MachineGames latest financial report came out recently, and they're not very profitable.

Square Enix posted loss in years they released their big games. FF16 and Rebirth. What's going to happen to them in the future?

Sure but everybody knows SE was/is in financial trouble from their premium games and lives off FF14 online and mobile/remasters. You seem to be suggesting $2.6M is fine though for a studio that has none of that as backup? What would be the ROI on that as a studio? I would imagine very low depending on the budget of the game, could have made more simply putting it in the bank.

Of course they have stuff coming up. Indiana Jones is getting expansion this year that will sell some premium edition upgrades.

Also Indi will keep selling to PS / Steam users that want to own the game but want discounted price.

Back catalogue is how studios sustain themselves.

We all know MS is doing some funny accounting so who knows what the real situation is. That said, if Microsoft shuts them down, and I think they will, it's not going to be because of profitability. It's going to be because their games don't fit into Microsoft's future plans.

Never said anything remotely close to this.

In fact, I always rooted for NT (even under MS) and I've pre-ordered the PS5 edition of Hellblade 2.

So, there's that.

Oh, right, I forgot about your selective memory issues and how it's common for you to not remember what you said from one day to the next... 🤷

Please respect yourself, we were in this same situation a few months ago, and I don't feel like embarrassing you again by rescue your comments in threads about the closure of Ninja Theory 😉
Would be wiped out? Or could be on the chopping block?

All I said with certainty was that their games would flop, which they did.
As I said, there is a thread from very recently where you announced and strongly bet on the announcement of the closure of the aforementioned Studios..... Respect yourself a little, friend

I never said Sony was wrong for closing any of their studios.

As a matter of fact, I've always said those closures made perfect sense.

I didn't say you would say such a thing... I said that your eagerness, drive, and persistence in betting on and predicting the closure of Xbox studios is never appreciated when it comes to predicting and betting on the next studio Sony closes.

And no, you don't have to convince me. I'm clear that you're never going to argue or criticize Sony for closing a studio. You're simply always going to look for reasons to justify it.

There is one simple logical reason:
The Xbox brand is dying.

At this point, they're lucky MS has deep pockets and doesn't just close down shop entirely.
LOL. The only possible logic from someone like you. I mean, the one you'd like. You're very predictable. 🤣

The reality is that MS's closure of studios hasn't followed a clear criterion. That's why some have created so much controversy and disbelief.

The "Xbox is a brand in decline" argument would work if the closed studios were dedicated exclusively to releasing on XBOX consoles, but the reality is that, in general, these were studios that released their games on multiple platforms with the largest possible potential user base.

In short, you could come up with any other reason for the closure of those studios except the one you're presenting because it doesn't make sense.

So $41 million per year. Took 7 years to make Indiana Jones. That's $287 million.

Sold $40 million worth of copies for Indy.

That's a $247 million loss.

MachineGames is owned by the $4 trillion company Microsoft, and unlike most of the Xbox/MS Gaming division companies, they are turning a profit

They'll be just fine lol
Would be absolutely funny to see what Msft does to the larger pc to console market next gen with gp.
Economic indicators say only the top 20% are keeping us up; when they go kiss a percentage of aaa goodbye. Due to the fallout of investment flow.

Just quote me.

I don't keep track of every discussion I have.

Wolfenstein trilogy final chapter is fucked isn't?!
yes ....very much so.

I love single player fps games. I reject this company as they turned woke , like they were following reddit and era personalities or had them working on their games.

Wolfenstein The New Order - was amazing, as well as the DLC.

Wolfenstein 2 the new colossus - Story took a big nosedive with over dramatic characters and was the start of having Debra Wilson being shoved into every AAA 3rd party releases. It also latched on to the sjw movement to push sales in the marketing.

Young blood - total shit young woke b's on a quip filled killing journey. sure if you want to play as anoying era/reddit people be my guest. Down hill.

I loved Wolf3d, return to castle wolfenstein , 2009 wolfenstein was meh (wish it was still available to play on pc) the new order but had no desire to play the others after new order.

I suspect the next one will be worse if they follow the trajectory.

Although Indiana Jones , so far that I have played has been a good game. So there is some hope.

I liked wolfy2 well enough to want a sequel, yeah some parts were stupid but the game was still fun to me.

