Spore screenshots.

What the hell--that link keeps forwarding me to an Adobe Reader download site. Which is strange, because I've got 7.0 on my comp, and every other pdf on the web auto-laods Adobe for me. :p

He said he couldn't directly link. Just copy paste, people....and read first posts.
It's not even a big post -_-

on topic: It looks great. I love the concept and I hope they can pull it off. Hope this is nothing like a grandioso Molyneux project that gets stripped down every update and in the end turns out to be an average game.

I would have sworn he was talking about direct linking the images not the article

i can't believe the room was as packed as everyone keeps saying and not a SINGLE person managed to video any of this? :(

Looks great, but...the screen showing the different vehicles. Both sets are rounded and kind of cute. Is that the way it's going to be? I guess it doesn't matter, but when I read descriptions of the game and the differences between this steel fortress and the nicer city, I was sort of expecting larger differences.

I just thought the warlike, industrial civilisation would differ more, with angular, mean looking vehicles etc. If the creation tool always makes things smooth and rounded (an assumption based off little, I know), then that's great for the creatures, but not so much for the vehicles.

Other than that though, very excited. The screen showing the different creatures you can design is particularly impressive.

I'm sure the vehicle toolset allows angular instead of rounded shapes. The creature toolset is the interesting one though, creating walking animation based on user created shapes? Nifffty.

I'm floored.

Seriously. The whole concept sounds amazing! I'm surprised we haven't had a game like this before!

I'm completely floored. Sounds like Will drew on the customization of Alpha Centauri quite a bit.. something I've been dying to see in a game again for a long time (he just takes it to a whole new level).

Looks a huge dream coming true, I always thought games would be like this on the future (among flying cars and cool robotic houses).

Go Will!! I trust you!!

It seems to be a combination of (using the aforementioned games ;)) Seventh Cross (DC), Alpha Centauri and E.V.O.

Really anxious to find out how it turns out eventually... It could turn out to be another big thing! My only hopes are that it's not being published by EA :p

PS: Hopes that seem to be futile :(

Will is discovering a whole new genre here. It's been implemented in other games, but not to this extent. That genre is customization. It's giving the player absolute control over everything and I love it. The question is, what if you civilization gets wiped out? :'(

Im not totally convinced that this project will actually produce one great game, i think its more likely to make 4 or 5 ok games in one package.

Thats not to say the vision isnt great, its just in terms of gameplay, people have tried to make games that span multiple geners lots of times and it rarely ever works, and this seems to be spanning more genres than most.

Mind you i guess it wouldnt be the first time Will Wright did something no one else could.

Hahahaha!
That could be the quote they put on the front of the box, just changed a tiny bit : "It's like a Peter Molyneux game, but without the bastard.. and it DOES deliver!!". :D

I was going to say something along the same line. I don't get it. Doesn't even seem as ambitious as your typical Peter Molyneux game. A glorified chatroom is still a glorified chatroom. I'm assuming this a MMORPG, right?

How do you get MMORPG from the pics and comments?! It looks like a single player game.

You have to be joking. Did you even read any of the previews?

edit: i just realized that none of the original articles are linked in this thread. read this.

After reading the GameSpy article, I could do nothing more but praise the vision of Mr Wright. My god, coding games this way opens up a whole new universe... I think....

This whole idea seems a bit too ambitious at first, but so far, from what I've read, it truly is going to deliver what he set out to do.

It mentioned worlds created by other users, so I followed that trail. Seems I was mistaken. Sorry.

I had the same idea when reading certain parts, but I also read that the game derives new content from a database. Really ambitious, and it could prove to be very very very addicting... As are most of Wright's games actually :)

This game sounds awesome, I hope it'll be released this year. as ambitious as it sounds, it also sounds very do-able.

Can't wait to see some direct-feed vids of this in action. seems like the ultimate time waster.

I like that it's going to allow users to make their own creatures and vehicles, but those examples were made by professionals. My creatures will probably be blobs of matter roughly in the shape of a penis, ditto for the vehicles..

Damn, that's a huge scope. It'd be a minor miracle if all the parts actually turned out great... of course, if all the parts actually turned out great, the game will be a minor miracle in return.

You simply have to applaud this game's concept, even if it does seem a little "weird". Scrolling down through those screens, I had no idea where the scope of the game was headed until I looked at them all. It's simply brilliant.
