Star Ocean 4 is one of my favorite RPG's of all time (I've beaten it on x360, ps3, and PC) and I skipped SO5 even on sale at $12.
I'm not sure I like the design of the main character so far but all I want is:

1. Explore multiple planets
2. give us proper cutscenes throughout the game
3. I heard about the "protect this character" missions from SO5 - none of those please
4. At least a decent soundtrack (especially the battle theme). Remix music from previous games if you have to.
5. bonus dungeon with gabriel celeste and ethereal queen
6. Sidequests that aren't merely fetch quests
7. A decent story (I'm not hard to please here)

Wish they would have stuck to the concept art. The in game assets look like hot garbage.

Worst looking protagonist yet. Also, can they just retcon till the end of times ending ? As it stands I can't get at all invested in this franchise anymore because there are literally no stakes at play.

That ending destroyed any future installments ever mattering. This is coming from someone who has star ocean the second story in his top 10 games ever made.

I'm an idiot so if it comes to pc later on I'll play it.

That wasn't a "PC master race" comment. That was a comment about how crappy this game looks, and nothing more. It looks like late PS3-era graphics. I will happily call them out for it, not because I love to criticize, but because I know they're capable of doing better. I've owned almost every Playstation console (only missing the PSTV) and this game is two generations behind, graphically speaking. Maybe they'll improve it prior to launch. I certainly hope so.

I'm fine with lower budget looking games as long as the world is fleshed out.

SO4's budget went to the world development and the characters were mostly shite.

SO5's budget went to the graphics and you can see how small the world is (this is the only SO game where there's no interplanetary travel and all the space battles were relegated to shots inside the ship).

They spent way too long showing that stupid jet pack gimic off. Kinda made the world look boring because you can bypass stuff with it.

I used to be such a Tri-Ace fanboy, but man. I don't think I want this. I want HD Remasters of Valkyrie Profile 1 and 2 and Radiata Stories. This just looks like more Star Ocean 5, which is not what the world needs.

I love some Tri-Ace games and some can piss me off. Star Ocean The Last Hope was decent until the very end where it really pissed me off and I had to quit and youtube the ending. Glutton for punishment, I picked up Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness, and felt it was pretty decent. I will give this one a try for sure.

Still hoping for a new Resonance of Fate game.

You need really low expectation if you see anything not being low average in this trailer
Tales is not that great especially technically (imo) but still raised expectation for me for a AA budget game in 2022

Because the previous one was terrible, the one before that was bad too and the little we've seen from this one also looks pretty bad?.

Based on the past like 15 years of this dev the absolute best case scenario for this game is that the combat will be pretty good but the visuals, characters and story will be terrible

4 was terrible, 5 was okay. 5 gets too much hate, it was perfectly enjoyable and inoffensive. Was just way loe on ambition.

4 however, had a story and voice acting so horrendous it scarred me forever.

I definitely give this game a try because even in SO4 the combat was pretty fun but god damn Tri Ace is not good at making 3D character models for their HD games.

Their 2D art version of the characters looks pretty good but their 3D models looks like hyper realistic dolls.

That's what I was thinking. The characters have no facial expressions and it ends up looking like Thunderbolt Fantasy.

They need to get a better character artist for their franchise. Look how much of an impact great character art/design had for Tales Of Arise. That game is the fastest selling in the series. For JRPG's just like manga/anime the art/design is very important.
