At some point in the future we should have a "say one nice thing that isn't a backhanded compliment about a show you otherwise dislike" day.

Toradora did have the best girl.

I'm probably in over my head with this since I didn't watch many shows last year BUT the original quote that bothered you was basically "JC Staff is not known for its consistent quality" which is true! JC Staff has been mediocre for a while and while I might grant you 2012 might have been a good year for them, its not like they're suddenly a great studio.

It bothered me because it's so easy to typify something in an offhanded way, and their recent output proves it's not always the case! And besides, Toradora was a good looking show for the most part, even if no one remembers anything outside of the Seiya Numata fight.

Well I hope we're all mature enough here to understand that in the end its all about the staff and budget involved. Even DEEN for some reason produced 3 solid episodes of Sankarea before succumbing to mediocrity. Using studios is a good shorthand for judging output though.

Macross 7 has a great opening. SAO had some cool fight scenes. Zetsuen no Tempest had a stellar first episode.

Dominators were actually really cool and killing scenes were awesome in PP.

Yeah, I think it was good looking, I just didn't find it particularly memorable aside from the fight

My lord, what is Akutabe's secret?

I think it could be option B.

Just going through things from last year:

Arcana Famiglia actually wasn't so bad if you a. didn't delude yourself into believing it would turn into a battle shounen at some point and b. are sexually attracted to men.

Shining Hearts: Shiawase no Pan actually tried to have a plot even if it crashed and burned and it was actually pretty reserved and tasteful outside of the designated swimsuit episode.

Brave 10 had Kamanosuke.

Symphogear had one of the manliest protagonists of 2012.

Another had amazing backgrounds and good atmosphere.

Nyaruko had the earworm OP of the year.

Zetsuen no Tempest's OST is mindblowingly great.

Campione! had quality 2D vehicle animation in its first episode.

I don't really have a show I actively dislike since I bail out as soon as things go south. Life is too short to waste energy on stuff you hate.

Its basically the Gundam SEED opening except they sped up the Flay parts and she wasn't insane.

Right, but at some level a great number of mecha shows follow this same procedure. Betterman just did it (loser stumbles across mecha while fleeing from demons), Rah Xephon does it (running from blue blooded goons and chasing Mishima leads to this) MSG and MSGA do it (no surprise that SEED and AGE do it since 79 did it.) and so on.

But not having a crazy Flay is good news to me, since Flay Allster was probably one of the worst parts of the show
Yes, she improves while with Rau and then Natarle, but that ridiculous out of body scene goes ahead and ruins her right back. Lalah Soone references be damned.

This conversation has led to me considering watching Un-Go. I vaguely remember people raging about it a few years back, just how terrible is it?
Someone save me.

Just watch the Nisemonogatari mashup of the ED on youtube and spare yourself the brain damage.

This show deserves more detailed praise than what I can give it right now, but damn...that's a hell of an effective way to end the episode on a rather contrasting note from the rest of its content. It is quite fitting too.

Still not loving all of the newly introduced characters, to be frank, but I am actively growing to like them a few steps at a time. Of course, Chamber and Ledo still rock on that front.

It seems almost petty to complain about the 3D at this point, but you know...at least the rest of this thing is great to look at, starting from the backgrounds.

I'm actually out of material. I'd need to watch more Bones stuff post-FMA:B to have anything else to say but why would I ever subject myself to that?

Basilius is right about Tempest! (unless I'm forgetting something)

Well you're not going to be able to pass up Space Dandy this Fall! :p
