Huh, didn't know the Urushihara thing. I was actually talking to a hardcore Transformers fan I knew that weekend I was going through Obari stuff and it was crazy how he was just automatically familiar with the ep (to the point of instantly recalling the title) due to the better production values. I agree with him it's a shame the entire show didn't look that nice.
Yeah, the production values are the same reason I can still recall the title as well. I liked different episodes but can't remember what the titles were called. The show probably would have been actually pretty great if it had those kind of production values every episode.
The movie being a movie naturally has pretty good production values higher than that of the show as well. It takes place between season 2 and 3 and is actually part of the main story and not some kind of filler or extra. It's also much darker or mature in tone which carries on into the third season.
People complain about
PreCure being pretty transparent with it's ideas to use the show to sell toys but
Transformers was used for the exact same purpose. Later in the second season new characters are just suddenly there as part of the Autobots and Decepticons without any kind of introduction. New characters are introduced in the third season and others just disappear without any explanation in the show where in reality it was to promote the new toys.
Devastator is formed from the constructicons and you showed the Predaking animation but there's even a few more giant characters formed in the same way in season 3. One episode where you see most of them and all their combining it really just seems to scream that "buy our toys!".
Going back to the production values, you'll not only notice episodes with lower quality art and janky animation but lots of errors as well. There's often colouring errors such as you might see Optimus's chest as blue instead of the usual red. The stock animation is also sometimes backwards. The autobots might be in vehicle mode, then the stock animation is shown from them going from robot to vehicle mode and then suddenly you now see them in robot mode. The opposite will also happen. In one scene in an episode of season 3 you see Galvitron with an autobot symbol on his chest instead of the decepticon symbol.
I'm not really a hardcore fan of Transformers but I like it because of the idea and robots are cool in general. It was kind of funny then to see the whole show and watch the live action movies and realize something like the story to Transformers 3 is basically three different episode stories from the original show kind of formed into one with some original content mixed in. Then again nobody is really watching them for the stories anyway, haha.
But was it made by a guy that you're obviously in love with but are afraid to admit so?!
Haha, I would have to say that's a no in my case.
Hah, yeah. I'm almost wondering if we will have any crossover shows this season, because it's not like there's anything good to watch (if these first few shows are any indication). Having common ground would make things easier, but since we only do these things twice a week and we mostly shoot the shit for ourselves, so watching anime shouldn't feel like an obligation.
Yeah, the episodes I've listened to are probably the fifth and sixth episodes of podcasts I've ever listened to total, haha. I see that the newest episode is up and I listened to the first half an hour now of the first podcast and will have to get back to the rest later at some point. The only thing I can think of so far there is that it's nice that Crazy Canuck seems to be enjoying
From the New World and is kind of promoting it a little.
It's funny, because for the most part, all the character tropes are mostly reserved in jdrama form. They're still exaggerated, but the jdrama genki girl is not like the animu genki girl.
Yeah, it's true that they're not usually as extreme. Although the odd one seems to try, haha.
Yeah Mio is 160 cm tall. The only character taller than her in K-ON! is Sawako who's like only about two inches taller.
You don't really notice their size difference that much when they're all sitting around the table, but
Oreki seems to be almost a head taller than Chitanda.
Ah, yeah, she does look shorter there. I guess Irisu is just taller for a Japanese girl as well then because you can she she's taller than Chitanda and shorter than Oreki but not that much shorter.
