Split/Second Demo Out Now on XBLM

FINALLY gave the demo a shot. I was wary after loving Blur and hearing so so things about this but fuuuuuccccckkkkk that, this game is jawmazing. It's like okay fun until you open up the new paths and the B-splosions and then, yeah, it's phenomenal.

Preordered.

No idea when I'll get to play it with Alan and James both arriving on the same day, but $45 is too good a price to miss.

I think S/S , Blur and ModNation will lose some serious amount of sales going in the same week as the super hyped Alan Wake , RDR and SMG2 , seriously some publishers are as dumb as fuck.

Yup. It's like a two week November.

cool gfx, decent speed, fun arcade game. I love the explosions but why is there no boost ? :D

it's still a fun game as I kept replaying the demo over and over.:lol

this is making me miss burnout. no paradise is not the same as it's an open world game which at times ends up frustrating me, however the sense of speed in burnout is unreal.

I cant wait to see what criterion does next with the new game they are working on ( i hope they are truly working on NFS )

Burnout Paradise is way better than all other Burnouts (imo) the sandbox gameplay is just fantastic but then again I am way too much superior and can drive well in open city/roads and don't need tiny narrow roads to enjoy.

but why is there no boost ? :D

to force the player to use the the Power Play I guess.

Wow, they're all coming out this month with the latter three? What terrible timing.

I've played the demo like two dozen times and I just want to keep playing. I placed my pre-order through Amazon just now. :D

May/18
Alan Wake
Red Dead Redemption
Split/Second

May/23
Super Mario Galaxy 2

May/25

these arcade racers are going against some of the biggest games this gen ,they will fucking bomb then Sony ,Activation and Disney will blame the gamers and say the arcade racing genre is dead let's make more shooters.

Im getting all 3 May 18 releases, since they all seem to be THAT good. I loved the Split Second Demo, ive been waiting for Alan Wake for years, and everything they show of Red Dead looks amazing. Its like the end of the year or something.

i too am picking up 3 titles on 05/18. RDR, Alan Wake, and S/S. it's going to be a fun night. glad i took off the next day from work. i will be up 'til dawn playing all 3. going to save alan wake for last when i'm nice and sleep deprived.

I #$@#ing hate arcade racing games! But I'm loving this one. Such a rush. Nearly shit my pants the first time the plane landed.

Dell $44 shipped, no gimmicky store credit which expires...

how is Amazon credit gimmicky ? and no they don't expire in one week or something ya know.

and If you are an Amazon customer and hunting these deals with credit and using them to slash prices on other games you will find yourself buying way less.

WTF? No credit is better than credit? You know you can also apply it to preorders right? Who in their right mind would turn that down?

I'm SOOOO close to preordering this, especially with this $10 gift card, and $45 price, but I still think I enjoy Blur more.

Prince of Persia is the 18th as well. I'm an Ubi Montreal fanboy, so I'll probably throw that one in first :)

I can't remember a single week EVER that had so many high-profile releases. So stupid -all of these games risk losing sales to each other. Lost Planet the week before too. God damn.

wtf i forgot about the pop. I dont know about that one though. Visuals are very unimpressive, and the game screams of Movie Cash-in symptoms.

Just played the demo again and enjoyed it quite a bit more than the first time. Any idea on how many tracks the final game has?

Yeah incredible bad timing for release. Releasing a game in May seems a bad idea overall but a week difference between SS and Blur is overkill. At least they should have moved SS at the beginning of the month along with Lost Planet 2.

soooo tempted to pick this up thanks to the price drop but i wont since i already have red dead and galaxy 2 coming in this month that and im cutting down on buying so many games at once espcially when i'll only play some of them and i still have a backlog to go throgh :lol

Yeah, incredibly stupid decision from either Activision or Disney to release SS and Blur almost simultanously. I forgot which company made the ultimate decision to change the release date accordingly, but at least it was Activision who delayed Blur by 6 months or so. Either way, the release dates will hurt sales of both games.

DF analysis of the demo is live. Leadbetter indicates that the 360 version is running sub-HD at about 1280x672p while the PS3 version is HD at 1280x720p.

Get the PC version. If it's not a shoddy port. I don't know why they didn't release a PC demo.

I definitely would, but unfortunately I don't own a gaming rig atm. :(

Yet you find it "justifiable"?

