Splitgate 2's Rough Launch Leads To Layoffs And Bosses Not Taking A Salary

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Splitgate 2 developer 1047 Games has revealed that it has made a series of job cuts. This comes just two weeks after the launch of Splitgate 2, and suggests that the game is not performing as well as projected.

On top of this, 1047 co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian say that they will not take a salary, as post-launch development of Splitgate 2 continues. The studio says that it is still "committed to building" the game going forward, despite the layoffs.

"Today we parted ways with a small group of valued 1047 Games team members," reads a statement put on the company's LinkedIn page. "We are sad to see our teammates go, and we are actively working to help them secure new opportunities. Further, our co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian have opted not to take salaries as we lock in to deliver the next phase of the project."

1047 is vague on why this was done, saying that the studio is "redirecting resources" so it can improve Splitgate 2. There is no mention of the poor launch of the game, but we already know that it's struggling to pick up players on Steam.

Wasn't this the edgy guy at sgf?

Edit: yes

The game is good go play it GAF!!!!
Why? I am looking for a new shooter so genuinely open to being convinced. I hated Apex, largely because I sucked and MM made it impossible to win most times. I like Halo, I like BF. I did play BLOPS6 online for a bit but just got left behind and haven't revisited.

Solid everything plus some "Portal" stuff/mechanics.

Reviews are quite negative overall, and it's failed to retain players after the SGF bump.

Hard to see them coming back from this.

Try it it's free

well... they alienated me, a big fan of the first game, by adding weapon unlocks, perk unlocks, ability unlocks, character abilities and loadouts.

Splitgate 2 is to Splitgate what Halo 4 was to Halo... a slap in the face of the original fans, and a desperate attempt at copying trends

It started with Halo Reach.

It started with Halo Reach.

yes, but Reach wasn't the big new game. it was the prequel that was reduced in scope. I mean, most (actually I think all...) MP maps were just recycled parts from the campaign missions. you could tell it wasn't meant to be the big new entry, and just a smaller final goodbye by Bungie

also Reach at least didn't have unlockables and no weapon or perk loadouts in the normal modes. yes the armor abilities sucked, but it was mild compared to what Halo 4 did.

Game has putrid unappealing art style choices. I've never seen a battle pass or micro store where I literally do not want to buy a single thing or want to use it even if it was free.

The game just isn't what the market wants right now to boot.

Anyone could've seen this was dead on arrival. It's a game that gets a small boost anytime someone like summit1g plays then is dead the moment he bails after 1-2 days of playing.

There is nothing for players to connect to here. No characters, story, lore, etc. It's just mindless and dull.

They took the original game off the market just as Halo was in it's weakest spot ever.

Then the re-reveal trailer made the game look too gay.

I think they course-corrected, but the damage was done.
Moving forward there will be a big white board in every artist room saying "if your shit looks like the saints row reboot change it before anyone sees it"

I guess I don't understand what you mean by big new game. I just see Halo 4 as the next iteration in the franchise. Was it advertised as some big new thing or departure from normal Halo?

Also, not saying you, but I feel like a lot of people try and play down the impact Reach had so as to give Bungie a pass and only lay the blame on 343. Excluding the timeline, Halo 4 was the byproduct or natural succession of Reach. For me, bloom in Reach and the idiotic armor abilities far outweighed anything negative in Halo 4. But I do agree that Halo 4 was chasing trends when they should have held to the traditional Halo formula. It was like 343 hedged by trying to tame back some of the things from Reach while also continuing others as not to completely alienate either side of the argument. I don't want to derail this thread any further, but I was able to enjoy Halo 4 for many reasons. One, I thought the campaign was good. Two, movement and mechanics felt so much better. It was silky smooth and the aim was tight (a vast improvement over Reach's obese spartans that could barely jump or aim).

Genre burnout. Doesn't matter how good it is people have their go to and it will take a miracle butter fly effect of just some random kids somewhere proclaiming a game good that catches on to make the next big one.

Reach got a pass by many (including me) because the improved Forge was a breath of fresh air, and Invasion was an interesting new mode

Bloom (especially pre TU) was a shitshow yes, and the geneal movement felt a bit weird, but it at least didn't completely throw the Halo formula out the window.

Halo 4 was basically not even Halo anymore. the campaign missions were way more corridor like AND HAD QTEs!!!... the multiplayer just straight up copied everything from CoD (loadouts, perks, unlocks, killstreaks, no weapons on the map etc) and Forge was actually worse due to the custom mode options being reduced to such a degree, that you couldn't even make Infection at launch.
then they patched in infection, but again with reduced settings options fur custom games.

so it wasn't surprising that Halo 4 lost players faster than any other game in the seires, and was promptly overtaken by its predecessors again.

it's one thing to make the same formula worse like Reach did... that's disappointing and annoying.
but it's a completely different level of fuckery to abandon essentially everything that Halo originally was like Halo 4 did.

I sometimes say Halo Infinite isn't a Halo game, or joke "they should make a new Halo, it's been 15 years already" and stuff like that, which is obviously hyperbolic... but when I say Halo 4 isn't a Halo game, I don't think I'm being hyperbolic at all. Splitgate 1 is more similar to Halo 1-3 than Halo 4 is.

It's not just that, but also arena shooters specifically are just not doing big numbers anymore.

If people are playing shooters, they are either playing CSGO-esque shooters, co-op shooters, or BRs.

How dare you call this game an aim assisted shit show without portals clone??

a clone can improve on the original ;)
it's undeniably a clone tho. they literally had 1 to 1 copies of Halo guns in the first game, without a single exception.

the second game sadly is a Halo 4 clone :(

If it's improved (vastly, gladly) it can't be a clone. 🤷‍♂️

That little thrust on top of the retarded "moon gravity" jumps?? It's like comparing CoD with Titanfall mobility.

doesn't change the fact that Splitgate 1 was a blatant Halo copycat with 1 original idea added.
and that's not a bad thing... that's why I loved it... and it's why I think Splitgate 2 is trash, because they ditched the Halo formula, just like Halo 4 did

Well, gladly this is not Splitgate 1 so not a clone of a trash game.

not Splitgate 2 no.
I'd rather play Halo 5 than Splitgate 2, and that's saying something.

who wants yet another loadout shooter? another game with constant slide cancelling? another shooter with fucking hero ultimates?
if I wanna play something like that, I'll just reinstall Black Ops 3.

Makes more sense than play any shooter with forced aim assist. What is even the point in playing a shooter with assist fooling me??

Dreamland. Your contention requires that Splitgate 1 was even a thing to begin with.

I don't understand what is with all this GAS trend games & they all fail hard.
Just bring back old quake III & unreal tournament games, we need that mindless fun......

I remember installing The Finals and thinking it was brilliant. That first evening session we had, it was the best online shooter I'd played in ages. Never played it again.
