I'm a football junkie in the worst way. I even follow college recruiting closely. I'm a huge Georgia Bulldogs fan and Atlanta Falcons fan. My favorite venue is Sanford Stadium for it's aesthetics. Although I also like Everbank Stadium in Jacksonville simply on location.

1. Atlanta Falcons / Georgia Bulldogs (My college)

2. Atlanta Braves

3. Atlanta Thrashers (fuck you hockey)

4. Atlanta Hawks

5. Atlanta United F.C. / Seattle Reign

Football - NFL or NCAA Football? I like both, though I tend to watch more NFL than NCAA. My favorite teams are the Indianapolis Colts (I'm a season ticket holder) in the NFL, along with the Vanderbilt Commodores (I'm an alumnus) and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the NCAA.

Baseball - I used to be a pretty big Cubs fan, but then we moved and I don't really like baseball anymore.

Hockey - I like the NHL but I don't really have a team. Maybe the Detroit Red Wings if I'm forced to choose. I just like watching the NHL playoffs.

Basketball - I'm a big Indiana Pacers fan. It's going to suck over the next few years, I think lol.

Soccer - Don't care about MLS. I watch the World Cup but I don't really care.

My answers in bold.

I have a hard time choosing my favorite stadiums/venues for sports. I had a great time at the Big House in Ann Arbor with the University of Michigan for football. I love Lucas Oil Stadium and Banker's Life Fieldhouse, but I'm biased there and I don't have a TON of comparison.

4. NCAA Football - Iowa Hawkeyes
5. I don't know much about other sports, but I do know that Baseball is a bad sport.

Football: Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL. Ohio State Buckeyes in college football.

Basketball: Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA. Wright State University Raiders and the University of Dayton Flyers in college. They are smaller, mid-major colleges so you don't see them much on the national level, but they are fun to follow locally. I grew up going to games at both colleges.

Baseball: Cincinnati Reds

(big gap)

Football - NFL, New York Giants
Hockey - NHL, New York Rangers
Baseball - MLB, New York Yankees
Soccer - MLS, no thanks. Will watch a little Champions League and World Cup. No favorite club.

Following the NBA alone can be a year long pastime, my favorite to play as well. All other spectator sports fell by the wayside little by little once I realized basketball was the best sport.

No college basketball, or college sports in general, outside of checking out prospects. Didn't go to a school that had a big atheltic dept, the NCAA as big business always felt a bit shady and the level of play isn't strong enough for me to care without a team to root for.

Baseball is the one I watch the least on TV but end up at the most live games. Will catch a few Mets games each summer at Citi Field with friends even if I'm completely out of the loop.

I just spoke to Alabama football, and she says "fuck you" back. She agreed about "fuck Ohio State," though.

LA Kings, Dodgers and Rams. I'm not really into basketball or soccer. If I could only follow one team it would be the Kings, but the Dodgers are a close second. The Rams are like watching a car wreck in slow motion.

Can answer my own question as well. In the order i like the enjoy the most.

1. Football - Dallas Cowboys is my team, i'm a huge fan since the glorious season of '07 that ended with Giants beating us out of the playoffs and ended up winning Super Bowl. So fuck the Giants, team i hate the most. Also root for the Texas Longhorns.
2. Soccer - I follow the premiership, not a fan of any teams. But i hate Man Utd.
3. Baseball - Newly found sport for me, follow and root for the Red Sox as in the OP.
4. Hockey - Dallas Stars but hockey has become boring.

Golden Domers are chickenshit!!
Thats not what she told me last night!
I didn't say she'd fuck Ohio State, which is why you and Urban Meyer got the "no" last night to your proposed threesome.

She said "fuck Ohio State." Which means, well, fuck Ohio State.

NHL: Vancouver Canucks. It's the only sport I regularly follow, despite the dismal seasons we've had over the past few years. (And will continue to have)
NFL: Seattle Seahawks. I'm a very casual football fan, and will only really semi-watch playoff games.
MLB. Seattle Mariners. I hate baseball, and the thought of sitting through an entire game seems like torture. But despite that I went to my first ever baseball game at Safeco field last year and it wasn't bad. Also I support the Mariners mainly out of spite for all the Blue Jays band-wagoners we have in Vancouver. I refuse to support any team based in Toronto.
MLS: Vancouver Whitecaps. Been to a few games, was okay for soccer I guess.

Football - NCAA - Tennessee Volunteers

Baseball - Atlanta Braves

Everything else is meh.

Favorite stadium I've been to is Neyland Stadium. Biased, I know, but the feels yo. Watching the Vols play the Hokies at Bristol Motor Speedway was a cool spectacle as well

Why don't both of you post in the CFB thread? Also, check out our podcast. We'll be restarting it soon for season 2. The Decided Schematic Advantage. Though the name will be changing.

What is your favourite team sports to follow and watch on TV or live? Best venue you have been to? And so on.

