complaint?

Jeez man.

man, i soooo dont care anymore. huge fan of the first, but damn the series is already dead to me.

wake me if impressions (not "hands-on" drivel from fansites or mags) state that the game plays drastically better then the first two and if i should really give a shit.

Op, Blimblim and his website are reliable.

yeah, i know, i love xboxyde...

but has he had a lot of time with the game, or is he just discussing what ubi is taunting as the reason sc3 will rock? i'm very leary, as a lot of what is being mentioned was brought up for sc2 and that turned out 99% the same gameplay wise
