Star Fox Assault...Pokemon Box is better than this

What went wrong? From playing SF64 over and over and over again and memorizing every single audio clip in the game to a game that plays like crap, horribly dialogue, bad voice acting, bad story, horrible gameplay, and not enough flight based missions....Nintendo why didn't you develop this?

i really dont understand the hate for this game.

ive played the demo several times and the flying scenes were fun.

the on foot area i found to be even more fun than the flying stuff. id love to play a multiplayer game in this style.

SFAssault is good for what it is. It's not StarFox 64, but it's not bad either.

Sp0rks: SFAssault multiplayer is fucking awesome. It's supposed to be what Namco focused on and so at least they delivered in that aspect :D

if you want to blame anybody, but leave Namco alone, blame Rare. Because SF Adventures sold so well, it was thought that people like Star Fox on foot action and more was put in as a result. This=bad, and it's all Rares fault. But then it's Nintendo, and everything is back to bad again. So no matter how you look at it, Anything where you weren't on foot kicked ass, and if you were it was medicore to ok. Not bad still, just not SF64 quality.

[edit: just to make it clear to everyone, my sarcams tags weren't operating correctly, so instead i had to type normally]

No way was the voice acting bad. It was possibly better than the original. The story also sort of made sense of the crap from Rare's game
and would have been decent if Peppy and General Pepper didn't cheat death in the end.
Putting Krystal in the team was a good idea. I had a lot of fun with the on-foot missions except for the last one, and moving between vehicles is great, especially in the awesome multiplayer. The single player may not match up to Starfox 64, but it's worth owning for the multiplayer and worth playing to unlock multiplayer stuff.

Star Fox needs this on foot shit expelled. I mean has anybody, ever, ever, ever enjoyed that part of Star Fox?

Flying missoons = great

Foot missons = sad

At least it was variety, but it just tried too hard sometimes, and didn't try at all most of the time.

Starfox is one of those Nintendo IPs that should enjoy a rest for a generation or two. They need to wake up Pilotwings and Kid Icarus from their long naps, and suit them up for the upcoming generation.

Too bad it won't be receiving one, over 400k+ units have been sold in JPN/NA thus far, & its still "selling." This is w/out hard UK or EU numbers, so we can only hope EAD takes the reigns again next-generation. Online should be assured, & SFA's multi was a riot. And turok, let's not over-exaggerate with the Pokemon-Box comparisons. :lol

To be fair, that's also Nintendo's fault as that was a bad game that Nintendo changed into a bad Star Fox game. They forced Rare's hand on the franchise with Adventures.

I rented this and had a suprisingly good time with it. I enjoyed both the flying and on-foot missions. The on-foot sections had plenty of variety, controlled well, and were fun. I don't understand why so many people hate them. The game also has a fantastic soundtrack.

My main complaint is the framerate, actually. They bounce back and forth far too often. The flight scenes are a solid 60 fps, but everything else is straight 30 fps. Very jarring. The game is also rather short, which wasn't a problem for me (as I didn't actually purchase the game).

I don't really understand what makes SF64 so much better...

I would rather play on-rails flying stages, on-rails tank stages, and "all-range mode" flying stages. That being said, I enjoyed the game and think people are overreacting.

I can't figure out what happened. I mean, it's the Namco Ace Combat team.

Namco, this is unacceptable.

Yeah but it wasn't the air sections that were the problem, it was the godawful on foot parts...

I was debating about picking this up at the Gamerush Nintendo Sale starting today ($22.49 for Starfox Assault) but I remember the bad taste left in my mouth after finishing Starfox Adventures. How I so wanted to light that dinosaur sidekick on fire!! I should have lit myself on fire instead for playing on :lol

what...more about this sale?

my theory is that the Ace Combat team worked on the first mission, then let a bunch of interns finish the other 9 stages.

It's mind boggling how bad the rest of the game is compared to the great opening.

"Sealed" meaning like they shrink-wrapped used or returned games, or are these new?

Because, thats a damn good deal.
Do they have an online store? There isn't any of those stores anywhere near NY from what I've been able to determine.

New as in new :) It's a good deal, but on some of the games remember that they are normally full priced there as opposed to certain other stores (ie. Paper Mario). They don't have an online store.

I just started playing this and DAMN ITS THE WORST THING EVER. I didn't even like the first mission that much.

My favorite of favoritest parts is the horrible horrible pop up in the 3rd lvl I think it is, when you do the on foot/arwing jazz at the space station. I mean, you can lock on to things you can't fucking see. That's class.

This game is completey average. It's not as bad as Star Fox Adventures, but I was damn disappointing to be most on foot again. Rail shooter's are damn near extinct so I was hoping to get my fix with Assault.

Sorta OT, but I wonder if we'll ever get a Star Wars game in the vein of Star Fox this gen. The on-rails cinematic nature would fit it perfectly, and you'd feel like a hero. Maybe it's too late for that now, but after fiddling around with Lego Star Wars' EpIII shooter level, I'm pretty convinced that that's what the next serious Star Wars flight game needs to be.

On an even offer-note, after playing the movie licensed EpIII game, I can say without a doubt that it's one of the prettiest games I've seen this month. There. I said something nice about it.

I finished this. It wasn't as bad as it started out. Once I got the controls down, I really liked the on foot sections. To the point where they were my favorite part.

What I really didn't like was how they basically coppied every single boss from the previous games. That's just lame.

i thought adventures was more complete. i didnt even think of it as a starfox game. just a zelda "lite" clone. assault was just too all over the place for mine

I found Adventures to be a thoroughly broken and derivative Zelda clone. Assault, while flawed in some pretty dramatic ways, at least was a competent shooter in every regard. IMHO, of course.

How right you are. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks even the on rails flying portions of Assault sucked. One of my biggests gaming disapointments ever. O well, at least I have the snes and 64 version.

I didn't think Assault was that bad. I remember reading internet reviews and renting it expecting a piece of turd, but it had its moments (intriguing plot, pretty much follows up Adventures), and the foot missions weren't nearly as terrible as I expected them to be, though the game could've used more flying missions, of course.

PS: I thought Adventures was great. I guess it was easier for me to enjoy Assault then.

I think it's a measure of how bad the game is that Adventures is probably a better game. But really, I think people just wanted a next gen take on SF64 and who can blame them.
