Square Enix games on DS and PSP?

What titles have been confirmed in development for the two?

I want my Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG and the rest on the FF's on DS damn it!

Also, why is Squenix hush hush on PSP titles? I'm sure they're cooking up stuff.

Square's PSP efforts are FFVII: Advent Children (fuh fuh) and of course Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, which is an action RPG. Supposedly they have more projects they have not yet revealed.

Square's DS efforts have, however, been announced and they are:

Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest (Action/RPG)
Secret of Mana DS (Action/RPG)
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles DS
Egg Monster Heroes
New Dragon Quest Monsters Game
Final Fantasy III

And there's one or two I'm missing...

Dear huzkee,

Thank you for your question. Currently Square-Enix has plans for Dragon Quest Monsters, Dragon Warrior: Slime Mori Mori, Egg Monster Hero,Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles DS, Mana Sequel, and Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis for NintendoDS. For the PSP platform, Final Fantasy VII:Crisis Core, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (UMD movie).

Respectfully,

google search engine.

Thanks guys :). I find it odd that there's only 2 offerings (1 game and a movie) announced for the PSP. Could they be holding off an announcement for the forthcoming future? I would think sony wants square/enix fully involved in PSP at this point even at an announcement level.

No, this way they can wait until DS fans are happy with some pending Square release and they could then go and say "Oh yeah, we're doing a full FFVII Director's Cut remake on the PSP complete with Tifa nudity".

Then they'll release the international version that has 3 more seconds of FMV, and everyone will be back to bitching about the franchise and SE screwing fans over.

It's not odd if you look at the offerings. FFVII Crisis Core is going to be a new game and very likely a big budget one. With the release being in 2006, this means Square Enix intends on working on it for some time, plus it has the FFVII name (which sadly at this point no longer means much but still). On the other hand, for the DS they have the same type of stuff they were releasing for the GBA, remakes/ports/spinoffs/shovelware. Not that none of these games will be good but they'll just be smaller scale and cheaper projects, while Square Enix obviously feels they need more time and more dedicated teams working on PSP titles since the amount of work for a solid title would require the same amount of money and time as it would on the PS2. It's just a matter of different mindsets for the different consumer markets on both handhelds at the moment.

I'm really looking forward to getting a chance to play Final Fantasy III. I know many people who love it over VI, VII, and X. Haven't played any Dragon Warrior Monsters games, so I probably won't check 'em out, but a friend of mine was hooked on them for months at a time.

I want to know what FFVII:CC is, but I'm getting real sick of their FFVII milking. In just one year they've managed to announce 4 spin-offs. They had 7-8 years to bring them out over time, remake the game on the PS2 with voice acting, and updated graphics, or pull out a full playable sequel. Instead we're getting a movie, a freakin' phone game, a game devoted to an optional character, and an action RPG on a $200 handheld. That is fucking ridiculous, and I love FFVII. [/rant]

If i was a betting man i'd guess the largest production game we'll see on a handheld this generation will be somewhere in the area of FFX-2. A new game but nowhere near the production levels as the flagship titles. It would be foolish to try to build a new franchise on a handheld if you're going to put serious production money into it. Square's bread and butter afterall is eyecandy heh. That's why i honestly think the PSP will get the flagship title remakes (well anything from the PS1 gen. and up).

Edit:grammar

In addition to what's been mentioned, Matsuno confirmed he was working on a new DS RPG.... hopefully it's a new Ogre SRPG.

When did he say that? There hasn't been any word from Matsuno since E3, his entire team is knee-deep in FFXII. Was this something recent? Or was it ancient and just overlooked?

I'm pretty sure it was just an idea for the future, not actual confirmation of the title. Could be wrong, though.

Ok, where the hell did you guys hear about the secret of mana sequel?

It was on an official Nintendo list and before that Square Enix showed 2 (?) artworks of a new Seiken Densetsu on their page. But it wont be a "Secret of Mana sequel", just a new part in the series people are referring to as Secret of Mana.

He said it at E3 actually. It was mentioned in EGM even iirc (along with Iga confirming Castlevania DS).

Seiken Densetsu was concieved as a trilogy... either it'll be a remake like Sword of Mana or a "gaiden" spinoff outside the main storyline like Legend of Mana. They said "New Work" but I'm sort of hoping for a Secret of Mana remake.

It will be interesting to see how much effort developers put behind original DS or PSP games. I wonder how many copies they would have to sell to be profitable? The majority of GBA games do not sell six figures, but then again they probably only had a handful of developers actually working on them. Can Sony find their Pokemon/Tetris on PSP?