I didn't played bloodlines.

Same reaction as last time? "I don't remember what I say or where I said it." Only when I want to. Oh my goodness 🤣🤣

I'm sure you'll have no trouble "remembering" by checking your history 😉
Is this the discussion you were talking about?
Funny, I see I'm post #5 in that thread.

Guess I completely forgot about it.🤷🏾‍♂️

As for the rest of your post, I'm too tired to be dealing with that nonsense.

Fact is that pretty much every single
Xbox release this gen underperformed, coming off last-gen where they ended with duds as well.
I wouldn't be surprised to see layoffs or closures for Obsidian or any other underperforming studio.

Would be funny, because this stood out in one of your replies before the above one:
?? You were referring to a quote from someone who was claiming an upcoming wave of studio closures and layoffs at XBOX based on console sales... 🙃

Kind of a "heh", given the recent 9,000 layoffs at MS and Xbox.

Is this the discussion you were talking about?
Not such a bad memory, huh? Shame about the poor attempt to dodge the discussion...🤷

Of course, at the very moment you saw yourself with no way out... trying to divert the discussion 🙇

WoW!! You including MS company layoffs🤔🤣

-None of the studios you say would close have been closed - the one closed for a totally different reason than the one you're citing -at a time when the vast majority of publishers and studios are continually announcing layoffs... Congratulations on your exceptional success rate on your bets and predictions 🤣

PS. When are you making any bets and predictions about Sony studios that will close and layoffs? Or in those cases, is always your interest only in offering to people reasons why Sony is right to close these, why they deserve to be closed, why their closure is good news for PlayStation and the industry in general... And why is the same but different (.gif)??🤔🙇😉

Indy project was doomed from inception. They haven't been given a reasonable assignment in the entire time they've been owned by Microsoft. Indy was a terrible idea and they executed it about as best they could. But the game was cursed from the minute the design doc was turned in.

Take all the most boring and worst parts of a single player FPS campaign without any of the fun parts to make up for it. Gen X has some blind spot for Indiana Jones where they think it's some amazing motion picture franchise and IP, when in reality it was just a decent summer popcorn flick that no one else on earth remembers much or cares about.

It was just a simple 10 sec search.

Completely forgot about the discussion and even that I was having it with you.

Ofcourse, because I was referencing the 9,000 lay-offs, as that was mentioned in the headlines.
Naming MS was to specify that the 9K weren't strictly related to Xbox.

Be specific. Which studio are you even talking about?

And ultimately, most lay-offs at Xbox happening are the result of pisspoor performance of the division. Everything adds up.

Playstation isn't dying, so there is less need to speculate which studios close.
Maybe that's your problem: #SonyToo

Though, I did say games like Astro Bot and Stellar Blade wouldn't be the major hits many on Gaf thought they'd be, for example.

Cant think of anything stupider than making a First Person stealth heavy Indy game... the studio seems competent enough, so brainstorm better next time holy fuck.

And yet the game turned out very solid with an excellent critic consensus and brings something different to the table other than just the uncharted clone some of you wanted.

This is partly my fault. I thought I would buy Indy but I could not bring myself to spend money on the game when the time came. I don't even like Uncharted they are so fucking boring to me, but I did like the Tomb Raider reboots.

There are just too many other games that are not flights of fancy that I would enjoy much more. I thought I wanted this but when it came time to spend the money I realized I had no desire to play it. I buy a lot of games so I'm not sure why this one didn't appeal to me more. Currently the game is expensive as fuck and it's just a no from me at this price. By the time it is cheap enough I will no longer want to play and I think I'm not alone. I do agree with some who say perhaps their next game could be something else besides 1st person indiana jones....I'm not entirely against indiana jones but it just doesn't have the appeal to me a Lara Croft or even another boring ass Nate Drake would.

I'd love a new Riddick game for example.

Hope indie IP isn't as expensive as marvel, and their next game should be quake reboot.
I'd be surprised if it is significantly cheaper.

As we learned from Insomniac leak, it wasn't just a fixed price they charged. It was a % share, which I reckon will be more or less the same.

That's sad, because the game has done more good to the IP than the last few movies. Unless I am the only person I know that didn't enjoy them much.