Uh, yeah, since the game renders 1km^2 maps with huge draw distance and like... 256 players? Oh, yeah, also has antialiasing.

huh that weird :/

look like PS3 is the lead version , even that the studio was always showing 360 version mostly to the press.

They said Pure was lead on PS3. A lot of the guys there are ex Criterion too, you know how much those guys love their PlayStations:lol

Which is odd since the game is using the Pure engine which was 720p on both versions. Looks like the reduction of 48 lines on the 360 version was to keep that frame rate at a constant 30FPS. If there's any consolation, the 360 version tears at 4% while the PS3 version comes in at 11%, but it's barely noticeable considering the location of the tearing.

It also says that the 360 has lower levels of tearing. I think that whichever version you buy, you're getting a great game.

Here's the DF report.

The reduced resolution in the 360 version probably doesn't make a noticeable difference, since 360 has a very good scaler that upscales to 720p with very good quality.

So, it's less tearing, a little smoother fps and a little better post process vs. a bit higher res. I'd go for 360 if you're going strictly by the numbers, although this difference is like 1% strong.

It may just be the capture, but is the 360 version missing the sky reflection on the windows of the skywalk?

edit: It's there, but it's just darker.

I fucking loved the demo. Slick presentation, the cars feel and handle powerfully, the powerplays are a great idea, as well as the integrated HUD.

Will definitely get the PC version down the line.

The shaky cam and the blackness circling the screen is annoying.

Will probably pick it up, as it was fun, but after a few more playthroughs of the demo Blur is still far superior.

I imagine they are just comparable to some of the better cars a normal player would unlock later, not better than that. Or even just the same cars you'd get by playing though the game.

So I gave the demo another chance and for some reason I liked it. Now I'll probably buy it from Amazon but before I do I would like to know if I buy both Read dead Redemption and Split Second I'll have 2 Gift cards with the Amount of $30, can I then use both of them at once to buy Blur ?

The cars in the PS3 version looks sharper but also more pronounced against the background. I hope it's a mixture of post processing and AA that makes the cars in the Xbox version look softer. When first playing the Xbox demo, I did think the game looked a bit low res though. I'd have to play the PS3 version too to be sure.

Or just buy the pc version.

I don't see why not, they normally add the credit a day or so after when the game ships.

I canceled my Dell pre-order. The game still looks fun, but I won't have time to play it. It will be $30 by the time I get around to playing it anyhow.

The blog post doesn't mention it, but there is MSAA (some oddities here and there). I'm not sure why it was omitted along with a couple other items, but I guess we'll cover it when/after retail/review code hits.

True. The one good thing is that it's been like this all year. I can't remember a year where there's been such a consistent string of at least one to two amazing games each month in a long time if ever.

I'm picking up 3DOT Heroes and will get Alan Wake, RDR and SMG2 in the coming weeks. S/S and Blur are on my maybe if it's $20 down the road list as it stands now.

i've played both the 360 and ps3 demos. you can't go wrong with either one. bravo to black rock for achieving such equality between platforms. anyway, am i missing something or is there no official thread for this?

Hmmm... mixed feelings about the demo. I liked Pure a lot (great game which looked amazing) so i was curious to see and try Blackrock's next game.

Like with Pure, the presentation is great. Visually, it looks really nice allthough not as a nice as Pure (which seems understandable, with all the destruction going on). It seems a bit rough around the edges (literally). Still, great.

As a game, it certainly has that "one more time" feeling for me so i played the demo quite a lot. But somehow, i wonder if it will keep being interesting after a while.

Not sure yet. The demo has not convinced me in either way (buy or not) so far so i'll definately keep an eye on reviews and good purchase deals.

Also, respect to Blackrock for equal performance on both consoles. As a ps3 only user, it is something of a rarity and can't be applauded enough.

Split/Second is an explosive shot of distilled arcade energy; it’s action that’s fuelled by the slick production of the Hollywood a-list, and racing that’s infused with an infectious amount of fun. Armed with nothing more than a handful of dynamite, developer Black Rock has shook up the racing genre in much the same way that Criterion did nearly nine years ago with the original Burnout.

The demo is really growing on me. The game is a lot more enjoyable in "in car" view.

Does anybody know if there are replays in the game?