Football - NFL - Atlanta Falcons, College - Georgia Bulldogs

Baseball - Atlanta Braves

Hockey - Hate hockey

Basketball - NCAA I guess. Georgia Bulldogs

Soccer - Atlanta United

The only team sport I follow is NFL football, and my boys are the Packers. Can't speak for a favorite venue, as I'm too poor to have gone to a Packer home game, and only went to a single NFL game after winning Packers/Vikings tickets (in the dome that later imploded).

In order of what I enjoy watching:

1. NBA - My team is the Indiana Pacers, but honestly I just watch whoever is entertaining. Seen a lot of GSW games the last couple years.

Packers/Cowboys? Goddamn that is going to be a great game (and should set the tone for the rest of the season).

I am so fucking cursed. The sports gods despise me.

What do you even mean by this? Cowboys don't have that many fans!

Is this sarcasm? The only other teams with national followings that come CLOSE, in ANY sport are the Raiders and the Yankees.

NFL - Patriots and Packers

NBA - Celtics

MLB - Don't really follow baseball but enjoy watching a game at Fenway

NHL - I'll hop on the bandwagon when the Bruins are in the playoffs

In OP's order:

Football: Don't watch much, college or pro, but it'd be nice to see the Browns do something other than lose all the time. As an Ohio native I'll root for the Buckeyes.

Baseball: The Cleveland Indians. Last year still hurts, thanks. Probably my strongest emotional bond as far as sports teams go. I want a Tribe World Series more than anything.

Hockey: The back-to-back Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins. I moved from OH to western PA a decade ago and the new friends I met are really into hockey so I used it as a bonding mechanism and a way to distract myself from homesickness. Now they are the sports team I watch the most, I watch most regular season games and never miss Cup playoff game.

Basketball: The Cavs. Not a big basketball guy but I was happy for the good folk of NE Ohio to see a CLE team win a professional championship.

Soccer: Not big on it. My best friend is a big Liverpool fan though, so regardless of whether I want them or not I get frequent updates on them. So if I had to pick a soccer team it would be them.

As for seeing sports live nothing beats hockey in my book. There isn't a bad seat in the house at Consol Energy Center, but during a trip to LA I seen a Kings game at Staples Center and was blown away. That place is top notch, probably my most memorable venue. I do need to get to Fenway, but PNC Park (Pirates) is a nice park and is on the opposite side of the river with a good view of downtown.

As there seems to be some canadians in the thread, how is CFL compared to NFL. In the eyes of Canadians that is.
It probably depends where you live. BC has the Seahawks nearby, and Ontario has either the Lions or Bills depending on where you are in the province. The Toronto Argonauts drew 10k fewer fans than Toronto FC at the same stadium, and anecdotally, the Argos are mostly forgotten about.

This would be vastly different in places like Saskatchewan or even Hamilton, where they don't have a bunch else going on.

Personally, one of my issues with the CFL is that they try really hard with the advertising all over TSN to make it look like the NFL, like showing all these young people watching at home and talking about their CFL fantasy teams, but the reality is more like junior hockey. Cowbells ring throughout the game, and on TV I'd basically have to mute the audio. It's bush league dressed up like big league.

What is your favourite team sports to follow and watch on TV or live? Best venue you have been to?
Favorite team sport to follow is hockey, I love it live but I mostly follow it just on TV.

Overall favorite venue I've been to is Kinnick Stadium for the atmosphere, but Busch III for the structure itself. Honestly though, I haven't been to that many venues.

Football:
NFL - Dallas Cowboys, Venue - Texas Stadium
NCAA Football - Iowa Hawkeyes, Venue - Kinnick Stadium (only other venue I've been inside was Northwestern's Dyche Stadium/Ryan Field to play lacrosse. It sucked.)

Baseball
MLB - Cincinnati Reds, Venue - Busch Stadium III
MiLB - Quad City River Bandits, Venue - Modern Woodman Park
NCAA - Iowa Hawkeyes, can't really comment on venues because the only one I've been to was Iowa's Duane Banks Field while working.

Hockey
NHL - Detroit Red Wings, Venue - United Center
ECHL - Quad City Mallards, Venue - Hara Arena (Dayton, OH)
NCAA: Whenever Gary Barta pulls his head out of his ass, Iowa Hawkeyes, until then, any Big Ten team that's not Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Penn State. Venue - Haven't been to any, but Notre Dame's Compton Family Ice Arena looks cool on TV.

