Chris we need updates, throw some concept arts, wallpapers, interviews. This thing need to get rolling.
CR: We're running as fast as we can! You're already getting daily updates, sometimes several in a day. And I'm trying to answer as many questions as possible.
Is no one giving us credit for actually SHOWING a working prototype? Sometimes I think I should have shown nothing and then everyone gets excited over a concept drawing. There's already more concept art and videos on this project than any other high profile crowd funded game!
I may sound like I'm bitching but its a little frustrating as it seems that everyone forgets just how much has already been shown. It takes time to do stuff at the quality that I want to achieve.
We are working on all the above. Please be patient.

What are the chances of you guys implementing various particle effects? Could there be gas clouds or solar storms that will bombard your ship with ions that - depending on your shield setup - could washout your comm system or interfere with other ship opperations? Maybe something like the Star Trek DS9 Badlands even?
CR: This is a big focus for me. I plan to have a specialist shader / graphics programmer to just focus on this kind of stuff.

and catching his cool back hehe

iMik - I appreciate it - I know you want Star Citizen to succeed as much as I do and just want the most ammo to show your friends, which is understandable... So excuse my mini rant!

but i am still waiting on the ship details/artworks .... anyone know how to access the denied parts of the RSI site with only a KS pledge? I registered there, but still not open. Or is it closed for everyone else too?

Maybe they actually should've saved some footage and info from the initial blast and portioned it out to maintain hype. He's completely right, but unfortunately people quickly forget how much they already have and want more.

People are asking for him to show more? Come on. The man has been going around showing off a working prototype. There are videos online of in-game footage. What do they want? A demo?

On a more positive note I love how the older among the gaming press are practically splooging about this after seeing it. Even for the really big Kickstarters like DFA and Eternity there have been grumblings and concerns. This game is getting more ass than Wilt Chamberlain.

Who would have thought that in 20 fucking 12 we'd be looking forward to such games? I'd half resigned that I'd never see any of these genres get the royal treatment again. Now if someone could get Larry Holland to do a TIE Fighter successor and I would die a happy man. Because as much as I loved WC, TIE Fighter is always at or near the top of my favorite games of all time.

Nice to see so many planned munitions outside of just lasers. Lasers are cool and all, but space gatling cannons are where it's at.

Great. I can look like a righteous space-cock with my 300i, the BMW of SC.

damn!

I'm torn between going crazy because just seeing such an ambitious title in development is incredibly exciting and being scared/cautious because this all honestly reads too good to be true.

I'm a bit late, but jesus...wonder who is investing those sums into a space sim, or is it Chris himself who is putting a ton of his own money into this?

I suspect some guy with the last name garriott is involved in some of that funding...

Also, apparently Chris has invested a vast amount of his remaining wealth into it.

Cmon Chris. You can tame the wyld stallion that is Derek Smart. :lol Bring him and his Battlecruiser ideas aboard.

It would be bad assed if they could bring in an orbital planetary environment and a planetside one as well. Might be too much to ask for. Looks amazing though.

I have a feeling Chris put a lot of his own money up front to get the concept and the initial part of the game up to the pitch complete.

Now that he has something great to show, he can open it up for outside investing.

About to hit the $2 million mark total, only about $24,000 to go.

Hello everyone!

Less than two weeks ago, I reached out to the gaming community to help me prove that the PC game wasn’t dead. That there was still an audience for the kind of games I created with Wing Commander and Freelancer. To prove that Space Combat wasn’t finished as a genre

I hoped that the answer would be yes, that the demand would be there and that it would come together in a way that would ultimately let me build the world I have been dreaming about for many years.

What I didn’t expect was how quickly it all happened.

Last night, just four and half days after our Kickstarter campaign launched, we passed the $500,000 mark, making it successfully funded, and another Kickstarter success story.

As I write this we are less than $50,000 from reaching the RSI goal of $2 million in overall pledges that makes Star Citizen a “go”. It’s unbelievable.

I’m proud to represent this cause and I’m tremendously humbled by the incredible community that has rallied to my side. Not just the donations–which have been astounding –but also the stories and the creativity I’ve encountered interacting with you in the comments and on the message boards and elsewhere. Like me, you have all seen Star Citizen, no matter what you may have called it, in your head for many years… and thanks to your collected efforts; I’m going to build it for you.

I have two pieces of information to share with you tonight. The first is the long-awaited design document about Star Citizens five pledge ships. Time and time again you’ve asked what an Aurora or a Hornet or a Constellation is. I’m happy now to be able to share our design concepts. These are the specifications we’re building on as we create the game world and they’re the descriptions I have sent to the artists who are putting together the ship models. Normally you wouldn’t see this kind of inside information, especially not this early, but I hope you will find it interesting and get a kick out of getting an insider’s view of how game development works.

The second piece of news is the news that you can finally upgrade your pledges at RobertsSpaceIndustries.com. If you’ve decided you would like to upgrade to a higher tier of ship or if you would like to increase your support for the project for any other reason, you now have that option. In addition we have heard you loud and clear on the Forums, on Kickstarter, Facebook and on the recent poll. You want the ability to add additional ships to your base package. So we’ve given you that option too. I hope you’ll enjoy seeing our plans for these ships and then choosing the one that best fits how you want to play the game.

