Splinter Cell 3 multiplayer vid

Woohoo, more Splinter Cell

Now someone edit the movie with EA's logo instead of UbiSoft's.

Looks good, but I hear there were problems with PT's multiplayer (namely too large levels and getitng people to play it properly as I recall), has there been any word on changes?

what's to improve then?

a while back this Ubisoft dude had an interview with IGN, he was going on and on about using these tricks to make the game look incredible (similar trick used in the Unreal III demo). I see nothing here.

In single player the game looks much better than Pandora Tomorrow.

The graphical improvements are in the single player mode, and it does look incredible. Both modes are using different engines and are done by two different studios.

The singleplayer uses new graphics, multiplayer stays roughly the same. Singleplayer is so nice...I was mega impressed with the playable demoat gamestars live. Looks just stuning.

Didn't you notice that in Pandora Tomorrow there was basically two engines? One multiplayer, and one single.

For example these splinter cell 3 shots

singplayer: (bumpapping, speculars, great new shadow effects, etc)

multiplayer: (only small improvements..)

The first Xbox Live game that I was truly addicted to was Pandora Tomorrow...And I'm really looking forward to Chaos Theory for that reason. While I will play the single-player, I've never been a huge fan of Splinter Cell's single-player, but it's not bad.

to quote penny arcade:
3. Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow

The single-player portion of the experience was noteworthy, what with its highly cinematic setpieces and extrapolated political fiction. Even without it, the multiplayer - sometimes referred to as Adversarial Mode - would be here at number three all by its lonesome. Gabriel was in nightly for months, and it wasn't until we started hitting cons in the summer that he was broken of the habit. I know of no other game, online or off, that seizes the player with such extremes of joy and sorrow. The two experiences that comprise it are each unlike any other game, and the notion that they could be thrown against each other in competition is audacious. It's one of the most truly original multiplayer games in years, in a space where major innovations typically revolve around how many flags there are, and what precisely one must do with the flags once they have been obtained.
i agree completely. and i'm kinda disappointed that the game isn't better appreciated on gaming age, but what can you do.

bring on sc3. multiplayer + co-op = possible goty, i'm sure.

Finger crossed they keep the bumps and shadows for the GC

Single Player and coop uses a brand new graphics engine.
Spy vs Mercs uses a slightly upgraded Pandora Tomorrow engine.

Thats dissapointing... so basically new single player game with a multiplayer expansion

Speaking of which, Ubi Soft issued a new XBL update a short time ago which eliminates a lot of the cheap crap scrub players would do and some other issues as well (i.e spies jumping on merces over an over again). Now when the mercs get up they give off an electric shock that'llkill spies. So now, cheap bastrads have to play spies the way they were meant to be played and have to work like they're supposed to.

Some of my pals have gotten back into the game hardcore because of the improvments and areplaying the helloput of the game in anticipation for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

does anybody have any really good multiplayer vids online? I'd like to see how well the stealth is applied in different situations, and just plain see some cool ass vids. I'm downloading the ign multiplayer review video feature right now.

Will I just be constantly owned if I rent Pandora Tomorrow for the multiplayer? I'm only really familiar with the first game.

It looks like the sequel has a full on first person mode. Does PT have the same thing (at least for multiplayer)?

definitely not. i'd suggest avoiding it if you don't have live, though.

it pains me to say it, but pandora tomorrow's multiplayer mode has an incredible learning curve. it's not so much learning the controls as it is learning the maps and figuring out which gadgets are more useful for certain situations. once you figure everything out.. goty.

and yes, pandora tomorrow has a first person mode for the mercenaries. it's one of the reasons the game is so brilliant. both sides have completely different control schemes/techniques, but matches are still very balanced.

So you don't think I would have any fun with it now? The competition is just too experienced?

I guess the release of Chaos Theory will even up the playing field....assuming that they don't use all the maps from Pandora Tomorrow.

Yeah, epmode summed it up pretty good. You will get owned royally. The most important aspect of the whole game is knowing the maps (like 90% of the game is knowing the maps). There is an option to visit each map without having to go online. I suggest you do that before you even try going online. It literally takes a good ten hours of online play before you really know what you're doing.

SC is merciless online. If you don't devote hours upon hours mastering every intricacy of each level you will be crushed.....

ha, i guess they are going for fun over realism even tho its tom clancy with this title....judging from the invisibility thing.

looks sweet tho, im gonna get this.

Sounds fun....too bad that it also sounds completely unapproachable. Too bad that they don't have a ranking system like Halo 2. Perhaps the sequel might employ one?

I hope they do, cause I actually like the matchmaking service. I was use to it because of wacraft TFT/ROC which incorporates basically the same concept.

peace

Practice, practice...PRACTICE!!! Now is the perfect time to learn with the new update. Thisgame is all about knowing the maps and what you can do. A lot of people think that mercs run the shows, but there are people online who play as spies you should be deathly afraid of. Just get a game with some friends or LAN up and play a bunch of practice matches. Or go into multplayer and choose 'explore a map' option.

Learn the combat with your spies, the key is that you have to make the mercs afraid of you and you have the tools at your disposal. Spies you need to be up close (touching) to be lethal! Sometimes it's better to knock a merc out to complete an objective than killing him and runing into him on your escape route when he respawns. Mercs, practice the 180 degree turn, this will save your life! Mercs can now talk smack to downed spies by holding down the white button.

The game has a huge learning curve, but very rewarding when you get good at it. This game is all about teamwork!! Get yourself a partner or group of friends you play with, they need to know locations so when you say get the switch by the vault via the roff entry, they know exactly what the hell you're talking about.

Personally I'm a little disgusted that this game didn't get more end of the year awards for 2004 due to the sheer innovation of online play. This is one of the best online multiplayer games ever and I can't wait until SC:CT. ;)

there is a ranking system, i just don't know how well it works. 90% of the matches i played were unranked, against people on my friends list.

even with the learning curve, it's still highly recommended, if only to get ready for sc3.

The game is always 2 vs 2, right? So for a LAN mode will it do splitscreen for 1 team per Xbox? Or do I need 4 systems, 4 TVs, etc?

no splitscreen support, as far as i know.
yes, always 2 on 2.

one thing the game really needs is a spectator mode with player rotation between matches. it would kill all of the downtime spent waiting for players to join.

Well, 2 Xboxes might be workable....but getting three other friends to buy copies of the game....and set it all up.....not gonna happen.

Oh! You thought those much talked about screens were from the Xbox version? :lol
I hope you'll come here and say how wrong you were when you'll see the game running on a xbox in a few months. This game looks absolutely *stunning* on our good old Xbox, and these screens are good representation of how the game really looks like. Just add a bit of aliasing and you are done.

splinter cell 2 Multiplay mode was superb, though it has it's major flaws: when you play as an aggressive-spy you pretty much have advantage over a stealthy spy, thats not like it was meant to be.

can't blame them though, first stealth online game.

I strongly disagree, you just have to know how to play. And as mentioned above with the new updates the game has gotten better. The thing that many forget is that when you play as the spy you have to be a little dynamic. Toggle between passive to agressive and using your surroundings. O.K. I see we need to organize a game..........

Looks like a lot of fun. I was hooked on Splinter Cell Multiplayer and I'll be there for this one too. I'm a bit worried how the cloaking will work, looks like it'll be cheap.