Basketball
NBA: No real favorite, like San Antonio, Boston, Indiana, Venue: TD Garden
NCAA: Iowa Hawkeyes, Venue: Carver Hawkeye Arena

Soccer
MLS: No real favorite, like DC, Chicago, maybe Seattle
NCAA: Iowa Hawkeyes (women only), Venue: Iowa Soccer Complex
Non-US: Favorite: Tottenham Hotspur, Follow: Borussia Dortmund, Sporting CP, AS Roma, Cruz Azul

And if all of the teams I follow were playing at once, I'd probably watch in this order (assuming no championship implications):
  • Iowa Hawkeye football
  • Detroit Red Wings
  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Tottenham Hotspur
  • Quad City Mallards
  • Iowa Hawkeye basketball
  • Borussia Dortmund
  • Iowa Hawkeye wrestling
  • Random NCAA lacrosse
  • Cincinnati Reds
  • Iowa Hawkeye baseball
  • Iowa Hawkeye field hockey
  • Iowa Hawkeye women's soccer
  • AS Roma
  • Major League Lacrosse
  • Random NHL
  • MLS
  • Random NFL
  • NBA
  • Sporting CP
  • Cruz Azul
  • Random MLB

Football - NFL, San Francisco 49ers. Been to games at Candlestick Park and Oakland Coliseum.

Baseball - MLB, Los Angeles Dodgers. Last game i went to was 8 years ago.

Hockey - Dont really watch hockey but I've been to a LA Kings Game

Basketball - NBA, Los Angeles Lakers. Last game I went to was during their last Championship run, Game 1 round 2 vs Utah Jazz

Soccer - Liga MX, Chivas de Guadalajara and in La Liga, Real Madrid. Watched the Chivas play here in the US a few times.

I generally prefer TV to live with exception of baseball which I barely watch anymore in any setting. Although I used to be a fan, college sports pretty much suck...why watch kids who aren't good at what they are trying to do? Waste of time - I can always run down to a field/court/pitch locally if I want to watch kids trying hard but playing badly.

Football - 49ers

Baseball - Giants and/or A's. Used to be huge into baseball but have lost most interest...very much an industrial age sport (doesn't really reward 21st century skills such as collaboration, creativity, communication).

Hockey - Not really a fan. Go to a Sharks game on a rare occasion and that is fun.

Basketball - Golden State Warriors (no, not bandwagon...I'm old and have always supported them).

Soccer - Love the sport and will watch MLS but prefer european first division. Favorite team is Barcelona.

My favorite sport to follow is soccer (Whether watching my local team live or watching it on TV)

Best sports venue/experience I've had is going to Estadio Azteca this past June for the World Cup Qualifier match between the US and Mexico. I will never forget that weekend and game. Just awesome.

Football - NFL. I might watch a CFB game every so often if I'm that bored. Favorite team is the New York Giants.

Baseball - MLB. I've heard that lower league games are fun to attend but I haven't had a chance to. Favorite team is the New York Yanquis. (Shout-outs to The Council.)

Hockey - NHL. New York Rangers.

Basketball - NBA. NCAA Basketball around tournament time and random games that are on. Favorite team is the...*sighs* New York Knicks.

Soccer - MLS is the top league in the US, but there are teams in sports markets that are in the USL and NASL (America's 2nd division leagues. There's 2 new leagues which will become the 3rd division coming soon and then a variety of other smaller leagues as well. Our soccer structure is...different.). Lots of people follow leagues in other countries (myself included), whether it be Liga MX, the European leagues, or the South American leagues, so there's always a league to follow. My favorite team is the New York Red Bulls because they're my local team, but I also support Arsenal, Sky Blue FC in the NWSL (National Women's Soccer League), and the USMNT/USWNT (and then have smaller interest in teams in other leagues)

What do you even mean by this? Cowboys don't have that many fans!

Haha yeah right. The Cowboys franchise is #1 in worth as of last year by almost a BILLION dollars over New England.

Living here in the DC area you'd think we're a fucking sister city to Dallas or something.

Yes, they have a lot of fans. It's "America's team", remember?

What is this unholy combination?

With baseball secondary, I like both pretty equally and im from Alabama without a deep connection to either.
I grew up liking the Yankees but was always hoping to see Boston break the curse, them finally doing it earned that spot.

Honestly im a bit weird with the NFL as well
1. Patriots - my team, just the team I connected with the first time I really got into NFL.
2. Cowboys - team my family raised me on
3. Saints - Family was big on Louisiana and New Orleans, my dad played a few preseason games with them.
4. Giants - I don't even know why really.

I have a question for US GAF

I'm watching ''All or Nothing' on Amazon at the moment.

I'm trying to understand the NFL drafts.

In football (soccer) if you want to buy a player you make an offer and it's accepted you talk to the player who will usually accept etc.

In NFL it appears teams all take turns to buy a player? Does a player have any choice? Presumably that means some poor guy is the last chosen player?

If a team wants a player from a different team - can they do it via drafts?

It was a bit of a joke ;)... but i have never felt Cowboys being that prevelant When i've been to the US. Finding Cowboys merch was a tedious task when i was to NYC and Boston. Outside of Dallas area i have never seen their presence being dominant.

It's obvious theyre popular in social media and on NFL broadcast, as theyre so often in prime tv slots. But theyre the team that is shat on the most on NFL Facebook threads.