Tomorrow, we’re going to be adding additional information about stretch goals… more specific levels and in-game rewards that you can achieve. In the near future we will have the upgraded forums online and we will start opening additional content at the RSI website. There’s a lot to look forward to!

So, pilots: we’ve won our first furball! But, there’s plenty more work to do. Let’s knock out the $2M in overall pledges that green lights Star Citizen, then set our sights on the stretch goals. The more of these we can hit, the richer and more varied the game I can deliver. We’re less than half way through the campaign, so I know we can go much further. If you’ve already backed, spread the word. If you’re still waiting to, then please join the cause.

Thank you, truly, for your unbelievable support. We have $45,840 to go! We can get there by MORNING!

I wonder whats hiding under that 6 mil stretch? I don't think we'll get there based on the current pace but I have a feeling its planetary decent since he says its a possible add on in the future

Only $10,713 to go. At this rate, it should reach 2m in a few hours, unless some big spender suddenly puts them over the top.

EDIT: Now they only need $1212 to reach 2m.

Pretty confident this whole venture will reach over 3 mill eventually. 4 mill not so much, unless they really drive the whole thing home with a very strong and continuous stream of information and excitement.

Shame it won't hit 5 mill, which is the threshold level for 'privateer style gameplay'... But it's less painful knowing that's within the eventual scope of the game anyway.

That is so true. He's making the kind of game space sim geeks have been daydreaming about for years. I miss this kind of ambition in PC gaming.

I know some people scoff at the remark that PC gaming ever died but in a way it did. All we ever get most of the time now are safe bet console ports. Roberts is bringing back everything that made PC gaming so good and exciting once.

As we are trending right now, it looks like star citizen will get to over the 4 million dollar mark between the two sites.

$5 million could be possible. If you look at past projects l, wasteland 2, project eternity, double fine adventure, they all had a massive boost the last 72 hours, and a ridiculous number on the last day. Really they get a huge bump in the last 6 or 7 days.

These kind of things are tough to predict mathematically, but they are there.

Project eternity earned 1.2 million its last 3 days, double fine earned about $650,000, and wasteland 2 raised $400,000.

I really wish they would optimize their website, or move it to another platform if possible. I love reading all of the geeky stuff in the columns and forums, but man is it frustrating to use, at least in Chrome.

The fact that they can churn this out so quickly and with such detail just makes me get even more excited. This game is way past dream stage. I hope Chris can pull this off, it looks so good!

This, this game seems like a dream come true for me. Lets hope the game stays true to that design document.

I don't really see any either outside of some weird moral objection to them essentially asking for more money. I say let those stretch goals ride!

That 6+Mil one sounds amazing.

Indeed! I like them all, actually, although one should've been "Mark Hamill does voice acting!" :) Don't see anything wrong with them extending the deadline. At all. More people will be able to pledge for goods that probably won't be available once the campaign is over.

That design document is just fantastic. I love how Roberts Space Industries (RSI) is an actual ship manufacturer in the game, haha.

This guy has to be out of his mind with these ~$6M stretch goals. It'll do well but let's not get crazy.

I just hope that most of the stuff listed in the goals shows up in the game at some point.

I want one of those 300i ships just to have something from Origin. This almost makes up for EA eating their soul.

I've already upgraded mine and am debating whether I do again. I probably will. It's the only game out of the 4 I've backed that has seriously made me want to drop a lot of cash on it.

If I were more wealthy, I'd spring for a lot more. If I were a millionaire I'd consider investing in the project more seriously if he was open to that. Just as a gamer with a bunch of cash wanting to see awesome shit happen.

Dammit, it's all amazing. Six million is so far away...

The only thing I would contest with is you don't need 50 single player missions. Its very difficult to make that many single player missions that are compelling and keep the players attention.

Much better to turn those development resources into fleshing out the persistent universe.

You're not wrong, however ...

Will the SP have a linear or branching storyline? CR: Branching. Squadron 42 is how I would make a new WC for today’s tech. Its going to be more towards WC1 and less towards the linear aspects of WC3 & 4, as its easier to have multiple paths / options when you’re rendering things real time rather than shooting a bunch of FMV

If you take branching into account, that number may be a bit deceiving, meaning that some of the missions would probably be tweaked versions to accomodate slightly different story paths.

There's stretch goals on the Kickstarter now. But I feel like Roberts has gravely misunderstood the purpose and power of stretch goals. It seems the goals are things along the lines of "X amount gets players random in-game bonus/X more starting credits/etc" when it should be "X amount adds this minor yet cool feature/another class of ships/etc".

Do people really give a shit if they start out with X amount of credits, random in-game item Y or whatever, especially when at this stage nobody really knows yet what it all means for the gameplay anyway?

Well, the idea is that everything will be added to the game eventually and that more money during the crowd funding phase will decrease the time required to build the game, so bonuses like that make sense.

I still think this plan is insane and a lot can go wrong when we're dealing with such huge amounts of money from unknown investors. I'm not talking about anything insidious but I expect the "final" game to be significantly scaled down compared to the original pitch. That won't stop me from pledging way too much though. All I want is a new single-player space sim. The persistent world is just a bonus!
