Spr0ng strikes again!!: Xbox 360: Downloadable Demos From Day One

Come to think of it, why is it that Wal-Mart tends to have the shittiest prices on games, movies, and music? By all accounts, they are constantly twisting the arms of everyone else to get the lowest price.....but it seems they are usually pretty content to charge the same as everyone else. Fuck, even Target has a decent game or DVD sale once in a blue moon, but Wal-Mart almost always sticks you with MSRP. Given their price-slashing mentality, I think the answer is that the margin is too small to withstand any significant cuts and they don't believe in using games as loss-leaders like Best Buy does.

They might start soon because of dropping market share. But there are a few reasons why they don't.

1) They already have a ~25% (but it is dropping) market share, so if they had sales on games, they would lose a TON of money that they're already guaranteed to get.

2) Outside of urban areas, they are frequently THE ONLY local resource for getting games.

3) They don't really do weekly circulars in Sunday papers or even have "regular" sales relative to other retailers. They do this to save money and rely on "daily" unadvertised sales many times.

10% margin seems a bit slim......though 100% margin is equally absurd. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle (and variable depending on the volume that the store deals in).

Wifi out of the box would be nice....but does it mean that the ethernet port would be completely nixed?

A 10% margin would explain why gamestore employees seem obligated to make you feel inbred for choosing to purchase a new game rather than something from their used inventory.

Out of interest, which store do you manage? Do you do the payroll. If so, can I have a job please?
Only kidding son! :)

I hope he gives you a job, only to slap you back into a god fearing respectable citizen. Have some manners pops.

I was never god-fearing. Been respectable for about three months yesterday though. So I'm making some progress.

What's so "unbelievable" about this rumour?
It's the next logical step in consoles evolution, PC have demos since when? 1989?

I'd easily bet $200 that this is true. Not so sure about the "free" part, though.
