Square Enix Ltd. – the European branch of Final Fantasy developer Square Enix, saw worsening financial losses in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025 (as reported by GameBiz).

Headquartered in London, UK, Square Enix Ltd. develops, publishes, distributes and licenses Square Enix content in Europe and other PAL territories. In the past fiscal year, the company posted an operating loss of 12.57 billion yen (over $87 million USD) and a net loss of 12.64 billion yen. Revenue was down 7% year-over-year.

The deficit margin has widened significantly compared to the previous fiscal year (April 2023 to March 2024), when Square Enix Ltd. reported an operating loss of approximately $50 million, and a net loss of roughly $47 million.

What did they release compared to the year before?
In 2024 they released:
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
  • FANTASIAN Neo Dimension
  • Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
  • Foamstars
  • SaGa: Emerald Beyond
  • Visions of Mana
  • Life is Strange: Double Exposure
  • Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail
  • Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven
  • Emberstoria
In 2025 they released so far:
  • SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered
  • Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles in September 2025
  • Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake in October 2025
So yeah no surprise here about their financials FFXIV subscription can only carry them for so much.

Not surprising.

They really need to look at their IP and output.

What madness is leaving Kingdom Hearts on the table. It's a powerful IP, where's the anime, the movie, stop wasting it on mobile crap. Of course, where is KHIV?
What's with FF? VII Rebirth is great, but what a turbulent ride. Narrow the scope, make a tighter game more often. Splitting VII and expanding so unnecessarily doesn't help.
FFIX sounds like another troublesome project, how, why... just remake it like that Mana game.

Loads of potential, but what are they even doing with it.

They have an overpriced merchandise like, games not selling, IPs left in limbo... so sad.

Edit: It's EU. Probably doesn't help those RPGs aren't that popular there.

Nothing to see here then.

I can't fucking wait.
Ehhhh I'm less excited about it now that I know that War of The Lions content won't be in there and because they admitted that they purposely left out War of the Lions content due to selfish ego because they weren't the one who added that content in the first place and a different team had done that.

I'll probably grab it on sale in a year or two but a release day purchase is off the table now.

When you don't release games and you arbitrarily make BD Remastered a Switch 2 exclusive when Switch 1 and its 150mil install base could easily run the game, this is what you get.

PSP version best version then.
Unfortunately no version is perfect and they had the chance to make THE most definitive version ever but they allowed their ego to get in the way of that.

- PS1 Version has the infamous bad translation that was worked on by two people and rushed in 6 months
- The PSP version has more content, a better translation and animated cut scenes but terrible loading times, missing sound effects and particle effects from the PS1 version and a strange bug where the game weirdly slow downs during spell casting
- The Mobile version of War of the Lions is still pretty much the same game with the only fix being is that they hard coded a speed up to try to fix the slow down issue during spell casting which does feel a little but better but they didn't fix the issue in the first place.
- This new version has voice acting, War of the Lions Translation instead of the PS1 script, change the Cloud event to happen much earlier in the game instead of him being recruited toward the end of the game and there might be other undisclosed changes to the story but it's otherwise missing the extra Single player and Multiplayer content from War of The Lions including stuff like Bathier from FFXII and the Dark Knight Job

It really is a shame. I think if they added all that and made the game have great performance it would probably be worth the $50...but it's more like it should be $25.

Should have gotten Gemdrops Inc. to do it. Star Ocean 2R is literally perfect.

I mean, it is kinda weird but I trust Matsuno to know what he's doing. Considering that he also will touch up the ending to make stuff less ambiguous for the retards, I think he wants to be ready when Square calls him back to make that FFT game about the Fifty Years' War.
