Regarding Gargantia, couldn't they have made their space age tech look cool? The levitation system being a giant ball above the mecha's head is so lame and it's weapons are so uninspired, it just fires lasers from everywhere. I'm usually not that interested in mecha designs. I prefer stompy, slow, tank-like mechs over clean futuristic stuff and bullets and explosions are always better than lasers, but the robotic equivalent of a seal balancing a ball on it's nose it just too lame.

Well, with any luck, Gargantia wont focus much on the actual tech aspect at all. I dig Ledo's(?) mecha as far as it exists in the dichotomy of it's setting presently, but any battles are sort of wasted with the CG being so unappealing at a base level.

Ikuhara x Brains Base or gtfo. I want Ikuhara to direct Sengoku Collection S2.

I will send BB an angry letter if this happens.

I think the lasers are cool as fuck. Much more functional than the typical laser-rifle being wielded in a humanoid hand.

As for its aesthetics, the intentional contrast between the fleet and the mecha means that the slow, grubby, tank-like mechanics was never going to happen for Chambers. I don't dig how the robot looks, but the way it works is fine by me.

Still excited for the show. It's got a lot of potential outside of its mecha action.

Never been a fan of lasers. Always loved the big miniguns, missile pods and thrusters. The brute force and impact wows me. That's why I've always enjoyed the Mechwarrior designs, especially the Timberwolf and Catapult. But you're right it does suit the scenario, the ball still looks really stupid though.

I just wish someone would make a stompy mech show.

I need to restart my VOTOMS marathon.

I feel the "boring action" in Gargantia is kinda intentional. It's certainly not trying to be a cool mecha vs mecha action show, and the weapons and mobility of the mechs all seem to be designed for efficiency in war rather than exciting combat. The exciting action in the show will probably come from the naval and aerial aspects of the technology on Earth. I expect there to be more flier combat set pieces later on, because Murata loved to use those in FMA Milos too.

Okay, so is the ugliness intentional too?
No one ever said that we could only suggest first-time collaborations!
As long as Gotoh doesn't help him ever again!

Me as well.

I could definitely look past sub-par mecha combat if there was some nicely done guerrilla warfare and naval battles. Suddenly i'm more excited for more Gargantia.

I think the ugliness is probably a side effect of it being so boring in the first place though. If the action is more interesting and engaging on screen, I think people would be less bothered by the "ugly" designs. Either way, it doesn't really excuse it, but I think if it's intentional then it's a trade off the show is willing to take to make a point, even if the scenes with the mechs in it aren't as enjoyable.

Hey, the Valvrave OP Gotoh did is pretty sweet!

Truth bombs.

Truth hurts, ask Kayos.

Date a Live 02

Date a Live > SAO.

This show is a ton of fun to watch.

Damn right nakama.

It's ridiculously stupid, it's basically a better version of TWGOK.

Whoa hold up, lets not get to crazy, not yet!

You're gonna put SAO on the same tier as Magi? T_T

Yeah you're right, SAO should be below it.

I think I already mentioning that

"Forgettable tier
a lot of money slaving work from aniplex"

I do enjoy it as guilty pleasure

Da fuck you hating on Nagi and Zange and Kannagi?

Weren't you weeping into your duckroll dakimakura just the other day when he was showing love towards DTL?

Did you not even read the one post above yours? :Akari~n

I saw that post. I don't get how that calls for an updated pairing list though.

Well I hope we're all mature enough here to understand that in the end its all about the staff and budget involved. Even DEEN for some reason produced 3 solid episodes of Sankarea before succumbing to mediocrity. Using studios is a good shorthand for judging output though.

I suppose that is true. I know that if Shaft is involved it will most likely be very interesting and very cute, but a bit lacking in production quality.

Sword Art Online: Lisbeth was pretty cool.

Yes, she is.

Sakurasou's first half, particularly first 5-6 episodes were really good and fun.

Best team 4 life.

Kara no Kyoukai had really good music. And Miyuki Sawashiro as Shiki was awesome.

NAturally, as the soundtrack was by Yuki Kajiura and Kalafina.

Gargantia is the least like a traditional mech show. Valvrave and MJP are expected to follow those patterns, but Gargantia was clearly more about the Earth world and drawing it possibly into the interstellar war going on.

Yeah damn it. Hating on Kannagi makes me sad :( Fun characters, good art and animation, decent writing for a harem show, neat music, and consistent quality. Its a good show.
