Square Enix shares PAX Prime 2015 plans, includes new ATR

Seems like everyone agrees 100%, they probably shouldn't even have pushed Duscae 2.0.

Everyone who? Kagari is being hyperbolic as always when she talks about this game. They fucked up the Gamescom ATR, other than that the game got plenty of coverage from every sites and Duscae was well received when it was released. Now they just need to drop a great trailer with a release date, which we know it's not happening at PAX, but probably at TGS.

I don't see what's wrong with SE using the currently most stable playable build of XV for various conventions to attract people not interested in FF. Other devs reuse their playable builds all the time throughout the year. Only difference here is fans who really wanted to play it have already done so and are tired of it, which is why they should have just skipped the PAX ATR and focus on a big blowout of new info and content at TGS or Paris.

Yeah, why would they not show the same exact vertical slice for one year straight that anyone interested can already play with nothing new to it?

I mean, of course there are still dozens of thousands of potential consumers who haven't seen the demo yet, and they all go to dedicated gaming conventions.

Whoever came up with the idea of launching Duscae was a genius, because it really is a waste of effort to show other areas of your game to the public, specially for a game of a company that has been so on point with the development schedule of their games.

Also, being the only stable playable build of XV when your game is supposed to be massive and coming out within the next year is nothing but bad news.

It's not about attracting people who are already interested, it's about getting new people interested. Those gamers aren't likely to buy Type-0 or go online to buy a demo code for $20.

Negative nancy much? :P Yeah, they definitely shouldn't have released Duscae, that way people can keep complaining about how the game is coming out within a year and no one can even play it yet.

Showfloor builds are always usually the same demo at different conventions, with devs showing videos of new areas instead of making them playable to the public. There's nothing worrying about Duscae being the most stable build, it just came out 5 months ago and got an update 2 months ago. SE have already shown they have playable builds of other areas, it's just not optimized for public experience, like with many unreleased games.

Agreed on both points. Duscae 2.0 is fine for these events, since it's targeted to people who haven't played it yet. Of course we fans have played it to death, but we're not the whole world.

There is the second demo coming anyway, no need to waste time for an "in between" build that would have mostly all the same features as Duscae 2.0.

I agree with that Kagari's post 100%.

It looked to me that in the Gamescom thread most people didn't want to hear Duscae anymore. And to me it doesn't look like people were particularly excited for the 2.0 update.

People must ve missed that in the gamescom ATR duscae was not part of it. Where s the problem though if that demo build is available to public on the show floor of different conventions?

Fans will be in for a treat as Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata will be taking the stage in North America for the first time at PAX Prime as part of the ongoing Active Time Reports. In addition to sharing a few personal stories about the development of the game, he will be sharing some insights into the recently revealed trailer. Join us on Saturday as we discuss one of the most highly anticipated games from Square Enix.

God I love the wording on this.

Of course no one wants to hear from Duscae. Doesn't mean that it isn't a playable demo from FFXV that can't be played at events, though.

There's no "haunting" going on right now. There's just nothing new to talk about. We wouldn't even be worried about Duscae had they shown meaningful footage and information.

Why is Square leaving Gunslinger Stratos Reloaded in Japan? It could have Western appeal. It has "gun" right in the title.

Well at least they're setting appropriate expectations this time.

I wonder how interesting these "personal stories" are going to be.

I am afraid that after returning to Duscae today after a few months away that I am losing all interest in XV. This saddens me.

It's obviously not going to be that interesting of a ATR, but for those who still want to watch:

Duscae is a poisonous ghost haunting XV's marketing campaign.

Come now Kagari, it could always be worse.

It could be demoing Duscae 3.0.

I was considering going to this ATR event, but based on everyone's impressions here, I may just skip it.

It was that bad?

It was just kind of pointless. The most asinine part is they "took questions" but didn't actually answer a single goddamn one. They discussed technical limitations which made them sound inept, they showed new gameplay which was all of Noctis and co dying five seconds into a Malboro fight, and then they drank beer.

So on some level it was a masterful troll attempt, but they had used Gamescom as their scapegoat to not appear at the previous game convention, and had made remarks that Gamescom would kick off their launch advertising campaign, which it didn't. Compile this with the Dawn teaser which didn't have enough explosions for the non-FF crowd and you had the perfect storm.
