On one hand, I'm glad tri-Ace is getting to do a new Star Ocean but on the other, it doesn't look like they've improved much recently. Here's hoping they can improve the technical aspects some and they hired a good writer to help pen the story of the game.

Whoa I didn't expect this at all, I thought the franchise was done after 5. I'm not too sure about the flying but will remain cautiously optimistic.

The world looks more empty than Xenoblade and the combat looked very uninspired. When I saw the Tri-Ace logo pop on screen I was like "Ohh wow I haven't seen them for awhile" and after that trailer I kinda wish they went back into the shadows and just quietly made HD versions of their older stuff.

looks like xenoblade, especially the fugly character models. But could be great or could be trash like the last one. MAKE STAR OCEAN GREAT AGAIN.

I definitely give this game a try because even in SO4 the combat was pretty fun but god damn Tri Ace is not good at making 3D character models for their HD games.

Their 2D art version of the characters looks pretty good but their 3D models looks like hyper realistic dolls.

2022 huh? Just enough time for me to write a 10/10 user review on GameFAQs about how it's the greatest thing ever made.

This trailer filled with random anime bullshit dialog is lacking in the CHAOS department, though. 6/10 it is.

MY BODY IS READY!!

I liked everything I saw in that trailer. Everything.
I can't wait to play it. Loving the jrpg out outlook lately..

Wow, Playstation exclusive! Sony doesn't even do that anymore.

And yeah, looks like Sony probably said "Hey, tri-Ace, Square-Enix, make us Xenoblade since Nintendo has one".

Tri-Ace are so far behind the times that they're actually behind where they were a decade ago:

I remembered this as well. This looks so much more inspired, I wish they'd at least offer alternate character models. Some devs don't seem to understand how artstyle can force a franchise with potential into being a niche.

Doesn't look too great.
Also, Is it the same dozen voice actors voicing all these JRPGs nowadays? They need fresh blood.

The fact that the ydecided to ressurect this franchise made the highlight of the show for me.
Last game was in 2016 and the one before that was in 2009. 5-7 years between games seems to be standard for this series.

Did it always have real time combat though? Never took time to play any, but always thought it was turn based for some reason.

Lot more details:
Star Ocean: The Divine Force is developed by Square Enix and tri-Ace, and set to release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022. The game features a story that blends sci-fi and fantasy, a rich lineup of characters and side stories, a battle system delivering exhilarating combat with easy controls, and more.

Star Ocean: The Divine Force Features:

  • A story that changes based on the choices made, where heroes intersect between the two worlds of sci-fi and fantasy.
  • A rich lineup of playable characters.
  • Freedom to fly around the environment.
  • Three-dimensional traversal and exploration where everything in-sight is a field for adventure.
  • The Star Ocean game with the fastest and mightiest action in the series.
  • Protagonists from two different civilizations collide.
The "Double Hero" system returns in which the story spanning the stars and beyond will unfold from the perspective of each protagonist, one from an advanced civilization (sci-fi) and the other from an underdeveloped planet (fantasy). Events that unfold throughout the story as well as the ally characters you end up with will differ based on the protagonist the player chooses.

In this game, there is range of playable characters in addition to the two protagonists, and you can control each of the party members.

Freely Fly Around the Environment

In this game, characters have the freedom to move around 360 degrees, and can even fly through the skies.

Players can fly in the sky and traverse three-dimensionally through one of the largest fields ever in the series.

Whether they explore by hopping around rocky stretches and rooftops, or seamlessly enter battles after jumping off cliffs, more than ever, the game will allow players greater freedom in their approach in both battles and their adventures.

The Fastest and Mightiest Action in the Series

Battles have also evolved in Star Ocean: The Divine Force. Characters can make an assault straight from traversing at incredibly high speeds, disappear instantly before an enemy, or even defeat a horde of enemies with a skill that enables on-shot kills. Experience tough yet exhilarating battles while freely flying around the world.

How does this game not look like it could've been made for the PS4?

Edit- lol

It's always had action combat but it transitioned into a battle screen for it typically. Star Ocean 5 changed that and did away with the transitions but it was still the limited area for combat. This looks a lot more like an action RPG with heavier emphasis on action than anything.

As a fan of Star Ocean as a series, this looked fucking AWFUL. Why are the character models so far backwards from 5? Why are they both backwards from the cash grab mobile game? Inexcusable IMO. Looks like a PS1 CG cutscene (that's not a compliment).

The open world looks worse than Xenoblade Chronicles X, a WiiU game.

The battle system looks interesting at least, but holy shit at people agreeing on revealing this as a product that you should want to buy. Horrendous.

I love Star Ocean and I can't wait to pick this up for $5 on a Steam sale. Because that's the only way I'm collecting this trashy looking game.
